How do I find shots or clips captured in FCE?

I open FCE and capture a clip using Capture Now. In the Browser I name the clip. I save the project in a folder on the desktop. Later on, when I want to find the clip, my G4 (OS 10.3.9) can't find it. I've tried Find in the finder and by opening a folder and asking a question with the name of the clip. When I look in Capture Scratch, the clip is not there. The only way I can find it is to open the FCE project I captured it with.
Maybe I am making an error in how I name the clip?
Would appreciate comments.

Look inside a folder called "Final Cut Express Document"
Your captured clip will be found in a subfolder called "capture".
Otherwise, look in your browser and select item properties (with contextual menu), to see the full path name for your clip file.
Beware: Do not change your captured clip name in the finder, or you'll lose "the connection" between captured clip and his reference in the browser. Thus you can safely rename your clip in the FCE browser.
Your file project is a simple reference file who tolds to FCE where to take clip parts to build your movie.
It may be saved anywhere, but it's usual (and give better performance in some case) to store it on a disk, and your clip files on another disk.

[FCP S2] How to make each scene a clip when capturing video?

Hi,
I'm totally new to Final Cut Pro and have recently purchased my Mac Pro and FCP Studio 2. I come from background of Pinnacle Studio on PC and so this seems like a huge leap.
Any way, With Pinnacle Studio, when capturing video it automatically made each scene (point between Start rec and Stop rec on Video Camera) into a clip. I could then drag&drop the clips I wanted into my project timeline. I can tnen eaily add transitions inbetween these clips in my time line.
Now with FCP S2, it seems to capture the video as one long clip and apparently, as I've been told, the only way to separate each scene is to manually cut at the point of a scene cut. Now I can't believe that $1200 software would make you do that and $99 software does this automatically. So I have come here in the hope to find an expert who can explain to me, in very simple terms and steps, how I can achieve this in FCP S2.
Any help will be much appreciated.

How to Avoid Capturing Clips with Timecode Breaks
The “On timecode break” pop-up menu in the General tab of the User Preferences
window gives you several ways to avoid capturing clips with timecode breaks. It’s
important to set this option to suit the way you intend to capture your clips. You have
several options:
Â Make New Clip: This is the default option. Video that’s already been captured before
the break in timecode is saved as a single media file, with its Out point set to the
frame occurring immediately before the timecode break. Final Cut Pro then
automatically continues capturing video after the dropped timecode frame as a
second media file. When this option is selected, clips captured after timecode breaks
are named with the original name and the number of the clip. For example, if the
first captured clip’s name is “Cats Playing,” the second clip’s name is set to “Cats
Playing-1.”
This is a good option to choose if you are capturing an entire tape. For example,
suppose you are capturing the entire contents of a 60-minute tape that has four
timecode breaks. Instead of restarting the capture every time a timecode break is
detected, Final Cut Pro captures all media from the tape as five clips, skipping over each
timecode break and ensuring that the timecode of all captured media is frame-accurate.

How do I find the source where a clip is stored?

I have a new Mac PRo but the files are in several different HDs attached. Which one has the file?
I can see the clips in the imported mclips but how do I find them on the drives from FCX? I want to put them in one of the HD's under an FCX file.

Selecting a clip in the timeline and hitting shift-F will show the source clip
Selection in the browser. Right clicking any clip
And choosing Reveal In Finder will show the path.

How can I find out the overall time and not only the time of a single clip?

I have set up two cameras in one room. Both cameras record the same thing from different perspectives at the same time. I have found an interesting scene for video 1 (recorded by camera 1). Now I would like to find the time at which the interesting scene takes place in video 2.
However, I have not seen any way to get displayed, at what time the scene starts in relation to the total length of the video (e.g: scene starts after 5 minutes from total 10 minutes).
The indicated time refers only to a part of the clip and not to the overall project, even if a special clip is not selected. Does anyone know, how I can find out the time?

Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup. It will be shown just below the Back Up Now button at the bottom.

I have the following issue i'm trying to understand.
My test 2-way streams setup (10.2.0.3 on windows) was stopped/broken for some weeks. I got around to starting to fix it yesterday. Since then its been sat there scanning through logs starting from the 21st of May 2007 (and still on the 21st). There are large number of messages being captured queued and propagated (8378901+ at the mo). This would make some sense if there had been constant changes going through for the past weeks but there haven't. I've created and dropped a table, inserted a couple of rows, and maybe created an index but thats it.
So what is going on?
Is there a way to peek into the queues and see the contents of these messages?
How do I find out what its doing and why?

Why has the Reload button shrunk and shot to the end of the URL window? How will I find out when the Favloc plugin works in V4?

I had installed Firefox 4, but rapidly had to backtrack to 3.6, then again to 3.5. Two reasons: 1. The three toolbar buttons I use most are Back, Forward and Reload. In 3.5 I can group these nicely at the left hand end; in 4 the Reload button has shrunk and shot across to the end of the URL bar. Why?
2. Versions 3.6 and 4 are incompatible with the Favloc plugin. This is such a brilliant plugin you ought to buy the code and build it in. I am marooned in 3.5 until this plugin works in V4 - running 3.5, how will I find out when it does?

