How do I Fade in/out in Multitrack projects?

Hello. Is is possible to fade audio loops in and out in a Multitrack project? I see the Fade buttons on the tool bar but they are greyed out. I don't know how to do it. Can anyone help me? Thank a bunch. -- John

See that little triangle to the left of the track
names on the track header? Click that, and it will
show the envelope rows for the track.
If you double click on the black line, it will create
an envelope point. Drag these ponts up and down to
change the volume of the track over time.

I have a guitar rhythem on a track that is looped multiple times in a row.
When I open it in the Editor to Fade out, it Fades out every individual loop. I just want the end of the entire loop sequence Faded out.
How do I fade in or out?

Beside the track name (eg. "Track 1"), on the left side there is a small triangle, if you click it, you will be given a "Volume" and "and Pan" editor, double clicking on the black line will create points, you can adjust these points to adjust you volume, the the volume between the two points will gradually change.
Make a point where you want your fade out to start, then a point where you want the fade to end, by dragging the end point down with the mouse or, the volume slider you will achieve the fade out effect you are looking for.

How can I fade in/out audio only below a certain frequency?

I have an MP3 made from a MIDI file in which all instruments are unfortunately in a single track. I want to fade the tom part in because I thought it would be easy considering its obvious separation from the marimba part in the Spectral Pitch Display. How can I fade in these lower sounds only without affecting the higher marimba sound?

You need to go back to the MIDI file and adjust the level there - you can't do this after the event unless you use something like the incredibly expensive Melodyne. This can achieve harmonically related event isolation, which Audition doesn't do. Toms don't just exist at one frequency; they have a harmonic spectrum and if you don't capture all of the harmonics, you won't be able to alter the relative level of all of them - which is what you'd need to do. Otherwise it will sound completely wrong.

I thought this would be pretty basic: to fade in and then fade out a single track, but I can't seem to find a way? Is this possible in Garageband? Or should I be looking at Logic Pro 9?

We do a lot of multi camera work with kids. We constantly need to turn off their mics (in post) when not in use because they are rubbing them, coughing, etc. We turn it up when they talk and off when they're not talking.

Sometimes it's a bit more complicated than this and I want to get a full scren version of just this one track. So I thought double-clicking on it and bringing up the waveform editor (is that what it's called?) would be just the ticket. It's very quick especially with hotkeys 0 and 9 to go back and forth. But I can't se those handles or the volume line anywhere inside as you can see here:
How can I do this in the waveform editor? I know I can do it in the multitrack editor by making the view area of the track bigger by stretching it. But that's a lot of work when you have 6 kids and each one has 200 up/down points per session.
I would like a quick "multi-track view to fullscreen of one track" with one single click or hotkey.

Great, Steve. Sounds good. I don't like doing anything destructive since we work in a multi-person environment. I'm afraid that with so many people touching the projects, it's easy for a mistake to be made.
I like your last idea a lot (razor cuts). Maybe to pick your brain a bit, I would still like to fade these in/out a bit so we don't get the bad background noise (if a mic has it) popping in and out just before/after the person talks.
... Oh, I just tried this. Do you see any probs with doing something like this to fade in/out? This would be very easy for us?
Also, what would you recommend to keep the individual clips from shifting around accidentally? I know you mentioned muting the other clips, which is a great idea. But is there another way to do it with cutting out the non-used sections? I really like that idea better, since you can visually see where a person's audio comes in/out at in Premiere (something that was a bugger there unless you have your waveform expanded very large--but if you do that, you run out of screen real estate for video editing).
Since there are sometimes 6 mics to sync up to a video recording, if one clip gets bumped here or there, we're in trouble since now there's 20 little clips sitting on a track instead of one long one with up/down keyframes. Before it would be easy--just slide the whole long clip over to 00:00;00 and you're good. Now it could get messy.
I know the mutted tracks would be a solution, but since you're an expert at this, is there a way I can keep things locked in place while having clip-blank-clip-blank tracks?

