How do I find origional files?

I rearranged my music folders on my computer and now when I attempt to play a song in my iTunes it gives me this error message:
The song could not be used because the original file cannot be found. Would you like to locate it.
I am able to locate the song, but finding my whole library like this would be impossible. Help!

When you change the folder structure of your music files, iTunes has no way of knowing what's being done.
The references it uses to find the song files are based on the previous structure but because of the changes that have been made, those references no longer lead it to the songs in your iTunes Library.
There is an alternative to telling iTunes about the new path to your songs on a one by one basis - which is what you're doing now. Unfortunately, though, there is a drawback to the alternative: You will lose all the information that tells iTunes about Ratings, Play Counts, Dates Added, Dates Last Played, Dates Modified, Equalizer Presets, Volume Adjustment and Playlists (the last three, if applicable) for your songs.
If you're willing to pay that price, here's how to go about it:
First of all, quit iTunes.
Now, assuming you've kept iTunes default settings, open Windows Explorer and make your way to C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes . You will remove the two iTunes Library files - iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml - from that location. Putting them out of the way on your Computer Desktop is probably a good idea.
Next step is to run iTunes. When the program is running, you will see that the Library Display is now empty, the reason being that when you removed the iTunes Library files, you cut off the last connection between iTunes and your music files.
Finally you will add the music to iTunes by your favourite method as described in the Add to Library section of this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.
Just remember that for iTunes it will be as if the songs are being added for the first time and it will have no knowledge of their previous existance in your Library.

  • How do i find a file in finder exported to youtube using motion 5?

i just tried to upload a video from motion 5 to youtube. it transcoded/exported the file and failed uploading to youtube but i can't find the file. how do i find the file so i can upload it manually?
side note, a second question, this is the only way i could export the video that would make it a normal size (650MB), every other regular "export movie" selection ended up being 10GB. what settings do i use to make sure it's a normal size? the video really isn't that high quality and i have no idea why it would be that big.
    any help is appreciated.

What do you mean by "normal" size?  What is the frame size, frame rate, and codec you're editing in the Timeline?

The music continued to play with the iPod?
If so, when a call is received while listening to music with the iPod, when the call is answered the music should be paused. When ending the call, the music starts playing again from where is was paused.
There is no automatic mute with notifications for received email or messages while on a call and there is no setting for this.

  • How do I find a file size for a project in its entirety ???, How do I find a file size for a project in its entirety ???

How do I find a file size for a aperture project in its entirety ????

You can't. The Aperture library is a combination of database and flat files, a project can be split among multiple files in combination with other projects. The size of any of those files (or a sum of the files) would have no meaning concerning the size of a project.
BTW typing in a large bold font like you did is seen by many in then on-line community as a sign of shouting and is considered bad form. When I try to open a picture in iphoto a message tells me the file cannot be found. How do I find the file?  It does not happen with all the pictures.

Is you library a "referenced" or "managed" library:
That message is generated when a library is a "referenced" library and the location of the files have been moved from where they were when originally imported into iPhoto.
Are the photos that this is happening to in the same Event(s)?
What system are your running?  Where is your library located? How much free space do you have on your boot drive?

    Where your backups are stored
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:
        Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
        Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
        Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.

  • How do I find corrupt file that would be disallowing proper exporting of movie?

How do I find corrupt file that would be disallowing proper exporting of movie?

I usually start by exporting to AME (as opposed to encoding "in-process" by clicking Export in the Export Settings dialog). Then watch the preview in AME's Encoding panel to see where it chokes. Adding an adjustment layer over the whole sequence with the Timecode effect applied--and scaled up to full frame width--can really help isolate the location.
That approach can be a pain in cases where it chugs away for a long time before encoding fails. In those cases, I use a divide-and-conquer approach:
Is it the video or the audio?: Disable all video tracks and encode. Then re-enable the video and mute all audio tracks
Where in the timeline is the problem: Export the first half, then the second half (using In/Out Points). Then keep dividing the half that fails until you've narrowed it down to a relative handful of clips.

  • I saved a file on my mac on Word, but today when I went to review it, it said the "document could not be found" and then asked if i wished to locate the file myself, but when I went to do so it said the same thing again. How do I find this file?

I saved a file on my mac on Word, but today when I went to review it, it said the "document could not be found" and then asked if i wished to locate the file myself, but when I went to do so it said the same thing again. How do I find this file?

Let's go out and come in again!
What version of Word on what Mac running what version of OS X?
Did you give the file a name? In what location did Word last save a file - because that is where it is likely to be.

  • Time machine: I get the following message: The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data-1/Clemens's iMac.sparsebundle" is already in use - what to do? Where and how do I find that file and get rid of it?

time machine: I get the following message: The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/Clemens’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use - what to do? Where and how do I find that file and get rid of it?

I'm on Mountain Lion and have version 6.1 of AirPort utility so there is no button to "Disconnect All Users"and the only other option of "removing and re-selecting the drive via Time Machine Prefs" doesn't work either. So this will work.
Launch Airport Utility and select the TC "Edit" button, then select the Disks tab. Deselect "Enable File Sharing" and click "Update". The TC will reboot then follow the same procedure and reselect "Enable File Sharing" and click "Update". After TC reboots again you'll be up and running. Not the neatest way to do it but saves having to unplug the TC which risks disk damage and the whole procedure takes less than a minute. The "Enable File Sharing" button seems to have replaced the "Disconnect All Users" button but with the slight disadvantage that it reboots the TC which takes up additional time.

  • How do u find itunes files on the computer

how do u find itune files on the computer mine wont load right

They are there as iTunes can't find the files. I get what you want to say. Try to remember if you had a hard drive or USB Stick containg Music? As removing it would cause iTunes to look for it. On a PC the iTunes apps and stuff are in Music>iTunes>iTunes Media

  • HT3275 How do I find/restore files from items in secure home folder? How do I find/restore files that crashed when in finder of secure (File Vault) home folder?

