How do I find my old GPG Keychain in a Mac Timemachine backup?
My Mac froze up (software problem) and I am doing a "bare metal" reinstall of all software I have installed Thunderbird and Enigmail. I don't even know if the GPG key chain is stored on the Mac, but can not find it in the Time Machine backup. I did not export the keys (I am really interested in my private keys) as the Mac was frozen. Any idea how/where I can get my old keychain back? Or at least my private keys? I can get others to send me their public keys and can add another new public key if needed, but I would like to read the encrypted mail stored on e-mail servers and need my old keys.....
Thx

i have a new pc how can i find my old files
If you are just transfering purchased music then when you iPhone is plugged in, right click on the name of it on the left hand side of iTunes, click transfer purchased.
If you want to transfer all media from your iPhone to your computer, if it isn't all purchased through iTunes, then you are going to have to buy software that will do it.
http://www.mp4converter.net/iphone-transfer-mac.html should work, I haven't used it before but it looks promising and the reviews are good. -

I have recently switched to icloud. Lately I have not been able to receive emails. A msg comes up asking me to reenter my password. Perhaps I am entering the wrong password and have forgotten what it is. How can I find my old password or change it and get my .mac account email working again?
If it was setup using your iPhone and your Apple ID then as far as the iCloud team will be able to find out, you set it up. Passwords cannot be retrieved.
Change all passwords on accounts associated with your iPhone. -

how can i change an old owners keychain password into mine so i can update software
Create a new keychain.
I'd generally suggest acquiring and wiping and installing the most recent version of OS X onto the system that it'll support, as you'll spend more time and effort undoing what was done before. You can usually get the proper distro with a call to Apple.
Given the iBook is PPC, you'll be limited to Leopard (10.5) at most, and possibly not that version. -
How do I find an old Bookmarks folder and addresses therein on Time Machine?
How do I find an old Bookmarks folder and addresses therein on Time Machine? My current bookmarks folder was overwritten by iCloud.
Short Version: Restore ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Long Version: First you need to open your (normally hidden) Library folder. One way is to press option then use the Finder Go menu to select "Library". In there you will find a Safari folder. Open that folder then enter Time Machine. Restore Bookmarks.plist. -

i backed up my ipod during a windows backup. how do i find those ipod files(not itunes) in the windows backup files? i've tried searching and i can't find
so i plugged in my ipod and it asked if i wanted to backup the files before restoring it.
Do you mean iTunes asked if you wanted to backup files before restoring? If so the it is in the location I posted. You don't need to navigate to the backup. Once your restore your iPod it will ask if you want to restore from a backup and present you with the backups made before hand.
To restore information from a backup, use one of the following methods after connecting your iOS device to the computer with which you normally sync:
-Click the File menu and select Devices > Restore from Back up.
Or
-Open the iOS device's Summary tab. There are two ways to access this:
-Click the device button in the upper right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper right corner. The device button will then be visible.)
-From any view in iTunes, click the View menu and select Show Sidebar. Select your iOS device in iTunes under Devices.
-Click the Restore Backup button. -
How can I find Lion to download it to my Mac Book? It has Snow Leopard and 4GB RAM but it the white plastic model and is not compatible with Mountain Lion. I have been told by the Genius Bar that it will handle Lion.
That underpowered model is better left on 10.6.8 for performance reasons, also the fact that it's dated and 10.7 will likely require you to buy alll new software to replace the PPC based software your currently using.
If you insist, then call Apple via phone and they will sell you 10.7 Lion and provide a link to download it.
My 2¢ is to save up for a new machine, as that one is about to kick the bucket, they only last about 4.5 years or so depending upon use/enviroment.
If your having problems with 10.6.8, perhaps some of the links here can assist, 10.6 is faster than 10.7 in fresh install tests.

how can I find the su - root password on my mac?
Chances are you could have also done
sudo su -
which would now make you 'root' until you exit. You could do all your setup running as root.
Very few if anything actually needs the root password to use root privileges, and having a system where root cannot be directly logged into, is a safer system. -

Time machine - on a new Mac, how can I find my old files?
My iMac had to give way to the new baby, so I got myself an older MacBook Pro to replace it. I used the Migration Assistant to port all my music, photos etc. over, but the hard disk was smaller so had to forgo some bigger files - like my iMovie library.
As a regular Time Machine/Capsule user, I figured getting a hold of everything would be feasible.
However, now on the MacBook Pro, I can't connect to my old Time Machine volume for the iMac, and can't access any of the stuff I didn't port over. I'm certain the iMovie library is there, but I can't see past "Today" in Time Machine. Any help on how I can access my old files will be most appreciated.Go here and read the several User Tips at the top of the topics list. You should find an answer in one or more of them. I had an old iPod nano with my content saved on it and was stolen. As well, I can't find and access my old account that I had with it. I bought an iPod touch and made a new account so that I could use the iTouch. Anyone know how to find the old account and how to transfer data from the old one to the new account?
