How do I finalise a Project in imovie 10.0.6 (Yosemite)

Hi guys,
I love iMovie, but generally only have time to create one per year.  I upgraded to Yosemite and iMovie was part of the upgrade.  I'm not finding it as easy to use, but just need a few tutorials I'd say.
However, after completing my latest creation, I can't find how to FINALISE it before creating a copy and sharing it.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers

There is no such thing in iMovie 10 - just share when you have finished editing.

I have just finalised a project on iMovie, and hadn't realized there was no idvd! how do I burn it to a dvd now?

    With iDVD.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

Go to the Project Library View and select your project.
Then FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT and give the duplicate a name like "your name - part 1".
Then duplicate it again and give the duplicate a name like "your name - part 2"
Now you can open "part 1" as a project and delete everything that is in part 2.
Open "part 2" as a project and delete everything that is in part 1.

  • How do I split a project in IMovie into two projects?  When I try to burn a DVD RDL in IDVD, it tells me the movie is too long.

I am running  IMovie 8.0.6.  (OS X Mavericks 10.9.5) How do I split a project into two projects?  When I share it in Media Browser to IDVD, and try to burn a DVD- RDL, it keeps telling me the project is too long.  Do I split it in IDVD and how do I do that?

AppleMan  Thanks very much for the information, however I could't make it work. I followed your instructions to the letter, in fact I tried every which-way. I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents"  but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. I also found that the file size was reduced to only a few Kb.  Any further step-by-step instructions would be appreciated as I am obviously doing something wrong.  Babowa  It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. Funnily enough an MOV file I converted to Mp4 was not greyed out and I was able to import it.... an exercise I am not keen on because of resolution loss during conversion

  • Hi! How can I continue my project in iMovie 10.0.1 in another Macbook?

Hi! How can I continue my project already started in iMovie 10.0.1, in another Macbook?

You need to make sure first that all the media is in your library and it does not contain links to external media that will break when you move your library.  You do this by choosing selecting the library in the libraries pane and choosing File - Consolidate Library Media.
If your library is on an external drive you can simply reconnect that drive to the other mac; otherwise you will have to copy the library package (it looks like a file with the extension .imovielibrary) to the other mac.   Launch iMovie 10.   The first time iMovie won't know where the library is so you will have to choose File - Open Library - Other and navigate to the library location.

  • How do i burn a project from imovie to a dvd

i just finished editing my video project via imovie. i tried to burn it to a dvd as i would in a pc but i failed terribly, does anyone here know how to go about doing. i just want to burn the movie that i have made to a dvd so i can send it to the rightful ownner. please help.

i just bought the new imac 2012 late release model
If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.

  • How to burn DVD with project from iMovie ?

Last year I had made several iMovie projects on a macbook pro. I was unable to burn them to a dvd so I ended up transfering them to a Windows computer and using ImgBurn and I successfully made playable DVDs.
I know have a Mac with Yosemite and I just finished a iMovie project. I need to burn it to a playable DVD. I've spent hours researching and trying to find a way. I have Video_TS and Audio_TS files, an iso file, and a mpg file. Surely, if you are able to create a "movie" there must be an easy way to burn it to a DVD?
If a Superdrive is able to burn DVD's shouldn't there be an option somewhere?
    I have iMovie 10.0.6
    Yosemite 10.10.1
    I do not have iDVD

I solved my own problem. After two full days of trying and having multiple videos files (iso, mp4, mpg,video_ts, audio_ts,etc) I was finally able to burn a playable DVD! I ended up using miDVD to burn it. I first exported my iMovie project as a file and opened up the Movies file and dropped it in there. From there it showed up in the miDVD program and it was super simple to get it burned to a dvd that works in dvd players and on my mac.

  • How do you finalise a movie in iMovie 10.0.6?

I have just spent the last two weeks compiling photos and videos into an hour long video on my Macbook Air, which has consequently used up all of my hard rive space. Now that it is complete, I am trying to burn it to a disc so I can delete the footage from my Mac. In my older version on iMovie, I clicked finalise and then chose to burn to disc. But these options are not in this new version???? Does anyone know how to get my movie onto a disc???

