  • Can't figure out why webcam video freezes (pauses) every now and then

I have created a small application to grab the video stream from a webcam that seems to work very well. But, every now and then the video pauses for no apparent reason. Any ideas why it might be doing this? I am using an undecorated JFrame for the app and there is an option in the program to dynamically change the window opacity using AWTUtilities.setWindowOpacity().

In that case, that's different. I thought you were complaining because it'd freeze for a moment or two and then keep going ;-)
Ummmmm, I'd guess that maaaaybe changing the opacity is affecting the validate() status of the pane? Like the following post:

How are you displaying the video? Just using a player, or what?

  • I am trying to email pictures from my ipad to my email address on my computer and I have been going along nice but now I get a message that says "cannot send mail the message was rejected by the server"  can't see to figure out why it stopped sending now.

I have been emailing pictures from my ipad to my computer and have been going along nicely and now when I went to send 5 pictures to my computer from my ipad I am getting a message that says " cannot send mail The message was rejected by the server"  cannot understand why this is happening and have not been able to fix.  Now when I try to send pictues even to another email address I am getting the same message.

  • How do I figure out why iPhoto e-mail isn't working?

I have used the e-mail within iPhoto for a long time and I've never had a problem. I use it usually to e-mail photos to myself for a particular purpose. Now all of a sudden, I can't get it to e-mail anything. I have tried re-starting the application and re-starting my computer. When I put my inputs in and click, "Send," the status bar shows, "Sending," but it never finishes, then I get an error that says, "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. Check your internet connection. If the connection is working properly, the email server may be down. Try sending your email again later."
Just to make sure there is no problem with my e-mail, I went into the e-mail program and sent an e-mail exactly the same way I am attempting to from within iPhoto (same e-mail addresses used), and my tests go through with no problem. I don't understand why iPhoto is having trouble with this.
This just further exacerbates my annoyance that iPhoto started this whole "e-mailing from within iPhoto" thing a couple years ago. Before that, I was able to do the thing I am trying to do with much greater ease. I basically just need "medium" sized photos rather than these super large photo file sizes that iPhoto has. If I choose the "medium" size for e-mail, it's the perfect size. Before iPhoto changed, and it was integrated with the actual Mail application, I wouldn't have to send the photos to myself. It would put the photos into an e-mail, then I could just save those photos to my desktop. So you can see why it's so annoying that I feel stuck with this lack of being able to e-mail when all I really need are the "medium" sized photos!
    Thanks if you can help.
    Melanie

But it is a better solution for me because, if you read my last paragraph of my original post, you'll see that's all I wanted to do in the first place. Having to e-mail photos was already not ideal for what I wanted/needed to do. So exporting to my desktop is actually a much better solution than e-mailing the photos to myself. I have no idea why I didn't think of it before.
I did go in and check my e-mail client preferences in iPhoto and there's no reason it shouldn't be working. I don't know why it's not working but I don't care anymore. If I need to e-mail photos sometime in the future (it's something I almost never do), I'll address the problem again then (if it's still a problem).
Larry, I really appreciate you trying to help me. Thank you.

  • Can't figure out why F4 produces Command-C

I've got a Mac Pro with a Matias keyboard running Snow Leopard.  It all works well but I recently decided to figure out why my F4 key doesn't work properly in the few applications that would use it.  My keyboard doesn't have a fn key and my function keys don't do hardware controls like volume and brightness by default.  The only key I'm having a problem with is F4.  What I've found is that F4 always generates a Command-C (Copy) no matter what program is active.
I tried mapping it with Butler but even Butler tells me I pressed Command-C and not F4.
I tried shutting down Butler since it's the only key-mapping tool I have running.
I looked through all the keyboard shortcuts in the keyboard preference pane and nothing is mapped to F4.
I thought perhaps my keyboard was doing something funky so I plugged in two other keyboards including a recent Apple flat style keyboard and they both produce Command-C too.  It must be something in my system but I can't figure it out.
Anyone have any ideas how I can figure out why F4 is producing Command-C?

