How do I export into a windows media file ?

I've been working on a project that requires both a quicktime and a windows media ( and /or real player) file to be made, so as to post on a website. I've got the quicktime file made, but what do I choose for a windows media file? - what options should I choose in export to make this happen?
I'm on FCP 5.1
and am using quicktime 7
thanks!

You need Flip4mac (the studio version ~$49US) to export windows media.
It does a great job.
good luck.

  • Exporting to a Windows Media File- best quality????

I imported a 15 -slide powerpoint (converted to jpeg) and added music, and Premiere transitions
The Premiere movie is about 3 minutes long.
I then needed to save (and burn to disks) as a Windows Media File.  A program that all of my 35 business offices would have easy access to and could play the Business movie that I have created.
When I playback, the first "slide" looks great, the music sounds great... but when it makes it first trnasition to slide 2, the face on the picutre is fuzzy for about 2-3 seconds then becomes real clear..... going to slide 3, same thing.... slide 4.... same thing.
so I went to the Advanced settings.  I have no clue what setting to change to make this fuzzy to clear part not happen.
CAN ANYONE give me a suggestion???????
    I have Premiere Elements 4.
    My settings show:
    Preset- Cable Modem DSL
    Codec WM video 9
    Encoding Passes "two"
    Bitrate:0 Variable Unconstrained
    1282x960
    Frame Rate : 60
    Pixel Aspect Square 1.0
    Decode Complexity  auto
    Keyframe Internal   5 seconds
    Buffer default
    Avg Bitrate  255

If you're intending to stream that WMV over the internet to your other offices,  that 1280x960 frame size is pretty unrealistic.
WMVs are optimized for internet streaming at 320x240 pixels. At 16 times that size, your file would likely not flow smoothly even if you could successfully create a file that size.
If you use the Cable preset at its default setting, you'll do much better.
Other factors determining the quality of your output are:
What project settings you're using for your Premiere Elements project
What resolution your photos are in the slideshow (You want them to be as close to the actual size they'll be in the slideshow as possible -- with an ideal size of about 1000x750 pixels)
Finally, JPEG outputs from PowerPoint don't make the best source files for Premiere Elements slideshows.

  • Word "Logo" Appears on Titles When Exporting as Windows Media File

Whenever exporting as a windows media file, the title pages are obscured by the word "logo" in large type across the screen. Is there a rendering step or other problem I am overlooking? It doesn't seemed to be a problem with other export formats -- but it is essential I have this as a Windows Media file.

How do I export mail from windows xp to my mac? Can I just copy all my windows mail to a USB storage device and plug it into my mac?

Select "export' while in Windoz/Outlook and cerate an export file, then while in MacOS/Outlook select "import" and select the same file to import. You can use a thumb drive to sneakernet the file.

  • Export a Windows Media File

For some reason, I can only export the first half of my 30 second commercial to a Windows Media file. Odd. I really have no idea why it's doing this. Any suggestions?
AE CS3, working on a MAC
Heck if I'm missing it in the render Q options let me know.

There is technically no need to buy anything than one single Windows licence. No need for AE or other tools. Windows Movie Maker is free, Windows Media Encoder Basic is free and so is VirtualDub and several other tools that can output AVIs in a plethora of CoDecs and WMVs. All you have to do is get an AVI or MOV over to the Windows world... The question however is, how frequently you have to do this and if it is worth spending an afternoon with Bootcamp and a Windows install. You might quite well get happy with Flip4Mac Basic, which is a mere 99 bucks if I recall correctly. Things only get dicy if you need more advanced features of the more expensive Pro version. In addition, there's always the risk of something looking perfect on OSX and the client still ending up with an unusable file if you have no way of checking them on the native OS.

  • How do i play itunes in windows media

How can I play itunes in windows media?  I can burn in windows media, but in itunes it says it can't find the device.  Please advise.

