How do i extend my wifi with a linksys router?

I have a network set up with a time machine extending to 2 separate airport expresses. I am trying to use a linksys router in place of one airport express in order to capture a stronger signal. I can't figure out how to get the linksys to communicate with the time machine without using an ethernet cable. Does anyone know how to do this?

Bob is being polite.. Apple people are like that.. !
I am more the typical nasty windows support person.
Mate!!
It will never work..
You haven't got a hope. Apple build their stuff to make sure your wretched Linksys cannot even see the Time Capsule.. (they make confusing names as well. Time Machine being software.. Time Capsule being the box you are talking about).
If you can flash your model Linksys to DD-WRT then you might get it working using universal repeater mode.. but even if it works the stability of it is so poor you will find 30min torture preferable.
You can plug the Linksys into the Express by ethernet.. and use the Linksys in wan bypass mode and extend wireless that way.. although the point of doing what the express is already doing is moot.

  • How I extend my wifi with a Vodafone router?

Hello, I have a DSL connection via Vodafone wifi Router (DSL-Easybox A 601 WLAN), and I would like to extend this wifi with my AEBS, but when I try to configurate it via wifi to to this "bridge", at the moment I select my current wifi, a message appears "the wifi you selected can not be extended", so how can I do it?
I simply can not change the vodaphone router for this AEBS, because I would loose the phone, and the range od this vodafone router is limited, can you please help me?
To do it via cable is not an option as well.
    Thanks,
    Clayton

If you check your Vodafone router, you should see an available LAN <-> port on the back. Connect an ethernet cable from this port to the port on an ethernet powerline adapter and plug it into a nearby AC socket.
At the location of the AEBS, plug the other powerline adapter into a nearby AC socket and connect an ethernet cable from the adapter to the WAN (circle icon) port on the AEBS.
If you need more info on ethernet powerline adapters, you can enter this phrase in the search engine of your browser.
Push the reset button on the AEBS until you see the amber light blink more quickly and continue holding a few more seconds after this and release
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab just below the row of icons
Assign a name to your AEBS, device password, and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Exact name of your Vodafone wireless network
Radio Mode = 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) or similar
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Exact same security that your Vodafone router is using. You may need to consult the product documentation or Vodafone support to obtain this information
Wireless Password = Same password as your Vodafone wireless network
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)

  • How do I extend my WiFi with Airport Express? I have Ethernet in the house and an Wifi that do not cover the whole house. I do not get it to work.

I have Ethernet in the house and an Wifi that do not cover the whole house. I do not get it to work. I have tried to get it into my network and it get connected via the WiFi but not the Ethernet. Also when it gives a green light I cannot see that it is giving any signals to my devices (iPhone etc).

You need to pay attention to something, while extending your network with the latest AirPort Express upgrade, your devices will be connected to it except your iPhone, you'll see your iPhone always connected to the capsule instead, even if you're at 1 foot from the AirPort Express.
You need to change the radio settings from automatic to 802.11a - 802.11b/g on your capsule, then I put it back to the default settings...
Now in the AirPort utility you should see your iPhone connected to the AirPort

  • How do i extend my network with a airport express

How do I extend my network with mt airport express

Hi Tesserax, I'd like to join this discussion. It seems Jasonbeyer didn't reply, but I have a question related to his.
I'd like to extend the wireless signal from my Cisco Model DPC/EPC2202 VoIP Cable Modem (802.11n) to the living room where, at the moment, it is non-existent. I assume there's inteference or the signal cannot reach through the concrete walls and rooms leading up from my bedroom to the living room.
    My question is:
I'm thinking of extending my wi-fi signal by using the Airport Express and simultaneously using it to connect to my hi-fi to play iTunes from my bedroom's iMac.
Something's telling me it's not going to be that easy. I'm using an iMac (7,1) if that's any help or clue.
What are the things I should take note of and will Airport Express be compatible with my modem? Would I have to get TWO Aiport Express to bridge the signal to my living room?
Thank you everyone for your time. Cheers!