I've had a look at the TC settings dialog and tried to keep it as simple as possible. I also had a copy of LR 4 on the hard drive so have trashed that also incase of any conflicts. LR seems to be running ok now but as said it's an intermittent problem.
I also have a copy of Capture One on the hard drive so am going to uninstall that also in case it is trying to launch.

Do you mean you want it saved with the resolution set to something other than 72 dpi when the capture is made, or do you mean you want your capture saved at a higher resolution than the captured area?
1) If the first, there are ways to change the default capture format .png to something else, such as .jpg, .tif and a few others, but as far as I know, the resolution will always be 72 dpi. You can use Preview to change the resolution of the captured image under Tools > Adjust Size. You will get this:
If your intention is to set the resolution for professional printing defaults, then change the resolution to 300. Turn off Resample image to prevent the image from actually having more pixels added. The resolution will simply be reset from 72 to 300 dpi without changing the actual number of pixels in the image. It will also print a lot smaller since the output device will now use 300 pixels per linear inch instead of 72.
Leave Resample image on if you need to maintain the dimensions. Be aware however that scaling the image (resampling) will add a lot more pixels to the image than are there to maintain size. Expect the image to get very soft and pixelated looking when adding 417% more data to the image than it currently has.
2) If you mean you want the OS to actually save the captured area as a high resolution image at size, that can't happen. A capture is a 1:1 grab of the display buffer. It can only capture what's there. So if you capture a 700 pixel x 500 pixel area, that's all the bigger it can be without scaling it afterwards.

How do I reorganise shots in Colors setup/shots browser

I'm just working out how to create, delete and use groups of shots in the shots browser (within the setups tab). Having played around a bit, I now a totally disorganised layout of shot icons. Is there any way to automatically reorganise these icons so that, for example, they are sorted back to their timeline order?
I appreciate that I could do this manually but was just wondering. Thanks.

How do I train Slippery Audio Clips?

I'm guessing this one has an easy answer. When I have the audio track open and I wish to lay down a piece of audio under video (I've already extracted the audio and it's a stand alone piece of audio), I place the playhead where I want the piece of audio to appear, but when I click "paste" the piece of audio always ends up a few inches (or a few shots) away from the playhead (so I have to "inch" it back to its proper place using the playhead). Why does this happen and how can I paste audio clips exactly where I want them?

Interestingly, today I needed to copy and paste an audio clip, and it pasted quite close to the original. Last night, all the pasted clips ended up near the end of the movie.
I find that the clips can be dragged fairly quickly if dragged to the edge of the iMovie window, but if you do that too quickly, your clip will suddenly end up far to the left of where you want it.
It took me several attempts to achieve better control when moving a clip, but it is not the ideal solution.

hi there, I have captured some clips. when I drag them to the timeline, it says "these clips dont match your settings, do you want to convert them to your current settings". I have to say yes. Trouble is, I look at the "item properties" on the clip inside the browser, and it is the same as the clip I put onto the timeline (which supposedly got changed when I dragged it to the timeline). What settings are conflicting and where do I find out?
My capture is set to HD using the HD 72030 codec. I filmed on my HD setting with the 30p frame rate. Is there something wrong with that setting? Please help! I appreciate anyone's help.

Hi again... sure. My camera is a Canon XH-A1s set to HD and 30F frame rate. I am not using the on-board mic, but an add-on mic (NTG-1) which has it's XLR input set correctly to ch1/ch2.

Ok, now after I dragged it down to the timeline and the msg came up and it was "converted", the properties are all the same EXCEPT for info about the audio.
Audio: blank
Aud Rate: interestingly, A1 has 48.0KHz but A2 has that same 48.0KHz greyed out
Aud Format: blank and again A1 has 16-bit integer, but A2 has 16-bit integer greyed out
also, on the timeline, there are 2 audio tracks but there is a small pink triangle at the beginning and the end. I moused over that triangle but I don't know what it is.

How do I find what is taking up all the space in my iMovie library?

If I find the my iMovie library in Finder, it's total size is a reported 15.59GB and, as far as I can tell, I cannot open it in Finder to see what files are taking up that space.
If I look at my iMovie library in iMovie, it apparently contains one event, which contains one movie.
If I select the move as then go to File -> Reveal in Finder, I can see all the folders and files associated with the event and they come to a grand total of 5.95 GB.
So, how do I find out what movies, clips or projects are taking up the other ~ 10GB in the iMovie library folder?
I'm using iMovie 10.0.5

When I did that, I could still only see the same contents as shown in the third screenshot above. However, minutes after doing the "Show package contents", iMovie seems to have figured out that it didn't have 15GB of data in its library after all and updated its size accordingly. So, problem solved for now but I still find iMovie to be painful to use and I will probably avoid doing so as much as I can.
