How do I export entire music library including playlist, play count, song rating, album artwork, etc...

I want to burn to DVD my entire music library, EXACTLY the way it is, including:
-Playcount
-Song ratings
-Playlists
-Album artwork
-Lyrics
Is this possible?
I know you can just copy the music folder onto the DVD, but will doing this automatically copy all of the above mentioned items also?

All the information you list above is contained in the library.itl file in the iTunes folder.  You can copy the whole iTunes folder to another drive (or DVD if it will all fit on one).
Backing up just the library.itl file, while handy, is not a guarantee of reconstructing your library should a drive failure occur.  The file needs to have the music files in a very specific order and location and it wouldn't be easy to reconstruct that using separate bits and pieces.
Most libraries these days will not fit on a single DVD, or even a few multiple ones.  Basically, backing up to DVD these days is impractical and you're much much better off getting an external hard drive.  It will be much faster and cheaper in the long run.

I would like to transfer my music library, including playlists, from my old iphone to my new iphone.

Connect the new phone to the computer and iTunes, then sync your library. I'm guessing that you have been syncing the old phone in the past, which would keep your library updated.

  • How can I export my music library if I can't upgrade my iTunes?

I have an ancient iMac running an ancient OS (10.4.11). I basically keep it cos I love the design and I spent literally weeks downloading all my CDs onto it back in the day. My iPod just got stolen so I want to put my music library on my iPhone 3GS. Trouble is I cannot update my iTunes on my iMac as the OS is too old and I can't even buy and run a new OS as the processor is ancient too, and incompatible.
I tried to find some more recent versions of iTunes online that I could run with the OS but they are also too old to sync with my phone.

  • How do I export the MUSIC in a playlist to a USB dongle?

    Hi There,
I have put more than 400 songs into a new playlist and I want to export this playlist (music content NOT just the play LIST) onto a USB dongle. I did this some time ago and can't remember how I did it. I can BURN to a disk, but I want this playlist onto a dongle. Any help would be grateful.
    Thanks
    Phacoman.

    Hello arrowepark,
Thank you for providing the details of what you are trying to accomplish.  To transfer a playlist, you will need to transfer the music and playlist file separately.
You can transfer your music by dragging the music to the USB drive, and next, you will have to take the additional step of exporting the playlist to the USB and importing your playlist to the alternate computer:
    Transferring playlists
If you want not only your content but also your playlists to exist on your new computer, you will want to transfer a copy of all your playlists from your old computer. To do this, choose File > Library > Export Library on your old computer. Save the XML file that is created to your desktop.
Send the playlists file to yourself as an e-mail attachment, use an external drive, or use file sharing to move the playlists file to your new computer. Once the file is on your new computer, open iTunes and choose File>Library> Import Playlist. The import process will remove any items from the playlists that you didn't share via Home Sharing.
You can find this in the section titled "Home Sharing" in the following article:

  • ITunes Match music not updating on iPhone 4 - all settings "correct", but all playlists and many songs, artists, albums, artwork missing

I'm having a maddening problem with iTunes Match on my iPhone 4. I have the following settings established on the phone:
Settings > iCloud > Account: properly logged in to the correct, main account
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup: On
Settings > Music > iTunes Match: On
Settings > Music > Show All Music: On
Settings > Store: Logged into the same correct, main account as above
Settings > Store > Automatic Downloads > Music: On
On my laptop - the computer I use to primarily manage my iTunes music collection - when I "Update iTunes Match", all but three songs are listed as "Matched", "Uploaded". or "Purchased", and I'm correctly told that "12,277 songs are now available in iCloud".
But over the past week or so, music has been disappearing from my iPhone 4. When I go under Music > Playlists, none of my Playlists are showing. When I go under Music > Songs, it only lists 240 of the 12,277 tracks that are supposedly available in iCloud. Only 126 of around 1300 artists are listed. I have meticulously collected/scanned album artwork for literally every song in my collection, but a ton of it is missing on even the few tracks that do show up on my iPhone, and on and on and on.
I've been trying switching settings on and off, logging out and back in, waiting minutes, hours, or even days between attempts, running a restore to previous backup for the whole phone, etc. But after days of frustration and time wasted - nothing. And the real kicker is that the whole music collection IS showing up just fine on my wife's iPhone 4 - it just won't work on mine, and it's mostly my music to begin with!
So why won't my music collection show up on my iPhone 4? What do I do to fix this? How is this worth the money I paid for the Match service?

Thanks to kirbyfromtrenton, I have tracked down at least a partial fix for this problem:
1 - Turn off iTunes match in iTunes.
2 - Turn off iTunes match on the iPhone.
3 - Close iTunes and reopen.
    4 - Connect your iPhone.
5 - Go into your music folder for the iPhone and delete all the songs.
6 - Turn back on iTunes match in iTunes
7 - Turn back on iTunes match on the iPhone
All of my music is available once again, although I'm still not seeing my playlists or artwork. That could be because I'm overseas right now with a slow wi-fi connection though.

