How do I fix an Itunes Library (Damaged) on a Mac with all current software and udates?

I have lost my main Itunes Library.  I have one now that came straight from the music in my phone.  All playlist are gone.  75 gigs of music are gone.  the only music availible to me is the music that was in my phone.  down to 15 gigs  I have found a file that says "Itunes Library (Damaged)" but I can't do anything with it.  Of course Mac wants $ to fix it.  Is there anything I can do to remedy this disaster?  Running Imac with OS X 10.8.2, Iphone 4 w/ios6  and original Ipad with all updates.  The Iphone seems normal but is missing all playlist.  It reorganized the music.  The Ipad has no music and over half the Apps have disappeared.
HHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLPPPPPP!   Please!

Assuming you have AVG then yes, a second patch has apparently been released to day which may resolve the issue. See this post for general advice.
If you don't see the .itl file extension then don't add it to the filename of the renamed file.
iTunes Library 2012-09-22.itl > iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Library 2012-09-22 > iTunes Library
My advice has generally been aimed at Windows users, but if you have AVG on a Mac and that too suffers from this issue then it is worth nothing that at one point the iTunes Library on a Mac was stored without any extension. If you match the name of the empty library file you are replacing it should work.

  • How do I move my iTunes library from an older Mac to a newer one, and have it show up on my iPad and iPhone?

I have an iTunes library on an old G4 QuickSilver that I want to move to my MacBook Pro, and have some of the albums and songs sync-up with iCloud so I can access them on my iPhone and iPad.  A lot of the albums and songs on the G4 machine were uploaded via CD, not purchased from iTunes.

You can move iTunes music files in the same way you would transfer any other file (thumb drive, external hard drive, etc.).  Simply move them to your new computer and add them to your iTunes library (File --> "Add To Library").

Install iTunes 9.2.1 on your computer. If the device's requirements specify iTunes 10 or newer, you need to purchase Mac OS X 10.5 on DVD.

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • How can I transfer my iTunes Library back onto my mac?

    Hi there,
Up until recently I had a 2006 17" iMac and 500gb Time Capsule. I transfered my entire 140gb iTunes library onto the Time Capsule and made it the default location for all of my music, videos and apps due to the fairly small HD on the Mac.
I recently bought a new Mac with a 500gb HD and I would like to transfer the iTunes library and change the location back onto the computer again. This would enable me to format the Time Capsule, (which has been playing up) and use it for back-ups through Time Machine...something that it hasn't been able to do for some time.
I would be very grateful for some advice on this, as I don't want to risk losing any of my music files and I'm no expert!
Thanks in advance for any help!

It does seem to depend on the version of itunes you run..
Best asking in the itunes area.. as this is not really a TC issue.
But i would strongly recommend you do an archive to a usb drive of the present contents of the TC.. as they can die suddenly and without recourse.. and it is a sealed unit without spares or parts available.. Apple will offer no help.. although we do fix them that will cost you and it is probably time for a new one.

  • HT1349 how do I restore my itunes library music?  I was backing up my ipods and now half of my music can not be located.  please help

I was backing up my ipods this weekend.  After I was done backing them all up I noticed that there was a circular symbol with an exclamation mark inside near some of my songs.  When I click on the songs it tells me that the original file can not be located.  I press the locate button on the message that appears but I can not find the song.  How do I find my music or restore the music to my library.  Please help!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • How to recover from an "iTunes Library Damaged" error message?

When I looged on this morning, I recevied an error messages saying that my iTunes library was damaged. It asked if I wanted to save a "(DAMAGED)" version of the library. I said yes, and now iTunes comes up blank...no songs, no playlists, nothing. I have located the file marked (DAMAGED) but I can't figure out how to get my library to load up in iTunes with all my playlists, etc. Anyone help me...My iPods/iTunes for Dummies Book and The iTunes for Windows Book just aren't helping.
I don't want to hook my iPod up in fear of losing all my songs on it.
Anyone have ideas on how to fix this...hoping not to have to load all the songs 1 by 1, as that would hurt!

  • How can I fix my iTunes library? It doesn't have the right music on it like my iPod.

My problem began when my laptop had to be restored to it's original settings (factory) so it whipped out everything. I went to install iTunes (newest version) which I did not have prirror to the restoration. I went to my Library to listen to music and add music and it was my old library from when I first got my iTunes account. My iPod has the right library that I want and I need to know how I can fix this ASAP. My iPod has the same account on it as what my account on my laptop is logged on as. Need to know how to fix this! Thank you!

If you have no other back up and if your move to the external drive was unsuccessful and the music you thought you moved isn't actually there then there really is nowhere to recover your music from. There are data recovery services and programs that you could investigate to see if they can mine the information back from your reformatted MacBook but they aren't going to be a cheap option. So you have to decide if in your particular circumstances it's worth it to get your songs back. It may be if you have a lot of purchased tracks which you will have to pay to download again. If they came primarily from your CDs then it's most likely not as you can re-rip them.
If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from (as you are advised to do) then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
If you have an iPod that still has the purchases on it the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
