How do i export video from tape camcorder to imovie?

i know it's in here somewhere...but just want to know what i need and how to do it. my canon camcorder is probably 6 years old...uses cassette tapes. i want to download all of them onto my imac (OS 10) and manipulate them in imovie. can anyone advise what i need to do? thanks...

Does it have a FireWire port? If not I would suggest spending the 100.00 for the adapter that allows you to convert it from VHS to your Mac. Best Buy or your local Apple Store should have then in stock. Or go here and order it http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/ConsumerProducts/Home+Video/Studio+Family/Video+Capture+forMac.htm

how do you download video from sony camcorder to imovie.

First open up Imovie. Then plug the camcorder into the USB port. The computer will search for the camera. It will give a snapshot of what is on there. You can just click on CHECK ALL. It will begin to import. It will also tell you how long it will take. Once it is imported, click DONE. THEN, this is important, drag the snapshots into IMovie on the top to create a new project. You can also click on New Project and name it. When all the pics are in the movie, it will be saved. You can then edit it any way you want. I've done this many times on a Mac. My problem is the internal memory. I have to find out how to get the internal memory videos into my computer. Am currently researching it. BTW, importing from the memory stick is what I did above. Hope this helps.

How do I import video from Sony TRV22E into iMovie ?

    Hi
Sony TRV22E - CAN ONLY export the VIDEO material via a FireWire Cable (iLinc)
    Then Your Mac need eiter
    - a FireWire port - or -
    - a Thunderbolt port
if only Thunderbolt - Then You need a FireWire to Thunderbolt converter.
The USB- can only copy over the Still photos You also cam take with Your Camera. Will NEVER work for Video Export.

  • How can i export video clips in iPhoto into iMovie?

how can i export video clips in iphoto into imovie?

    Hello andrewmarkp,
As long as the videos are in a format that can be used by iMovie, they will appear in your Event Browser, under 'iPhoto Videos.'
iMovie '11: Use video from your iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2196
If you’ve imported video from your digital camera into iPhoto, it appears automatically in your iMovie Event Library (as long as the video is in a compatible format).
To use iPhoto video in iMovie:
Click iPhoto Videos in the Event Library.
The videos appear in the Event browser on the right. You can select and use the video just as you would any other footage.
To learn about importing video into iPhoto, open iPhoto and choose Help > iPhoto Help.
    Cheers,
    Allen

How do I get video from my iPhone to iMovie? The videos download to iPhoto, but are not "available" in iMovie when I select iPhoto in event library.

I haven't launched iMovie in a while, and I've used iPhoto to import many videos from my iPhone's Camera Roll since the last time I launched and used iMovie.
iMovie prompted me to create/update the thumbnails for my iPhoto videos, along with indicating no iPhoto videos will be available with iMovie until this is completed.
Not sure how to do this manually, but this may be your problem.

  • How do I export video from a Canon Optura 30 camcorder to my iMac/ iMovies? I've tried a Firewire cable but imovies doesn't seem to recognise the camcorder.

I've been trying to export video from my Canon Optura 30 camcorder to imovies with a firewire lead, however nothing happens and imovies doesn't semm to reconise the camcorder. Can anyone help please?

Here is a compatibility chart for iMovie:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
I did not see yours; however, as long as it has firewire, it should work. Did you read the instructions in both your camcorder manual and in iMovie on the steps needed?
If you can't get it to work after following the steps, what format does it record in? Is it on a memory card? If so, it'd be easy: just use a USB card reader, plug it in and import your footage that way.

If so, you import the videos from the Camera Roll with iPhoto or with the Image Capture application. iPhoto is available to select photos and videos from with iMovie.

  • How do I export video from LR to iPhoto?

What I'm trying to do is make an imovie. I figured that the easiest way to do this was to export my videos from LR to iPhoto, but can't figure out how to do this. I downloaded the iPhoto publish service, but when I tried it, it said that it didn't support video. I'm open to any ideas about how to do this. I have LR3.

I'm not that familiar with iPhoto and iMovies, but why not just export from LR to your hard drive and then import into those other programs?  Or navigate to the originals and import those?

  • How do I download video from a camcorder to an imac?

I have a Canon Elura 65 camcorder that takes digital video and an imac OS X 10.6.7, and I want to download video that I've taken into imovie (not HD). However, I've connected the camcorder to the imac via usb cord, and the imac didn't register the camcorder. Then, I took out the memory card from the camcorder and inserted it into the imac slot; this one did register, but when I went into the card, it didn't have any of my video, only transitions and such, and one random video clip that I don't recognize. i really want portable versions of these videos; what now?

You could try Image Capture to find your device without removing the card:
With Image Capture you can set the default app to download; select the destination; choose to delete after import; import some or all and so on.