  • The album artwork on my iTouch looks correct when I am scrolling through, but when I play a song the album artwork shows an incorrect image.  How do I fix this?

For example, when I am looking through my albums, the artwork is right.  When I click on an album and play a song, the album artwork is incorrect.  When I go to iTunes and try to look at the artwork, it is correct.  What do I do?

    A couple of other possibilities:
The CD is dirty / damaged / suffering from "CD Rot" - sometimes CDs may seem to play fine on a CD player (or using the CD-player function of a PC) but will not transfer correctly to a computer - this is the result of the way that CD players auto-correct the datastream from the CD where PCs, when reading the audio CD as data, do not.
Enabling the error correction function in iTunes import may alleviate if not fully resolve this
Use an alternate tool to extract the audio from the CD - Exact Audio Copy is probably the best out there, as it can be configured to attempt multiple reads of every audio sample on a CD to get a consistent result.  Then import the resulting files into iTunes.
You don't say whether this is specific to one CD as in the original poster's case, but the "crackling" symptom has affected a significant number of users of the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.0.71 - these are mostly addressed in the most recent update (12.1.1.4), but if nothing else works it may be worth trying this alternative installer: iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)

  • Backing up Playlist (Or the Entire Music Library) on a Second Hard Drive

I know there are many solutions for this subject online, but neither suits my needs. I have already read many tutorials on how to backup your entire music library using your ipod as a hard drive, but I have a different matter. I have all my music stored on my second hard drive (witch has a capacity 80 Gigabytes), the size of the music folder is about 49 Gigabytes; my ipod has a capacity of 30 Gigabytes, and my first drive (where Windows runs has a capacity of 20 Gigabytes.) On my current library I have all my playlists the way I like them. My problem is that I constantly need to re-install Windows for testing matters, so I would like to keep all my playlists, my ratings, and my play counts when I reinstall windows. I can not use my ipod as a hard drive, because all my music won’t fit. I have also read that it is necessary to have the option (Keep my Itunes music folder organized), but I am not able to do that also, because of the lack of space on my 1st hard drive. What would be my best option to backup my library?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dirk Breeuwer

    Dirk Breeuwer,
It sounds like you may have your songs stored on the external hard drive, and linked to the library on the internal hard drive. Is that correct?
You can move your iTunes Library folder to the external drive, and then tell iTunes to keep the library organized. This article discusses creating a different library, and how to switch between them. (This is a feature that was added as part of iTunes 7)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
The initial configuration of that option may take a while, but once setup would be the easiest way to accomplish keeping the library intact through reinstall of Windows with the songs stored on a second hard drive.
Personally I would try this if you have sufficient space on the second hard drive free for all the music:
    1. Copy the iTunes folder from My Documents to the external hard drive
    2. Hold down shift when launching iTunes as directed in the article above
    3. Select that iTunes folder on the external hard drive.
    4. If you music doesn't have !'s next to it when you try to play songs you know are on the external hard drive, then go to Advanced->Consolidate library.
    5. Consolidating library will copy all the songs into the iTunes folder on the external hard drive, as long as the links were not broke by copying the library to the external hard drive.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Move entire music library - music and artwork to another computer

I'd like to move my entire music library, including artwork to another mac. I am using iTunes 9 and Mac OXS 10.4.11.
Is there a tutorial for doing that?
    Thank you,
    TPK

    Jurgen:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I think I know now you can do that.
1 - copy the iPhoto Library folder intact into the MacBook's Pictures folder.
2 - move the container folder for the "source" files to Mobile 3. Try to keep the path names as consistent as possible except for the HD name.
3 - open the library on the MB and double click on a thumbnail. When the window comes us to find the source file do so.
That should re-link all of the files in the library or at least in that roll. The worst case scenario would be do to that once for each roll. If you have the file path identical to the old HD except for the HD's name it should work.
In the event you have to create a new library and start fresh (unlikely) or want to just make sure your source file as permanently associated with the keywords and comments you're assigned in iPhoto try Tutorial #1.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I accidentally deleted my entire music library and it's in the trash, how do I move it back?

I just deleted my entire music library and its in the trash, how do I move it back?

How did you delete it? Please provide more details to see what options you have available. Did you use iTunes by deleting the directory and confirming putting it in the trash or did you drag the actual  iTunes folder in the trash? If you dragged the folder the solution is easy, either right click on the folder and select Put Back or manually return the folder to the previous location.
Do you have a recent backup of the entire iTunes Music folder including the iTunes Library.itl file or just the iTunes Library.itl file?

    About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
    Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
    Windows 7: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
    Windows 8: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