Select the text, and open the Appearance palette (Come on guys, text highlight is irrelevant, it happens to objects too says the OP), and see what's listed there.  For a simple text object, there should only be a line item "Type", followed by "Characters", and when double-clicked the Characters line item expands to tell you the stroke and fill color.  For a basic object, there should be a fill and/or stroke.
What happens sometimes, is that you end up adding extra strokes/fills to objects or text, and the appearance palette is where that will be noted.  Especially when you are dealing with groups, and/or picking up a color with the eyedropper, you may inadvertently be adding a fill or stroke on top of something.  You can drag those unwanted thingies from the Appearance palette into its own little trash can.

  • Still have not figured out why itunes 10.5 wont install on my computer

i have tried everything i have uninstalled all apple products and tried to reinstall them but nothing will install correctly and it keeps giving me an error about there was an error during the installation of assembly 'microsoft.VC80.CRT .type="win32" i have no idea what this means im not very smart when it comes to computers im just a teenager trying to figure out why this isnt working so i can put my music back on my phone and update it so if anybody can help me out it would be greatly appreciated thank you

I am running WINDOWS XP and I get the same message as ITunes 10.6.1. installs. "A program required for this install to complete could not be run. contact your support personnel or package vendor."  The installation then terminates itself.
The message comes up while installing my current edition ITunes 10.3 with QuickTime, but the program seems to ignore this message and completes the installation.
What program is missing so that ITunes can be installed without any problems?

  • Newbie: Can't figure out why GUI is freezing

Hello, I am trying to make my very first program with Swing, and I cannot figure out why it freezes and what I need to do to prevent that from happening. This program simulates this game of life. If a button is selected (alive) and 2 or 3 (only) buttons surrounding it are also selected, then the button selected gets to stay selected. Otherwise it dies. Also, if an empty button is surrounded by exactly 3 selected button, it also becomes alive. Here is the code:

OK. I have updated my code to sort of work (it goes to the 8th round at best). How can I optimize it to actually make it continue running? Please help!

  • Can't figure out why green screen is pixelating!

I had terrible problems with square pixelating on my production.
any ideas on what caused this... we played with saturations all day with no effect. I did have a empty green "last frame". It seemed nothing we could do would help!
I filmed with a Sony DCR-SR68 HandyCam in the highest quality and the background I chose from a Free Use source for greenscreen back grounds online.
I hope you can give me some insight here...every tutorial i have watched made green screen in iMovie look very simple... and yet we could not figure out why this pixelation was occurring!
    reasons i wondered about:
    green screen is too light?
...however i have seen screens look a lot worse and work
something to do with how i am filming?
...i realized that "facial recognition" was turned on which caused the camera shot
to move a little as i moved
am i too close to screen?
...i was about a foot away from screen (but no shadows) and camera was about a yard in front of
    me
if anyone wants same rendering or screen shots let me know and I can email some!
Let me know what you think and if you need anymore info!
Thanks in advance for all your help!

    Earl...
I know you said you reformatted the drive but just in case, how much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
    fresh install of 10.4.7
Most recent version for Tiger is v10.4.11. Have you tried updating the software from the Apple menu > Software Update?

  • I need some help figuring out why parts of my form don't work

I have built a couple forms to use with my work, the first 1 is a write up sheet that I fill out while on a field job. When complete, I have an insert button that inserts times, dates customer info and employee info into a MYSQL database that is pertinent to the second form  which is a standard type timecard. It is with the timecard form that I am having problems. On the timecard form I have a radio button list with seven buttons (1 for each "start/stop" row of the timecard) when I click a button it makes a subform on the second page visible that allows me to insert the data from my database into the start/stop field of the timecard. I used the action builder to make these subforms visable and invisible and this all works except for 1. Also one of the subforms won't insert the data. I can't for the life of me figure out why, I have gone over both problems and don't see anything to cause it. I was hoping that I could upload my form and database somewhere and have somebody look it over, maybe I have overlooked something but at this point I have studied the problems for 3 days and haven't figured either out.  any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Yes, after the last iOS.  So is that different than the App update I just did through the app store?  Or is there a different version app that I need to go download again?

