How do I find total number of songs in my library in the new iTunes 11?

Last version of iTunes showed the total number of songs within the library on the bottom of the screen. Now that's disappeared and I don't know where to find that piece of info.
Any suggestions?

Click View>Show Sidebar
It looks about like the old version.
Or you can simply click your ipod name at the top of your screen and sync as always.
The new version is not that different from the old one

When I click on the little box on the upper left corner, the only adding option I see is "Add File to Library", and what I want to do is add the entire folder in which I keep all my music.

You can drag a folder in as before, or turn on the menu bar with Ctrl-b, or make it appear temporarily with Alt.

If you are talking about the Hard Drive, click on the Hard Disk on your Desktop to highlight it and then from the Finder menu > File select *Get Info*. You can also press Command + i to get the same dialogue box to open.
There you will see, the Capacity of the Hard drive, how much is used and how much free space remains.
If you are talking about the RAM, that shows in the first opening window of System Profiler.

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

I was at the Apple store today and one of their "geniuses" confirmed it is not possible to shuffle songs in one specific genre. He had not noticed this himself, and after trying to do it on my iPod, he tried it on his iPhone, and that did not work either. He told me the best he could do was tell his boss. This of course, does not help much, but we can always hope they fix the issue sometime soon.

Do you mean remove them from the iPod or transfer them back to your computer? You can't transfer photo's back to the computer with iTunes. To retrieve photos from an iPod try:

To remove individual photos from an iPod you delete or remove the photo from the folder that you linked to when you set the preference "synch photos from" and update the iPod. For example, if the iPod is getting the pictures from the folder "My Pictures," delete or remove them from My Pictures.

Ctrl / or View > Show Status Bar should do it.
Weirdly having turned mine on the menu is not there to hide it again and the shortcut doesn't work.

I just backed up my library on a new external hard drive and noticed that all my media is doubled up. Aside from going through each item is there a way to do this on the latest version of itunes. Until then you will have to resort to sorting by a particular label such as artist and manually scanning, third party utilities such as Dougscripts Dupin to deal with duplicates, or revert back to iTunes 10.7.
Somewhere you're not doing something correctly. Backing up a library should not produce duplicates. There's no way it can.

"Add Folder to Library" is still in the file menu, but you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the file menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
