It's probably like looking for software for my G4 computer. You have to hunt around in a slow and methodical process and realize that fewer and fewer people develop for older platforms. Right now about 95% of my software is no longer being updated for my platform. You just stick with the old stuff. Make sure you have it backed up because developers sometimes remove old versions from download.

The Mac App Store and iOS App Store are entirely different. To find iPad apps, you need to open the App STore on the iPad. Well blow me down & keelhaul me! I've solved my own problem. The issue appears to be that Apple won't sync Smart Groups from Address Book to the iPhone. I created a test group with a few dud contacts in Address Book; iTunes sync'ed then OK & as soon as I went into Contacts on iPhone, there suddenly was the Groups button appearing with 2 Groups - my Test Group + all Other contacts. Nice one apple - another undocumented feature! Looks like I have to do away with the Smart Groups feature & convert them all to normal Groups in Address book - bugga!

Easy enough to do in iTunes.
Find the song you want and note the start/stop time you want the ring tone.
Right click - get info, click the Options tab and set the start/stop times as above.
Right click - Create AAC version. This creates a new file.
Drag this new file from the iTunes window to the desktop.
Delete the file from iTunes and also select Delete from hard drive.
On the desktop, rename the file whateveryouwant.m4r (first part you can change to whatever you want & change the extension to .m4r).
Drag the file back to the iTunes library at top left.
Make sure iTunes prefs > General has Tones ticked.

Just go to App store and type in what you want in the search box. Say, apps for word processors, Anti virus apps, Games apps and so on. You could also go via Google with a similar approach and lastly, the system divides up particular subjects in any event ... under the term Categories.
Having said that, the system isn't a mind reader. It's up to you to refine what you've been presented with.
