How do I find and then use back to my mac with ios5

I wish to be able to do unattended screen sharing over the internet (remote, not local network). I can't seem to see my remote computer on the finder as a shared device. Both computers (Macs) have correct settings in sys pref with screen sharing on and all users set. Is this also what is known as back to my mac, and if not, what is it. I am on Lion on both computers, using IOS 5.

I have been playing whole movies before from VLC without problems.
    Any Ideas?

  • How do I use Back to My Mac with a new Time Capsule if I don't have a MobileMe account?

I just got a new time capsule and I'm trying to set it up so that I can remotely access the files when I'm at work/on the go etc. Now I have an iCloud account, but I don't have a MobileMe account. I do have an @me.com address because I enabled Mail thru the iCloud pref pane and I setup the @me.com email address but I'm still not able to use back to my mac.
I am running the latest fully updated version of lion on the latest model air, working with a 2TB 4th gen time capsule

  • How do I find and access files backed up using a time capsule on a different mac?

I have been backing up files from two macs to a time capsule.  I had a problem with the time capsule and took it to an authorized facility for repair.  When I got it home and reconnected to it, the time capsule seemed to start over as though it was the first time it was ever hooked-up.  The repair facility says my old files are still there.  My question is, how do I find the original backup files and reconnect them to my macs?

On one of your Macs.....try a right-click on the Time Machine icon on the dock and then select Browsel Other Time Machine Disks to see if you can locate your backups there.
If you find them, you will be able to restore files from the disk as needed. The same would be true of your other Mac.
If Time Machine started all over with a new backup of each computer....as I suspect is the case based on the info in your post.....you will not be able to combine the old backups with the new backups.
To switch back to your new backups, click the Time Machine clock icon at the top of the screen and select Time Machine Preferences. Click Select Disk and click to highlight your Time Capsule disk. Then click Use for Backup.

  • How to manually configure and then use DHCP

I'm having problems with internet connectivity. If I try to configure in Airport Utility, there are two choices - manual or use DHCP. If I allow AU to renew the DCHP lease, I end up with a bad IP address (one of those 169.... ones). If I configure manually and put in the IP address my service provide gave me, then I can input the address, but without the lease renewal, it won't connect. Put in the address in manual, switch to renew the lease, the bad address shows up.
Obviously, since I'm writing this on-line I have connectivity, via the Ethernet port in the back of my iMac, which has the correct IP address I had to type in and is also using DHCP.
So, what's the difference? Why won't Airport line up things just as the Ethernet network will?

It sounds like your cable/DSL modem is not properly recognizing the AirPort Express Base Station (AX). Most of the time this can be remedied by just performing a complete power recycle when changing network configurations ... like when you switch what is connected to the modem.
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the modem, AX, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • How do I use Back to My Mac with other iCloud users?

Under MobileMe, I had a family account. I had the main account, and my mother and father, had email only accounts. Also, as I am the unofficial tech support to some friends, I had their Airport base stations registered under my MobileMe account so I could configure and update them remotely.
I've upgraded myself and my parents to free iCloud accounts. I have an admin account on each of their Macs, but both are set to log into their own accounts on startup.
Now I can't see them in my list of Shared resources in the Finder's sidebar. I have no way of connecting with them, except via iChat, which is (in my experience) less reliable and requires more effort on my parents' part.
Is there a way I can configure iCloud on my Mac or theirs, so that we all appear in each other's Shared list as before?

Unfortunately, Back to My Mac only works across computers using the same iCloud account.

  • How do I enable NAT to use "back to my mac" on iCloud?

I get an error message when trying to set up :back to my mac" which tells me to enaable NAT and to refer to my router manual. I tried Tech Support of the router and they told me to contact Apple. Any ideas anyone?

Check your router for a setting labelled UPnP or NAT-PMP. Enable it and that should solve your problem.

  • Time Capsule remotely using Back To My Mac with iPhone.

I'm connecting my Time Capsule remotely using iCloud - Back To My Mac. It's possible to make the same connection using my iPad 2 or my iPhone?

What is the exact model of your modem?
Do you use pppoe authentication in the modem.. If so you can just bridge it and use pppoe in the TC without any issues.
Apple cannot be expected to fix every modem and every ISP out there. Unfortunately networking is done is so many ways that it is impossible.. the ISP is actually the one who should help but they generally are useless.. or want you to pay for support.
Yes, send pics of the configuration.
Are you getting a public IP from your ISP? If not then none of this will work.
How are you testing access? You cannot test from inside the LAN .. you must use a Mac computer from internet access that is not firewalled.
Remember this is a two way street.. both ends have to have full access.
If the BTMM approaches doesn't work do try it manually..
There is clear instructions on the web to setup access.
    See http://gigaom.com/2009/05/14/access-your-time-capsule-over-the-internet/
You don't need to do the fancy scripting.. just setup your modem router to forward port 548 to the TC.
You don't give wan access in this case... you are accessing on LAN.
But you do need to use some more security than normal TC password.. ie use disk password.
This is proof of concept.. if this works then BTMM should work if you get all the settings right.

