How do I fade-in/fade-out a song?

Hi Everyone,
I have a question about fade-in and fade-out of a song...How do I do it?
I looked through the online help with the word "fade" and from a screen shot, it appears I can do this, but it doesn't say how. Can anyone please tell me how.

iMac G5 (pre-built-in iSight) Mac OS X (10.4.5)

from the "Track" Menu select "Show Master Track". It will appear as the last track on the GB timeline window. You will see a metallic pull down window on the track called "Master Volume", Click on the rectangular box to the left, it should turn blue.
Now in the track area you will see a long horizontal line that is designated with a "0 db" marking and also a little purple ball right next to it.
Head on down the line a few seconds into the track and click on the line. Another purple ball should appear.
Go back to the first purple ball and click and hold on it. Then move it down to the bottom of the track. This is your fade up. Fade outs on the Master track ( or individual tracks) are done the same way. You can slide those purple points around, up or down or side to side. to change volume or time duration between transition points.
In a few minutes you should get the hang of it all

im moving slowely forward in speeding up making presentations by using the new discovered smart tricks or functions.
So you understand my level of expertise:
This step by step production methode im using now give's me controle without the (full) knowledge of all the (smart)functions in this program.and slowely learning the way arround.
starting a project: a mix of photo's and avi's, starting with manual time line filling with the selected files then the timesaving "Standard crosover on all selected".
second: placing a header with the titel at the front and a ending a the end. (cut al the wrong or bad pieces and extend some photo viewingtime if needed.)
And then adding subtitels/tekst and use some other crosovers to highlight the change of subject or stills to movie.
And at last: placing the background music on "soundtrack": after some fiddeling around ive choose to cut the musictrack between the avi's instead of let the music play all the time and adjust the volume down to zero when a avi is playing.
this have two advantages:
1) the songs can be streched by by cut and jumping to the end of the avi soundtrack. (no loss of music through fading out and still let it play so need less musicsongs.)
2) And the rightclick fade function with the standaard fadingtime => "fade out" and "fade in" is easly to use because of the end track avi and begin track music timeline. (And if needed lowering the fading slope/ extend the fading time by moving the "points" on the audio line)
But; its a lot of work and after the first run through the presentation(or watching on TV) and there is a adjustment needed (fadingtime, volume-changes) you have to adjust every bit of the soundtrack. (keeping the volume "feeling" the same is the difficult part.)
I will read about the Smart Mix function and test it on a other project. see of its fits my kind of using and expertise. (every automatic (smart) function needs understanding of its purpes and limitations and there are a lot of them in premiere
What is in your opinion the most effective way of adjusting volume of audio parts across the hole project so its merged in to one audio/soundlevel?
(and offcourse in the hole way of building the presentation.)

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
In the absence of that information, I will generalize, tending toward Premiere Elements 11....
a. Right click the Expert workspace Timeline video, select Fade from the pop up menu and then the wanted Fade Audio or Video command.
b. In version 11, you could click on Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Opacity Panel and the shortcut Fades there.
c. You could keyframe the Opacity property in the Applied Effects Palette/Opacity or via the video track content rubberband at the Timeline Level.
Please supply more information for fading in out your video and audio track contents.

Simple question - How do I fade out a project?

There's got to be an easy answer to this. I have created a project in Logic 9 and would like to fade it out at the end. This is really easy in GarageBand (Track > Fade Out) but I can't see how to do it in Logic. Any tips?

Press A on your computer keyboard to show the automation.
You can make changes in volume in a similar way to the way that you do it in Garageband, so try it with different tracks first. You can fade the whole thing out by automating the main output channel, but it needs to be in the Arrange window for you to be able to do that, yeah ?
If you open the mixer you can select the main out and choose an automation mode from the button on the channel strip - that automatically put it into the Arrange window, there are a few other ways of doing that that are worth knowing.

Keynote is unable to do this. Use video or sound editing software to fade out and cut the sound track.
iMovie and audacity are examples of software you can use, or Google for others.

I'm trying to fade out the end of the song, except I can't seem to do it with the fade icon. I can't seem to do it with any of my individual files with some exception.
How can I achieve that typical 80's fade out of a song at the end? And what am I doing wrong?

For that,you'll need a time machine,mine rents out at 1,200 USD one way trip to that particular decade.You're not doing anything wrong,you are just using the wrong tool for what you wat to do,which is to fade out the entire mix.

I cant find out how to do it on certain parts in the middle of a song I am mixing. Can anyone help?

Tips to fade out a song

Hello all,
I want to take a song I have and use only about the first 15-20 seconds, but don't want to simply fade it out and Definitely don't want to just cut it. Ideally, what I would do would be to add a short echo that lasts maybe like 3 or so seconds long as if the guitarist just stopped strumming and the music just kinda trails off. The problem is that I don't know how I would go about doing this. What I've done in the past is clip out the middle of the song and use their endings, but that would only work when I match choruses but those songs are usually around a minute to a minute and a half, and that's way too long for what I require.
Basically, I'm going for some transition music, nothing more. Do any audio pros have any suggestions?

- open the file as an audio file (not multitrack)
- highlight where you want it to fade (in or out)
- (the more thats highlighted, the longer your fade will be.
- then just click fade in our out tabs which are located across the top.

Help please. How can you fade or crossfade songs on the actual iPod??

Hi. I just got my nano today. Was prompted to download version 7, did it, and everything went smoothly. All songs transferred to my iPod, no problem. However, the cross fading did not transfer. However, given that I just downloaded version 7 I might not have set it to cross fade before downloading all my songs. Does this mean I have to delete all the songs and start over? I've tried connecting the iPod with the usb cable and setting the crossfade to 4 seconds but it doesn't translate to the iPod. Help please. I realllly love major fading. In other words i want NO silence between songs. Thanks !

Oh wait, cross fading and gapless are different. So I can have gapless which I think I do have because the next song starts realllllly fast after the last one ends. So that is probably gapless but cross fading is not available on any models? Is that it? thanks alot

If you're in multitrack mode, you'll need to use volume automation. Click the arrow to the left of the track name to open the automation pane. Double-click on the volume automation line at the place you want your fade to begin. Double-click again at the place you want your fade to end and grab the little square dot to the bottom.

Try this set alpha to 0. Move ahead 20 frames or how fast or slow you want it.Change the alpha to 100%.Then create motion tween in the button symbol and place the movie clip in the over state.
Then it should fade as the movie plays.You can implement it the way you want it.