im moving slowely forward in speeding up making presentations by using the new discovered smart tricks or functions.
So you understand my level of expertise:
This step by step production methode im using now give's me controle without the (full) knowledge of all the (smart)functions in this program.and slowely learning the way arround.
starting a project: a mix of photo's and avi's, starting with manual time line filling with the selected files then the timesaving "Standard crosover on all selected".
second: placing a header with the titel at the front and a ending a the end. (cut al the wrong or bad pieces and extend some photo viewingtime if needed.)
And then adding subtitels/tekst and use some other crosovers to highlight the change of subject or stills to movie.
And at last: placing the background music on "soundtrack": after some fiddeling around ive choose to cut the musictrack between the avi's instead of let the music play all the time and adjust the volume down to zero when a avi is playing.
this have two advantages:
1) the songs can be streched by by cut and jumping to the end of the avi soundtrack. (no loss of music through fading out and still let it play so need less musicsongs.)
2) And the rightclick fade function with the standaard fadingtime => "fade out" and "fade in" is easly to use because of the end track avi and begin track music timeline. (And if needed lowering the fading slope/ extend the fading time by moving the "points" on the audio line)
But; its a lot of work and after the first run through the presentation(or watching on TV) and there is a adjustment needed (fadingtime, volume-changes) you have to adjust every bit of the soundtrack. (keeping the volume "feeling" the same is the difficult part.)
I will read about the Smart Mix function and test it on a other project. see of its fits my kind of using and expertise. (every automatic (smart) function needs understanding of its purpes and limitations and there are a lot of them in premiere
What is in your opinion the most effective way of adjusting volume of audio parts across the hole project so its merged in to one audio/soundlevel?
(and offcourse in the hole way of building the presentation.)

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
In the absence of that information, I will generalize, tending toward Premiere Elements 11....
a. Right click the Expert workspace Timeline video, select Fade from the pop up menu and then the wanted Fade Audio or Video command.
b. In version 11, you could click on Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Opacity Panel and the shortcut Fades there.
c. You could keyframe the Opacity property in the Applied Effects Palette/Opacity or via the video track content rubberband at the Timeline Level.
Please supply more information for fading in out your video and audio track contents.

Simple question - How do I fade out a project?

There's got to be an easy answer to this. I have created a project in Logic 9 and would like to fade it out at the end. This is really easy in GarageBand (Track > Fade Out) but I can't see how to do it in Logic. Any tips?

Press A on your computer keyboard to show the automation.
You can make changes in volume in a similar way to the way that you do it in Garageband, so try it with different tracks first. You can fade the whole thing out by automating the main output channel, but it needs to be in the Arrange window for you to be able to do that, yeah ?
If you open the mixer you can select the main out and choose an automation mode from the button on the channel strip - that automatically put it into the Arrange window, there are a few other ways of doing that that are worth knowing.

Keynote is unable to do this. Use video or sound editing software to fade out and cut the sound track.
iMovie and audacity are examples of software you can use, or Google for others.

How to repeat fade in fade out images

Sorry for this stupid question but I am new to Flash and I really cannot figure out how to do the following:
I have 2 images that need to fade in and fade out so after 5 seconds image1 slowly begins to fade out while image2 slowly begins to fade in.
My first image does not fade in because on the start of the flash movie I want to directly see the first image.
But when image2 is done (so the whole movie is almost done) and it's start fading out.... I get to see the background (just a black empty background) while I actually want to begin fading in image1 (so looping the 2 image constantly).
So how can I immediately see an image on the start of the movie and still getting a fading in effect of the first image when the movie is almost on its end (so during the fading out of the last image)?
Can this be done graphically or do I need to write code for this?

For a basic, timeline approach to a 2-image fade in/out loop, let's say you have the following layers:
actions
photo1
photo2
photo1: your image appears right away on frame 1, with no fading.
photo1: on frames 30-45, fade the image OUT from alpha 100% to alpha 0%.
photo2: on frame 30, show the other image (no fading). This will appear to fade IN as photo1 fades OUT. Notice that photo2 doesnt' ever fade in or out - only photo1 does.
photo1: on frames 75-90, fade the image IN from alpha 0% to alpha 100%.
actions: on frame 90, enter gotoAndPlay(1); This will loop to the first frame and start the animation over again.
Give that a shot, and watch the animation - tweak it as you need to.

between those frames, create a motion tween.
it will fade as the movie plays. you have to implement it
according to your needs.

I am new to Flash, and have tried searching numerous forums to the answer to this question, but nothing I try seems to work. Basically I am trying to create a single "Image" that triggers different animations when you mouse over different invisible buttons located on specific areas. The technique I am using is basically spacing out the animations over different frames, and using the gotoAndPlay command specifying the where the relevant animation is located.
Here is the code from my actions layer with two animations:

Now basically all I need is some code that means that instead of abruptly starting and stopping the animation, the animation will fade in/out whenever the mouseover/out events are triggered. Note: the animation doesn't have to finish, it basically only plays while the mouse is over.

It will help oif you show the code for the code-based tweening. The basics of getting it working with the MOUSE_OVER/OUR commands is fairly straightforward.
You have listeners for both events, and the handlers for each listener is where you activate the tweens. For more seamless functionality it is usually a good idea to have the starting point of the tween be the point where the object currently is (its x or y (or both) propertiy) instead of a fixed value.