  • Can't figure out why I'm dropping frames during capture

I'm dropping frames when capturing 1-hour Mini DV tapes and I can't figure out why.
I'm capturing on a Mac Pro (Early '08) with 8 GB of memory running FCP 7.0.3 and OS X 10.6.6. I'm capturing to a 4 TB G-Speed eS (eSATA) formatted as RAID 5 (Non-Journaled Extended) with about 750 GB of remaining space. I'm capturing via FireWire with a Canon GL-2. This should be a breeze for this system.
I've run Apple Disk Utility, Disc Warrior 4 and Techtool Pro 5 on the drives and they seem to be fine. I've unplugged all USB and FireWire devices besides the keyboard and mouse. No virus protection or background utilities are running. I've trashed preferences. AJA System Test shows a 286 MB/s write speed and 254 MB/s read speed. Blackmagic Disk Speed Test shows a 312 MB/s write speed and a 379 MB/s read speed. No other applications besides FCP are running. I edit 1080p HD footage on this system all day long with no issues but when I try to capture DV SD footage, I run into issues.
The dropped frames error does not ever occur in the same place on the tapes. The tapes are brand new and don't seem to have any time code issues. The only thing I haven't done is to defragment the hard drives. I wouldn't think that capturing simple DV video would be that demanding; the defragment for a 4 TB RAID would likely take 2 or 3 days.
Any other ideas on what's going on and how to try to fix it? Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt reply, Studio X. Yes, I'm using FireWire Basic and no other FireWire devices. I've switched FireWire cables, although I doubt that's the issue as the cable I was using was brand new and fit snuggly. Unfortunately, I don't have an alternate playback device right now. Would switching to Non-controllable device capture settings be worth a try?

  • I have an iphone5 that is eating up data time and I can't figure out why? Any thoughts?

I have an iphone5 that is eating up data time and I can't figure out why? Any thoughts? I have closed everyting I can, even took the phone to Verizon and they are not sure what is going on.   My company email is active and pushes to the phone....I use Safari regularly to look up stuff for personal and work use.  I am on Facebook but have turned it off in notifications.  Four phones and a hotspot on the account....we have 6g and have never come close to it, until lately and it's my phone that's eating up the gigs.  So what the heck is going on?

Go to Settings/Cellular and you can see how much data each app is using. You can Reset Statistics, then track all of the apps data usage.

  • Slow ripping speed - can't figure out why....

When ripping at aac 128 or 160, I only get speeds up to 5x or 7x (depending if it's the beginning of the CD or the end). I cannot figure out why this is:
--The drive is rated at 24x read speed
--This happens with every CD I try
--The setting for both IDE contollers are DMA
--The processor is Core Duo at 1.83. When ripping only 50 to 70 percent of the processor is used.
    --7200 rpm hard drive
    --1 gig ram
    --error correction is not enabled
    --no other programs are running
Another problem is that while ripping, the computer becomes extremely slow - I can't even type! When I press a key it takes half a second for that letter to show up!
I have had other computers with much slower specs that ripped CDs to iTunes much quicker. What can this be??
Someone please help me, I have been trying for a while to get to the bottom of this, and I think I may be losing my mind.....
    Thank you....

  • Can't figure out why "Offline" Pls -Help!

I am running a HP Officejet Pro k5400 Series on a network through a print server running Windows Server 2008 64bit. I have the printer installed and configured and was working fine however, now it is offline and I cannot figure out why.  I have redirects and they work fine.  The diagnositc shows that it is fine and "ready".  Yet if I try to print to the actual printer, not one of the redirects, I eventually get a message that the printer is offline.  If it's a network issue then the redirects shouldn't be working either!  What am I missing?????

Here is a good article on things you can do.http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4032 You should back up your drive in case you need to do a clean install. Adding more ram can also help. Check in disk utilities and repair permissions. Also look and see how much free space you have. As a rule the minimum is 10%, more is better.  If you have some large apps putting them on an external dive can free up you start up volume.

  • Can't figure out why my iMac is so slow

My 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac has suddenly slowed to a crawl, and I can't figure out why.  Opening anything (including a Finder window) results in a 30 second to 5 minute lag.  I've seen the spinner more in the last month than I did in the previous 4+ years of owning it.
Since it's my spare machine now, I completely re-formatted the hard drive and did a fresh install of 10.4.7 from the discs it shipped with.  I have run the Apple Hardware Test, and everything tests OK.  Disk Utility tells me there's nothing wrong with the disk, and all permissions are good.  What am I missing?