You don't "play iTunes" in Windows Media. Both of these apps are media players: one native to Mac OSX-- iTunes and the other native to MS-- XP; Vista; Win7. The popularity of iPods initially, then iPhones and now iPads caused Apple to make iTunes+QuickTime available for Windows users who wanted to own and use those mobile devices but retain their Windows machines. The issue that you are asking is whether or not you can play your audio files in WinMedia instead of in iTunes. Yes, you can. You will need to launch Windows Media player and import into the library the audio files which are "living" in iTunes. Actually they are in the "My Music" folder of your home on the C: drive.

  • I have converted most of my windows media files to itunes. However I had to close it down about 3 quarters of the way through. It then processed the album art. How can I convert the files that it didn't finish doing the first time? thanks

    Hi there,
hope you can help me. I helped my sister convert her window media files to itunes and set up an account for her. Unfortunately her computer is really slow and it was really late and we had to turn it off. It processed some of the album art for the files that it had converted. However, some songs were not converted and because there was quite a few left, I don't really know which ones did not get converted as I selected  all of the folders. How do I find out which ones I have left to convert and put the rest of the songs onto itunes for her please? Or are they on the itunes still as they showed up initially on itunes in the list to be converted.
    Thank you!

You could convert them all again and then dedupe, or use a Windows search to reveal all the WMA files and then try to work out which still need to be converted. If you're lucky iTunes would have processed the imports in alphabetical path order so it would just be a matter of working out where it had got up to...

Great question Rosa.Lee! Music is definitely a priority for my wireless device. From your PC, you can drag music to iTunes and it will automatically format. Then you can connect your iPad and sync.

  • Can't export timeline as a Windows Media file anymore.

Using Premiere 5.0.3 for over 2 yrs now.  No problems until now.  I first export my 30 min. timeline as a H.264 file as a master.  No problem.  Then I would export my timeline as a Windows Media file (NTSC Widescreen) for easier viewing on other computers.  Again, no problem - until  last week.  Each time I try to export now as a WMV file, it takes the usual over an hour to do the conversion, but then when I look at the file information after it's completed, instead of the approx. 400 Mb file size, it will be some other smaller file size anywhere from 4 Mb to 217 Mb.  Everytime I try to export again, (and waiting again over an hour each time for the conversion to complete), the file size will be something considerably less than it should be and different each time...but the time will always be what the video should be - approx. 30 min.  If I view the video, it will abrutly end corresponding to the file size, IE - if the file size is 200 Mb, the video stops at about 15 min.  What happened?  Nothing changed in my computer.  No new program was added.  No settings were changed...and my editing computer is not connected to the Internet so as to avoid any possible contaminaton from outside sources.

Thanks Jim for your responses.  It's suggestions like yours that get me to think in another direction, which is a good thing.
I never suspected anything wrong with the hard drive or any corresponding components because the drive worked fine otherwise - playing back clips already on it, transferring files from one drive to another, etc.  At any rate, I opened up the computer case and swapped out the SATA cable to that drive (I have lots of spares of everything) and then did a defrag and check of the drive which all showed good.  I then exported a couple more videos in the WMV format to that drive and everything worked fine, so hopefully all is good from now on.
    Again, thanks for your help.

  • Exporting my movie to Windows Media File

I am trying to export a thirty second movie to a Windows Media file in Final Cut Express. However, every time I export it, it only does the first 14 seconds and I do not know why. My in and out points on the timeline are at the beginning and end of the 30 second clip. I have no other idea what could be causing the problem. Help!

You are using a demo version of the Flip4Mac plugin which only exports half of your clip, up to a maximum of 30 seconds.
To do the entire clip you will need to purchase the software.

  • Exporting to Windows Media file

I am using FCE 3.5, I am trying to export my project as a Windows Media file. Problem is, my project is 5 minutes long and it is only exporting the first 29 seconds. When I export as .mov file I get the whole 5 minutes, just can't do it for Windows Media file. Anyone know why this may be? Help please.
I have tried making sure in and out points are at beginning and end of project, I have also selected all clips before choosing to export.

Anyone know why this may be?
Because a trial version of Flip4Mac is powering the conversion. You need to purchase Flip4Mac WMV Studio to create a longer Windows Media file.
If it looks like QuickTime's powering it, it's not.
