How do I export a keynote slide to pdf with a transparent background?

I use Keynote for creating figures for a report I'm currently writing and layouting in Adobe InDesign.
Unfortunately I have run in to a quite annoying problem.
Because of the page-layout and background graphics in my main report, I need to be able to export the figures without the white background which comes as standard. I tried to remove the background in "Master & layout" (my Keynote is in Danish, not sure if it's called the same in English), which is suggested to bring background transparency when exporting to Quicktime movies. I doesn't seem to have any effect when exporting to pdf though.
When importing the pdf's into InDesign the figures comes up with a white background instead of the wanted transparent.
My choice of pdf over png is because of the vector graphics.
Is it possible to export to pdf's with a transparent background?

One option would be to export the slides as image files and bring them in Pages in that format.

  • Has anyone ever exported a Keynote to a PDF and noticed that some characters were missing?

I've recently exported a Keynote to a PDF to make it readable for Windows. The problem was that I noticed some characters were missing (the word AÇÕES was written AÇ ES). My main problem, actually, was with the "ã" and "õ", mainly while using the fonte ANTENNA (the whole family).
I've then noticed that, in one single slide, I've used, by mistake, the font GILL SANS on a title. I then substituted the font for ANTENNA. Guess what... Problem solved!
Has it ever happened to anyone? Is there any logical explanation for that?!

    I have the same problem.
    Using Keynote 6.1
    OSX 10.9.2
    To reproduce the problem:
    Make a blank presentation.
Make a table (love the new table inteface btw ).
    In a table cell, write E = mc2, where 2 is a super script.
Export to PDF. The superscript is gone. Same for subscripts.
Seems as all text after the subscript or superscirpt in a cell is missing.
Twice now, I have had to convert my presentation to PowerPoint as table headers have been mangled due to this isuee...

how do I export only part of a pdf?

    Hi eannablack,
The only way to export part of a PDF is to remove the pages that you want to export. And to do that, you need Acrobat. You are welcome to try Acrobat for free for 30 days. For more information, see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • Once made a selection in photoshop how do you export in Illustrator and use it with a cutting plotte

once made a selection in photoshop how do you export in Illustrator and use it with a cutting plotter?

Plotters require continuous paths. Convert the selection to a path and clean it up suitably. Copy&paste it to Illustrator and use it as a clipping mask on your artwork or whatever. You may also need to create a duplicate layer/ separate PDF file file. Talk to the people doing the plotting.

  • How do I import animated gifs into Premiere with a transparent background?

I have an animated gif that I got from the internet, and I'm trying to import it into Premiere Pro with a transparent background. The gif is of a video game character standing still and blinking. Whenever I import it, it always has a white background, so I need help on how to change that.
I've gone into Photoshop and removed the white background frame by frame, making it transparent. I do this by using the magic wand tool to select the white background, then hit "delete" to turn it into that diamond grid, which means it's transparent. I then select File -> Save for Web. I preview every frame, and it shows that the backgrounds are transparent. I save it as a gif. But when I import it into Premiere Pro, the white background is still there.
I've read many forums online about people trying to import images into Premiere Pro with a transparent background, but none of them have explained how to do it specifically for animated gifs. Every answer has always been "export the image as a png, that'll work", and sure enough, I exported a few frames of the gif as pngs, and those few frames had transparent backgrounds in Premiere Pro. But I don't want a png because those aren't animated sequences, those can only be still images. I need to export it as a gif so that it will remain animated, but gif files always have that dreaded white background in Premiere Pro.
I suppose I could export every frame as a png, import each of those frames into Premiere Pro, then string all the frames together and tweak them so they'll be functionally identical to the animated gif, but that would take forever. I'm making a video project and I need numerous animated gifs to work with, so I don't want to do that with every single one of them. I'm looking for a way to simply import the gifs into Premiere Pro and be done with it. If there is any way to do this, please help me.

faind on gif transparency and other cartoon animation problems : Adobe After Effects
" The reason: GIFs don't support alpha channels. Instead, their file structure assigns a certain color value to be read as totally transparent. There aren't any degrees of transparency as you find in graphics formats that do support alpha channels.
To use an animated gif in AE, you'd first have to create the areas of transparency, then convert the series of images into a graphics format that supports alpha channels, and there are a bunch: PICT, TIFF, TARGA or PNG, to name a few."