  • How do I use "back to my mac" with iCloud?

Can't seem to find any info on this. Need to know how to use this service.

I started a thread about the same thing. I never had a MobileMe account, and I'm having a lot of issues trying to set this up. I have contacted apple, and they have been very nice to try to figure it out, but even they say a lot of what iCloud offers is new to them. I will let you know if I hear anything.

  • How can I find and save deleted messages on my Mac?

i am searching for ddeleted messages on my Mac and I can't find them.  If they are attainable, how do I save them?

    Hi,
Presuming the Post is about the Messages app and iMessages.
If you delete them they are gone or the Mac.
An iMessages arrives  and is displayed in the App.
there is a setting in the Preferences > General section about Saving on Close.
The iMessages are also stored in the chat.db items (unless deleted) and this provides the "history" when you reconnect to a contact who is not currently on display in the main window.
In Mavericks Saved Chats and the chat.db items (there are three in total) are held in different places.
The app does not work like Mail where the emails can be left on the Server and "read" by other devices.
The iMessages are pushed to the devices that then accepts them.
After that the "sync" function ends (What you do with the iMessages on one device is not seen or changed on another)

  • How do I play and then copy DVD movie to mac for film editing

I have just come home with my new mac book pro.  As recomended by the reseller I have connected an external  slim portable DVD writer/reader so that I can view, ...DVD's.  I am unable to view or copy the file contacts to the mac so that I can then later open the file in imovie for editing and clipping.
I would very much appreciate your assistance on this.  I am trying to make a home movie of old cine films that have been converted to DVD.

You need to use a video encoder such as Handbrake (Free)
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/12987/handbrake
    or
    iFFMpeg - Shareware ($20.40)
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/35846/iffmpeg
Once encoded you can edit using Final Cut or iMovie

  • Is it possible to set up Time Capsule on one network and then access its stored data (movies) using Back to My Mac from another network that also has Apple TV to play them?

I recently purchased a Time Capsule to store data at my office.  I have an Apple TV at my home that I would like to start using to play my movies.  With the storage of the new Time Capsule, I am curious if I can somehow store my iTunes movies on the Time Capsule at my office and then use Back to My Mac to access the TC from my home and then play them via Apple TV.  Does this sound possible?  We have an iMac at the office that remains on 24/7 connected to the TC.

ATV cannot play movies from the TC, even if it is on your home network.. ATV is a streamer.. it is not a media player.. and the TC is a dumb as a board hard disk in a router.. so it has nothing in it either.
You cannot play movies from ATV without itunes, which streams to the ATV.
If the iMac is running 24/7 then you should be able to connect to the iMac remotely and run from iTunes on that, which could then play movies stored on the TC.. with the following issues.. if you use wireless on the iMac forget it. The iMac has to be ethernet connected as it has to pick up the movie on the library and play it back to the TC to network to your home.
The next issues is speed of slowest connection.
Your download to your home maybe great.. what is the upload speed from your office like??
If you pay for uploads and downloads you will pay for the movie 3x.. first to download it.. second to upload it.. office to net..  and third to download it again.. net to home..  Sorry but it is better to play the movie directly from online itunes store.
If you plan to try and play non-itunes movies over the connection, it won't work.. ATV as stated is linked to itunes and cannot play movie files.
Overall this sounds like you need to think it out a bit more.

  • Find and replace using wildcard

I've inserted table content using Insert/Table Objects/Insert Tabular Data in DWCS3 and want to remove unwanted code from the table insert.
    Example:
    <td width=156 valign=top style='width:117.0pt;border-top:none;border-left:
      none;border-bottom:solid windowtext 1.0pt;border-right:solid windowtext 1.0pt;
      mso-border-top-alt:solid windowtext .5pt;mso-border-left-alt:solid windowtext .5pt;
      mso-border-alt:solid windowtext .5pt;background:#FF8A50;padding:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt'><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-bookmark:CurrentPosition'><span
      style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial'>
The text between "width" and "Arial'" varies but these two start and end words are the same in each instance to be replaced - how can I find and replace using a regular expression wildcard?  Have researched on web but not come across answer yet.  I thought it might be simple and hopefully it is and I'm just having a shocker. Is it something like Find:  "<td [^"]*> and Replace with: "<td>"?  Am I close?
I'd appreciate anyone's help and thankyou in advance for your time.

You might be able to sort this out with Commands > Clean Up Word HTML.
However, the following regular expression should also do what you're looking for (make a backup first). Put this in the Find field:
    (<td)[\w\W]+?Arial\'(>)
Put this in the Replace field:
    $1$2
    Select "Use regular expression".