  • How do I export video from Iphone4 to Final Cut Express?

I have been successful in exporting photos from the iPhone4 to iPhoto. An earlier post was told to use iPhoto for downloading/exporting video but that did not work with me. Suggestions?

Thank you again. I was able to use Image Capture which found all of my images but not the videos that I was looking for. Now, I realize that I have left out an important piece of information in this mystery -- the videos were shot using Vericorder's 1stVideo Net. Realizing this I went to their site which was no help to me. Now I am wondering if there is an app that works like the Mac OS X "finder" but on the iPhone???

  • How do I import video from iPhone 3GS to iMovie'09?

I've looked all over and tried import within iMovie but can't do it.
I shot a short video on the phone.
    Want to edit in iMovie.
How do I export from the phone or import from within iMovie?
I know this must be simple -- I just can't figure it out.
    Thanks.
    sjh

OK, solved it for my system.
First, I did not have iPhoto opening up with the attachment of the phone. I do this deliberately because I don't use iPhoto -- I have an Adobe based workflow.
Then, I found that another program that opened with the connection of the iPhone was interfering with the import into iPhoto. So I turned that program off.
Finally I repaired permissions -- for no real reason.
When all of this was done, it worked.

  • How do I import video from digital8/hi8 to imovie?

I have imovie 10.0.4, on a mac pro machine with mavericks.  I have a sony trv520 which is digital 8 and will read hi8 and output both over firewire.  I have a hi8 video tape. I try to import using imovie and it says, "no data from device" even though I can see the video in imovie playing from the trv520.  I can't find any answers on the forums so far.  This process used to work easily last time I tried a few years back.  Now there seems to be no solution.  I also tried it on a macbook pro and got the same results.
I just want to easily import the videos into imovie.
Has anybody solved this. I can't find any answers so far after looking on different forums for a few hours.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    I have imovie 10.0.4
    That's your problem..
I have moved a lot of video from Hi8 and VCR videotapes.  There's a tad bit of work involved but once you acquire all the pieces you will get excellent results.
Moreover, your final result should be a DVD. That way you will have something you can watch for the next 30 years.  You can certainly save the video in other ways too, but I would also see it through to a DVD.
I use iMovie HD 06 with iDVD 09.
Your workflow is editing DV clips and making DVDs, iMovie '06 is better suited. Your movie will arrive at iDVD in DV format, which is an ideal match for making a DVD: same resolution, same pixels, aspect ratio, and original quality.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 09/11 is a 100% "lossless" combination and my DVD's look like they came from Hollywood!
You will also need a A/D coverter. (Like the Grassvalley ADVC300)
I've played around with countless other conversion systems, ranging in price from $79 to $399. Short verison, this is the ONLY unit to own. No dropped frames at all, even with questionable quality tapes, no jitter, great color, excellent sound quality. Zero setup with iMovie 06 and iDVD 09/11.
This is a prosumer deck. The time code function is alone worth the price if you have old analog footage. Absolutely NO "Out Of Sync" audio.
ADVC300 is for anyone who wants to do editing and is concerned about quality of color and speed, for the novice it is an incredible gizmo that will restore VHS tapes to a state close to the original fixing midtones, highlights and shadows on the fly. Not only can you simply convert analog to digital you can actually manipulate the signal going in (if you want to).
Use Mac OS 10.6.8 if you can.  (Newer OSs will work also but you will have to control the ADVC300 manually.)
A bit pricey but it WORKS.
The ADVC300 has been discontinued by the manufacturer. The included software (which is not really necessary but does enhance performance) is not compatible with OS 10.7 or newer.  You can still find the ADVC300 for sale in a few outlets as well as eBay. It will sell between 50% and 100% ABOVE its retail price. Yes, it's that good.
If you can’t find the ADVC300, use the Grassvalley ADVC110.
Why use iMovie HD 06 ?  iMovie 09, 10, and 11 uses 'single field processing' meaning every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie HD 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video.
For maximum quality here is my procedure:  ADVC300 > iMovie 06 > iDVD 09/11.
This may seem like more trouble than you want to go through.  However, I find the superior quality to be well worth it.

  • How do I get video from my iPhone into iMovie '09?

    I have iMovie '09, iPhoto '11 and a March 2007 iMac running OS 10.6.8.
How do I get video off of my iPhone 5?
iPhoto '11 can't do it: "file could not be imported, file is in an unrecognizable format" and iMovie '09 doesn't even see the phone: "no camera found"
I understand this works with iMovie '11 so I think I should upgrade to that but the current version of iMovie '11 requires OS X and system requirements for OS X for iMac is "mid 2007 or newer"
I also tried using Image Capture which gets the files off the phone and stores them as .mov files which then can not be opened by iMovie '09 or Quicktime Player.
    Thanks!!!