You need to have a LOT of hard drive space, either on the internal drive or on an externally connected drive to do any real video editing work as video editors save more than one copy of your movie while you are working on it in the editor.
You should not be trying to do video editing with marginal hard drive free space on your Mac's internal hard drive.
30-40 GBS of free space is very marginal if you are trying to do any type of video editing on your Mac
Your. Mac's hard drive should have, at least, 75 to 100 GBs of free hard drive space.
Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a computer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto or Aperture, both have its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you are an iMovie/ Final Cut user, both apps have their own individual Trash location that needs to be emptied, too!
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
    http://www.omnigroup.com/more
    Also, Find Any File
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

  • How do i get a project from iMovie 11 to idvd

I made an iMovie using 10.0.4.  How do I get it to iDVD so I can burn dvds with that movie on them?
What do I do?  Share to File (whatever that is.)?
    Thanks,
    Hal

    For iMovie 10 select 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.  Do not move the movie file once it's been imported into the iDVD project.  Therefore place it where you plan on keeping it full time.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Newbie needs advice on how to approach a new project using iMovie/Cubase

    Hi all.
As you have probably guessed it's a music to picture problem, never done it before so I need some advice. I'm doing a guitar tuition DVD so there will be some playing and some speech. I can combine both real time via the mixing desk and feed it straight to the camera's mike input. This seems to be the least flexible and most low tech approach. I would prefer to fiddle about in Cubase to get the audio right before fixing it to the video. I am unsure how to use iMovie and Cubase in a combined way to produce what I'm after. Cubase will handle video and iMovie will handle sound but which way round do I do it? I'm at a loss as even what questions to ask! At the moment I'm setting iMovie to record from the camera, setting Cubase to record the audio and clapping in time with the count in to act as a sync. Once I have my audio file I can import the vid into Cubase or import the audio into iMovie. Am I missing something here or is this the right way to do it? ( I might sound vaguely clever but don't rely on it in your answers ! I'm a guitarist after all....)
    TIA Nick.
,quad G5 Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

musicians are used to do everything simultanously (=band), film/video is doing each thing after the other ;-):
    I would
    * record the video to a camcorder, incl. guitar/music but NO voice-over…
    * import that into iM…
    * edit all together
    * THEN use this as a "click track" for any audio processing…, mainly adding the narration
    * re-import the final audio track back to iM, create videoDVD, getting rich by selling zillions of them....
advantage: you concentrate on playing guitar OR telling the tricks&clues...
besides: whatfor you need Cubase in such a project...? or is it "Guitar IN Cubase"?

  • How to recover a Phantom project in iMovie app...??

Greetings. Found the remains of an old project I used from my old iPhone 4s when upgrading to the 5s. The project has long been erased from camera roll, but I have the option to play it only on the iMivie app under projects (as it rejects any attempt from me to share or download it). I'm assuming since its playable, there has to be some copy of the original...but don't know how to go about retrieving it. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it possible to get it off my phone?
THANK YOU ina advance for any help you can give....

  • How do import an iDVD project into iMovie?

    Hello,
I want to make changes to a movie, but I can't find the movie. It's just me. I have the iDVD project, and I know I can "play a DVD into iMovie, but wouldn't it be better to get the .proj into the event?
    Thank you.

First, see if your MP4 file will play in QuickTime Player.
If it will, click Command-I in QuickTime Player to open the Inspector. Tell us the dimensions of the clip, and everything listed beside the word Format:

  • What happened to my iMovie Projects in iMovie 10.0.6 (Yosemite)?

They are in my hrd drives but when I load them into the new iMovie they all appear in a clump under today's date, as though they are all one event. I hate this! How can I come to my machine and be productive with this mess?

Check your Applications Folder for a folder called iMovie 9.0.9. Inside you will find iMovie 11 (version 9). You can drag this to your dock and you are back in business with iMovie 11.
When you installed iMovie 10, you should have had the option to keep your iMovie 11 events intact. If so, you can still edit them.

  • Import project from iMovie 10.0.1 in the Final Cat Pro X 10.0.9

How can I import a project from iMovie 10.0.1 in the Final Cat Pro X 10.0.9?
If the file before the project was in the ' Movies ' folder, now there is no such file. There's only ' Library iMove ', but no file that can be moved in the Final Cat Pro.

Thanks for your confirmation!  It seems to me this is the situation after tons of research.....
I really don't understand Apple's logic/philosophy now.... in the new iMovie... it takes out the keywords which is extremely important to anyone with many clips.  I don't mind to pay for the expensive FCPX but I am told that FCPX cannot migrate the iMovie library..... sigh....... what **** they are thinking....
BTW, it seems the "Send project to Final Cut Pro" function doesn't support sending even the "Event". It supports only sending project with the clips associated with the project.  There is no way to send the clip without associated to project.  Anyone can confirm it?