  • Exporting to PDF with Vector/Transparency issues? (huge file)

    Hi folks
I have a 36 page magazine in Indesign which has a lot of illustrator images placed in, some of which have transparency applied.  The images are xmas icons and there are 10 or so on each illustrator file so there are only 3/4 illustrator files placed but they are done many times over within the Indesign file.
When I export to PDF the file size is huge.  154mb.  I am sure it is to do with the vectors/transparency, but dont know how to correct this to bring the PDF file size down.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

To echo Peter's response, 154 MB for a 36 page magazine is not necessarily all that large, especially if the content is graphically rich.
There is some information you are not providing us. For example, how are you bringing in the Illustrator artwork? And with what settings are you exporting PDF?
In the first case, the most efficient way to bring Illustrator content into InDesign is to save the Illustrator artwork as PDF/X-4 and place the resultant file into InDesign. InDesign is more likely to reuse the content for PDF export if the content is placed in that manner.
In the second case, content with transparency can yield very bloated PDF if you export PDF with flattened transparency such as you would get with the PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-3 export settings from InDesign (or for the Illustrator-based imported content, PDF saved from Illustrator with such settings). Again, we recommend PDF/X-4 for PDF export maintaining live transparency and original color spaces with ICC profiles and avoiding the bloat caused by transparency flattening and conversion of RGB to CMYK.

  • How to save a clip with a transparent background?

How do i save a clip with a transparent background to export to quicktime and then be able to import it back into my timeline and have it be able to overlay ontop of another clip? Transparent clip is for lower third

For transparency to work, you need to save it in a format that has an alpha channel. Not sure if FCE supports the Animation codec but if it does you'll want your material as "millions of colors +". The "+" means Alpha.

  • How can I export a graphic slide with a quicktime movie from Keynote?

I export a title slide with a quicktime movie from Keynote to my desktop and it plays fine with audio. Once I insert or drag the clip into iWeb the resolution is degraded and very choppy. The resolution is 320x200 and I'm exporting from Keynote as a custom size (320x200) Frame rate: 29.97 Key Frames: Automatic Key Reordering is checked Data Rate: Automatic Quality: Multi pass. I need some help.

how large is the video and if you publish - does it still have the same horrible quality?
you might considering exporting as flash (loads faster) and integrating that into your iweb site using post-editing: http://karreth.com/index.php/articles/iframes-iweb/

  • Problem exporting a Keynote slide show with music to iDVD

    HI
I've produced 8 end of show conference photo shows using keynote, set to music, from iTunes.
The problem I got when I exported them to DVD was that the sound file did not burn with the DVD.
I exported each file as a self running Quicktime file, with include Audio checked, at file size large. I removed the slide duration and build duration, just left these blank, and it appeared to run at the correct rate, just no sound...
The movie file and sound file appear as two separate files, iDVD will not let me include the audio file, although the help notes said you can discard this file.
I also tried going into Custom, and checking mix audio, instead of copy Audio, but it was the same result.
Any advice welcome, happy to upgrade Keynote if this helps.

OK I bought Quicktime Pro, but I still can't get this to work!
This was the suggestion from the other thread that Brian Peat made:
"It's a limitation of the export from Keynote. You might try opening the QT movie that Keynote created when you exported in QuickTime Pro and "adding" the sound track back into the movie file."
*Can anyone tell me how to do this*
    Brian again....
"I just did a test, export to iDVD and then quit iDVD. I then opened the QT movie that Keynote exports for use in iDVD and use the Add to movie function to add a sound file to the movie. I saved it and opened iDVD again. It asked me if I wanted to refresh my assests and then opened fine. And the audio WORKS.
Now, this only works for videos you want to be self playing, mostly because if you hit forward your music will skip, but it won't STOP you from skipping it if you want to. Seems to me this might be worth the $29 for QT Pro."
*I still can't see how this was done*
If anyone knows Brian can they point him at this post please?

  • How can I export a keynote proyect to a movie?

I am making an assigment for the university and I don't know how to export a keynote presentation to a movie, ( with short videos and narration inside of it ).
I tried quicktime export and it didin't work , the whole timing thing was awful!
I really need this presentation to be exported into a DVD or a CD or anything so I can give it to my guide teacher...
    Help me please
PS: I am using a MacBook Pro to make this

This is a well known problem with Keynote 6.1, the only thing you can do is use Keynote 5.3 instead, if you have it.
Meanwhile sit back and wait to see if Apple issues a fix in the schedule of updates they said they would issue during 2014.