  • Can i use airport extreme as wifi range extender in conjunction with a Linksys AE4500 router

can i use airport extreme base station as wifi range extender in conjunction with a Linksys AE4500 router

If you are trying to "extend" using wireless only......Apple tells us that their "extend a wireless network" feature is designed to only work with other Apple routers.
So, in order to use your AirPort Extreme as an extender, you would need to have another Apple router.....an AirPort Express, Time Capsule, or another AirPort Extreme as the main base station.
I haven't tested the specific Linksys model that you have, but have owned and worked with several other Linksys models, none of which were compatible with Apple for the purpose that you ask about....so I would have to say that it is extremely unlikely that your model would be compatible with the AirPort Extreme.

  • How do I set up security on my linksys router after the i...

How do I set up security on my linksys router after the install of a net gear wireless pc adapter?

Setting up your wireless connection in your router.
1.Open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.
2.You will now get a sign-in box, User Name = (Leave Blank)
Password = admin (all lower case letters)
3.Once the set-up page opens, click on the Wireless Tab as youwill need to change the settings. A) Wireless Network Mode = Mixed
                  B) Wireless Network Name (SSID) = Choose any name and do not use Linksys.
                  C) Wireless Channel = 1, 6 or 11 is best, so see which work best for you.
                  D) Wireless SSID Broadcast = Enabled.
    4. Now go to the bottom of the page and click on save settings.
    5. Click on the Wireless Security Sub tab.
                  A) Security Mode: WPA
                  B) WPA Algorithms: TKIP + AES
                  C) WPA Shared Key:  Type 24 letters, and numbers using lower and upper case letters
                  D) Group Key Renewal: 3600
    6. Once again go to the bottom of the page and click on Save Settings.
    7. Now you can close out of this page.
    8. You will now need to enter the security info into your computer. I will now give you 2 links, depending which operating system you have, Vista or XP you will follow the one you have.
    Vista = http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-adapter-configuration-in-vista.html
    XP = http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-adapter.html
Now try to make a wireless connection.
    Good Luck,

I want to extend my wifi from my time capsul.  Can I do this with airport express?  I have my wifi with cable so would I need to get another modem and hook the express to that?  Would that help?  I want to keep the same network and not add another.

  • How can i extend this wifi connection by using 3TB time capsule? I have a mac book pro i7

Hi, i have a wifi in my house connected to an adsl wifi modem with fibernet speed. I just bought a time capsule with 3 TB and installed it at home. However during the first installation i couldn't connect TC to my modem with ethernet cable due to the absence of the cable.
I would like ask if i can extend the wifi range of my network by connecting my TC to my modem without a cable after the first installation with cable is done?
    If yes,
Could you please explain how to do it?
    Thanks in advance.

No, there is no modem in the TC.. you must continue to use the existing modem.
That can be bridged if your ISP allows it, and use PPPoE client on the TC. It is then the main router of the network.
Sometimes that setup is not possible.. the ISP supplied modem will not bridge or the ISP doesn't use PPPoE as there are a number of different methods to connect.. but the TC only supports that one.
Otherwise just plug the TC into the existing modem router and use it in router bridge mode.. this is the simplest setup and easy to do.
Create a wireless network and you can then use the TC instead of the main router for wireless if you like.

  • How do I extend a network with an AirPort Extreme from an Arris TG862?

I'm using Comcast as my ISP, and after some issues with a previous Motorola modem, they supplied me with an Arris TG862 Router/Modem combo tower. I have two AirPort Extremes, one of which was previously connected to the old Motorola modem to send wireless into the house, but it only reached halfway, so I had the other AirPort Extreme in the middle of the house to "catch" the signal and then broadcast it out to the rest of the house. This worked fine for a while.
But with the new TG862, it doesn't seem to be an option. From what I've read, if I have the TG862 in one room (connected to the cable), AirPort Extreme #1 in the middle of the house, trying to join the existing network (or extend it?), and AirPort Extreme #2 in the far end of the house (to extend from AirPort #1), it won't work. Apple's "extension" technology isn't compatible with all other modems or routers, and even if it was, I'd have to somehow configure the TG862 to "allow to be extended."
So my question is, IF there is a desktop utilizing the TG862 as a direct connection (because it has no built-in Wi-Fi), is it possible to put the TG862 into bridge mode, connect one of the AirPort Extremes and have it act as the router so I can use AirPort Extreme #2 to extend that network out to the rest of the house? I want to ensure the desktop still has a connection, but there's Wi-Fi that actually goes out through the whole house.
The connected-to-the-cable-desktop is a PC; we have multiple iPhones, iPads, and anywhere from 1 Mac laptop to 1 iMac in the house at any given time.