How do I find/restore files from items in secure (File Vault) home folder? How do I find/restore files that crashed when in finder of secure (File Vault) home folder?  When I go into Time Machine, I see earlier dates but can't see files in my User File. I have File Vault turned on and see my home folder as a sparsebundle.  Do I neede to restore this in order to see files in my home folder.  When I click on it to restore it gives me an estimated time of over 2 hours.  Also tried to restore an Excel file I was working on when computer hung, so lost it without saving or naming it.  Does it exist anyplace and can I restore it?

Thanks. I had pretty much figured out from other posts that I had better turn off File Vault for my home folder and use a disk utility sparse bundel for little information I wanted to secure. The information about File Vault 2 in Lion was new and useful though.

  • My scanner saves files to Macintosh HD - Private - tmp - my user name. How do I find these files again?

I am not able to find the files my scanner saves to Macintosh HD - Private - tmp - my user name. How do I find these files again? Once I scan something I have to save as and save it to a differnt location, but there are a few files I scaned and did not save as to a new location. I know they are on my computer somewhere but I can't find them.

Under the Finder, in the Go menu, select Go to Folder ...
    and enter
    /private/var
You will see the tmp folder as well as other folders.
You should be cautious about moving or deleting files inside the /private/var areas because if you do something to the wrong files, your computer may fail to boot. Programs should not be saving files to the /private area that any user needs to access. Something does not sound right about your installation of the scanner.

  • How do i find quicken files on my computer? i was running quicken under fusion and just want the data files

I was running quicken 2010 on my iMac using Fusion.  I upgraded to Lion and my version of Fusion is not capable of running on Lion.  I want to copy my Quicken data files onto portable medium but i can't seem to find them using Finder.  How can I find these files?

As stated, the Quicken files are inside the virtual machine's "hard drive".  If you still have Fusion 3 installed, you might be able to mount the virtual hard drive directly:
Mounting a virtual disk as a Mac OS volume
The catch is that the version of MacFUSE that is installed with the version of Fusion you have may not be working on Lion.  If you're willing, you could update MacFUSE and the mounting of the virtual hard drive will work.
Probably simpler to download and install Fusion 4.  It has a trial mode so if you just need to extract the Quicken documents, you'll be able to at least run the virtual machine for a few days.
Note: If you do run your virtual machine in the trial, but are not planning to purchase Fusion 4, when prompted, do NOT upgrade your virtual machine.  If you do upgrade the virtual machine, you won't be able to start your virtual machine in older versions of Fusion.

  • Safari slow and/or locked up, how do I find .plist file?

Like many others, my office computers' Safari keeps getting locked up when going to different websites & I often have to do a force quit. I've read various posts, and have tried the simple fixes such as to reset Safari. I keep seeing that I should delete .plist file, but how do I find it? I'm told it's located at (tilde symbol) library/preferences, but how do I find that? My Safari drop down menu has Preferences, but not Library. One post said that the file is located in the home folder, but I don't know where the home folder is.
I don't know much about computers, but my job requires that I visit certain websites. (I work in a law office, so it's usually government websites, to download legal forms) Fixing computer problems wasn't on my job description when I was hired, but office staff has now shrunk to one part-time worker, and yours truly is doing what I can to keep the office running. How does a Tech Challenged lady find library/preferences and/or my home folder?

    Hi
What do I do now? Do I trash my old Safari folder, and keep this one with the unwanted bookmarks on that gray section at the top of the window? I'll keep my old Safari on the desktop until I have a chance to check for answers later in the day.
One of the files in that folder is causing the problem.
    Here's my suggestion:
    Quit Safari.
Next, move the History.plist file in the Safari folder on the desktop to the new Safari folder, replacing the newly created file. Restart Safari. If the problem occurs, you found your problem file. In that case, move the remaining files on the desktop back to their original location, replacing the new files. Then, move the History.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari.
By contrast, if Safari is stable after moving the History file, then another file is causing the problem. In that case, return to the Desktop and move the Icons folder found in the Safari folder back to its original location, replacing the newly created one. If Safari problem returns you found the culprit. In that case, you would move the Icon folder to the trash. Then, restart Safari.
Before going further, let me know if that solves the problem.

  • HT5097 How do I find my files after a TC restore using Migration Assistant?

How do I find my TC backup?
My difficulties started with my MacBook Pro going totally dead.  Took it to the Apple Store, where they identified a problem with the RAM.  They fixed it, and also reinstalled Lion, but without my applications - Pages, iPhoto, my documents etc.
When I got back home, I used Migration Assistant, which I found in Utilities, connected to the Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable, and it said at the end that it had transferred all my info.  During the process I had to create another ID.   I added a "1" to my old id, of course...easiest thing to do....and then I changed the Login procedure so I could switch to that user ID.  I'm not sure that worked, because when my MacBook Pro went to sleep, I found the original icon, rather than the one for the name1 name.  So that may be part of the problem, but I don't know.
Anyway, then I entered Time Machine, but all that is there is the last few days/hours of activity.
I don't know much about computers, but I think that the new name1 user ID and the restored data may be linked somewhere and if I could just find it perhaps this would get resolved.
I can see the applications now, but when I look for, for example, Pages documents, there is nothing there.  Ditto for iPhoto.  For iPhoto I also tried file>import, which brought in some old files from MobileMe, but not the photos I had on my MacBook.
I would prefer not to have the name/name1 and just have everything back as it was, but I don't know how to do that either.
Hope someone can help me!  Many thanks!!!

Never mind!  I finally figured out - duh - that if I logged out and then logged in under the new name1 ID, I could find everything!  HOOORAY!
