How do I fix a FINDER crash problem in 10.6.8
I recently, in the last 10 days, started having a FINDER crash problem with my iMac 24" (iMac9,1) Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz computer.
I have 4 GB of ram installed, no external hard disks installed.
It seems to crash when I have five or more applications open, but it is not consistant.
When it freezes or crashes, I get the spinning ball. I open the Force Quit Window with comand, option, escape and it show Finder not responding.
I click on Finder and tell it to relaunch. It does nothing. At that point I cannot even go to the APPLE icon on the dock and do a shutdown or restart.
From that point on, I have to press and hold the START button to shut the computer down.
I have checked the hard disk integrity with Disk Utility after starting on the Snow Leopard 1.6 install disk. everything shows good.
I have repaired permissions using the same application. I then restart the computer and log back in.
I have used Onyx for Snow Leopard version 2.3.1 to do some maintenance routines.
I have checked the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive and it passes.
I have verified that the Daily, Weekly, Monthly routines have been run. They have.
I have executed the Cleaning tab to include the following cache files:

Short of taking this computer, packing it up, and hauling it down to the Apple Store for the 'Genius' to poke around in it, I am at a brick
wall as to what to do next. (I am useing this same computer to enter this message).
Here's hoping someone on the forum will have an answer.

P.S. Does APPLE Technicians ever read these discussion questions and interject their 'Expert' knowledge?
/Library/Preferences is where you will find that file.

Why is my iPhones volume silent only between the hours of 8pm and 7am when the night selection isn't selected? How can I fix my iPhone 4 problem?
May be you have turned the DO NO DISTURB in your iphone settings.
Check as below DND settings
Settings>>Do Not Disturb
If you are iPhone is on version iOS 5.X there was a bug which does not let the DO NOT DISTURB function properly.
SO, its better you to latest iOS version 7.0.4, no other versions of iOS are signed by APPLE hence forth. -
How can I fix repetitive 'fontd' crashes after recovery from time machine backup?
After recovery from time machine backup (Disk Utility told me to reformat my internal hard drive) i got annoying repetitive prompts from crashing 'fontd'. How can I fix it? Anyone suffering from the same disease?
Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions. -

A fix for the crash problem.
Firefox has been extremely annoying on an XP machine with it's constant crash reports requiring uninstall and reinstall several times till it starts working again. However, periodically repairing Firefox was worth the headache for the benefit of Firefox’s performance. Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 was installed hoping it contained the fix for the crash report problem; it didn't. BUT, the new crash report post-mortum file list provides another means to identify a probable cause. The file list was discovered after about the third crash and it was noted that Firefox was attempting to load an internet filter dll file from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM instead of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 which had the correct version. Evidently, the internet filter program update placed the newer version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and did nothing with the older version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or the registry mapping. A copy of the newer version dll was placed in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and it has been smooth sailing with Firefox ever since. Thanks for adding the post –mortum file list; it provided a means to identify and fix the problem. Firefox is working great and the snail’s pace Internet Explorer 8 has been retired. Thanks again!
''Problem:'' For whatever reason, NoScript is stopping Runescape Community Toolbar from working properly which freezes your first Firefox window.
''Fix:'' Uninstall the toolbar. Disable NoScript. Install the toolbar. Add your RS account to it and make sure it works, then Enable NoScript again.
EDIT: Posted a fix earlier that was wrong. Corrected to the right one, sorry ^_^ Answer was on Runescape Forums. -
How do I fix the iTunes permission problem - album folder is read-only?
Hi,
When I imported music files from Windows iTunes library, I set iTunes to copy the files to its own library folder and had "keep music folder organized" checked. So it creates a folder for each album by the album name. But recently since last time I ran the "repair permission" from DIsk Utility, every time I change album name, I lose the access to the folder. The permission is set to read-and-write for "system" instead of "me". So I can no longer edit the song (tag). But the rests of the folders and main iTunes library are just fine (with read-and-write permission to "me"). My account is admin.
I figured out a workaround for the problem. I can copy the folder to a location I own (such as desktop), then bring it back to iTunes to replace the folder. But I certainly don't want to do that every time I change album names. How do I fix the problem? Running permission repair does not help.
My mac experience started on the day Leopard was released, so please help.
Thank you.You should be able to select the folder, Get Info (command-I, the command key is the one with the Apple and the funny squiggly thing next to the space bar). At the very bottom of the Get Info box is Sharing and Permissions. You may have to click on the triangle to open up that section. You should be able to change permissions from there if you have admin access. You may also need to click on the little padlock in the lower right and put in your password before you can make changes. If you want to apply the changes you made to folders inside the folder, click on the little button with the gear on it and select Apply to enclosed items.
Best of luck. -

That is correct. That is Activation Lock, the antitheft feature of the iPhone. Only the person who registered the old Apple ID and has the password can unlock it. -
How do i fix this billing account problem?

This kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
#run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
#update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
#enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic extension, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all your extensions (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all;
#you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons.
Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
#do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
#disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix your issues with Firefox, proceed;
#check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable them to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't work, proceed to the following point;
#clean up your OS registry, using appropriate software. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly. -
How do I fix PowerPoint 2004 crashes?
Dear all, here is my problem:
Out of the blue, my power point (2004 w/ updates on MacOS 10.3.9) opens fine but keeps crashing when I try to open any existing ppt file (that were just fine previously and open on any other pc incl. windows machines) or newly created files upon saving. For what it's worth, I attached the crash report. Anybody have any idea why it happens and how to fix it? I did not install any new software that might cause conflicts, and yes, I did try reinstalling the whole office suite plus updates to no avail.
Thanks!!! Hans

HT201262 How do I fix "NDSPCShowServer quit unexpectedly" problem?
I attempted to install DirecTV online viewer and the pop-up reoccurs every few seconds with a message indicating "Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple. If I click "Reopen" the message just pops up again and I cannot get this to stop popping up if I select ignore. I searched Applications in "Finder" to try and remove "NDSPCShowServer" but it isn't listed. I don't know what this application is or how to fix this problem. I was using Google Chrome when the problem occurred (not sure if this matters) This has never happened before. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Found the answer on another thread...I'm not sure how to delete this post.

How do I get a macbook crash problem diagnosed by apple
I have a MacBook air Late 2010 which started crashing on a regular basis. The computer just goes off and I have to reboot it; it sometimes happen over 5 times in a single day. My MacBook has a 3 years extended guarantee.
How do I get my MacBook diagnosed by Apple? Must I make an apointment or can I just show up in any store and get it diagnosed? Will Apple change my MacBook straight away in the event that it can not be repaired on the spot? My issue is that I can not afford not having my computer away for more than a day.
Thank youSince you have AppleCare, you could start by contacting Apple support via phone. Or you can schedule an appointment with an Apple Genius at a store (that can be done online) or you could go to the store and wait for someone to free up. Apple generally does not replace computers unless they have an issue that they've tried and failed to fix after multiple times.
It sounds like you may be getting kernel panics, which are typically caused by hardware, but can also be caused by software. Apple support can look at the panic logs to see what is causing the problem. Do you recall installing new software just prior to when the crashing started? -