Topic title pretty well sums up the question.
I have a TimeCapsule Base Station with two Expresses for extending the network through the house.
We're doing a 3 room addition, and there is not a convenient place to put an Express in a wall outlet in the middle room of the addition, but there's a perfect place to put an Extreme on top of a piece of furniture.
So, can the Extreme act as an "extender" only, in lieu of using an Express?
    Hiya.
You can absolutely extend a network with an Extreme. I've got a 5th gen. Extreme extending a network created with a 3rd gen. Time Capsule. On the Extreme, you'll have the option to allow (or not) WiFi clients. I recommend having all units updated to the current firmware (7.6.1 as of this writing). Note that extending doesn't work in daisy-chain fashion, meaning that your Expresses or Extremes will each connect to and extend from the TC. As such, you'll want the TC to be in as central a location as possible to offer the best coverage.

  • How can I extend the WiFi reach of my new Time Capsule 3TB in the best way?

    Hi there,
I have installed the new Time Capsule 3TB version and I would like to know how I can extend the reach in my house in the best way.
Does it make sense to add an Airport Extreme via Wifi as well?
    Thanks,
    Rick

If you need more wireless signal coverage, the "best" way to do this is add another AirPort in the central area that needs more coverage and then, connect the AirPort back to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
This type of setup maintains full bandwidth on the network. The result is much better performance in the "remote" area where you need more signal coverage.
Is is possible to have the AirPort "extend" the signal from the Time Capsule wirelessly....but you might want to understand the upsides and downsides to doing it this way.
Upside.....you will have more wireless signal coverage.
Downside.....the AirPort can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives via wireless. The signal will have already slowed considerably by the time that it reaches the AirPort....so the "extended" area gets a significantly slower signal than the main area.
If you decide to try the second approach via wireless extension....try for line-of-sight between the Time Capsule and AirPort to help minimize the signal loss that will occur.

  • How do i connect to wifi with ipad?

I just recieved my ipad 2. i cannot connect to wifi...help?

Ok so I have been battling with the same issue for a while now and have finally managed to crack it.
I have a Huawei 3G router that has been working for my PC;s and iPhone for a few years now. I then bought an iPad3 (3G and Wifi) and could just not connect it to the wifi network.
Fortunately I have a spare Linksys router (WRT320N) which has a setting to change the Wireless band from 2.4GHz to 5Ghz with 20/40MHz pipe. After changing this no problem iPad could connect.
So now I have 2 wireless networks running with internet connectivity only on the 3G so I plugged a lan cable from the 3G router into the internet port on the Linksys, set the Linksys up with a static internet connection and now I can access the internet via this method on the iPad.
Funny thing is, my iPhone cannot connect to the Linksys my laptop can however. Anyway so now I connect the iPad via the Linksys router and the iPhone via the 3G router.
I think Apple have pretty much messed up with the wireless bands on their products.......it would appear that they don't understand ? If they did they would make it pretty clear and from my efforts to try and sort this out i see there are many people out there, like me, who are laymen and there is no where that this is explained properly.
Most of the installed base of wireless routers I would think are on the 2.5GHz band, I say this beacause there are virtually NO wifi networks out there that I can connect to.
This is a huge frustration and a pretty poor reflection on Apple. So much for MOBILITY!!!!!

I've got a WRT610N Linksys router.  I'm using the web-based access to access my rouer.  That's nice, and all that, but when I get into it all I see is how to change settings, etc.  I want to know how to see what sort of activity is going on with it right now.  Not how to change settings, etc.

There is no such feature on the router. All you can see is the devices which are connected to your router under the DHCP Client table.
