How do I fix Hard drive errors on my macbook pro?

I ran the etrecheck software on my Macbook Pro and it produced the following results. It says there are 15 errors with the hard drive and I was wondering how I can figure out what they are and possibly find a solution to get rid of them. I have used the disk utility to verify and repair permissions and to verify the disk and the only issue i get during that is this warning during verifying permissions:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
I also should mention my computer has been running slower than normal lately.
Another point is that there is a user launch agent that fails and I was wondering if I need it and how I can fix or get rid of it.
If anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you,
Joe

  • How will an external Hard drive designed for the macbook Pro work with my White Macbook?  My  white macbook has a Firewire 400 and the G-Tech HD has a 800 to 400 compatible cable for the firewire.

I am asking this because I want the G-Tech Hard drive  says that it is designed for the macbook pro.  Yet, I want to back up faster with by using my firewire 400 which is not an option on the one designed for the white macbook that does not have a firewire (only a USB port.)  The G-Tech Hard drive comes with the 800 to 400 compatible cable and has 5400 RPM with 750 GB.  Also, I've heard that laptops with low battery (mine all the time)  won't have the power for a bus powered Hard drive (as in no ac plug in adaptor.)  Can I just plug in my laptop?  Any one know the answers from experience with this hard drive?

As far as I know, if a harddrive works with a Macpro, it should work with the Macbook: if your Macbook is low on power, plug in the AC adapter
If your Macbook has a firewire port, then it should be fine. BUt i would do somemore research first.

How can I fix a time error on my MacBook?

If, after checking the settings in Sys Pref> Date/Time nothing really changes
you could see if a reset of the NVRAM could help.
Read carefully & when using the keyboard sequence, let the computer
start tone sound three times, to be sure the reset has really occurred.
    •About NVRAM & PRAM:

Does the time gain by itself? Is the Time Server set to automatically
keep the computer time corrected when you are online? You may
also try the manual settings, if the computer had not been used in
some time, because if the battery gets too low, the capacitor in a
portable computer can also lose power, & NVRAM - PRAM chip
settings could be lost. However by then, Date can also be wrong.
Was there anything else going on that may have affected this?

how do i transfer files from an external hard drive to a new macbook pro?

thank you.  i did that with my old computer, and it saved it as a whole other computer on my new macbook.  now if i do the same for the external hard drive, i guess it will save it as another separate computer on the new one.  so i guess what i should have asked is, is there any way to copy my whole old computer and external, but have the files integrated into the new mac, so i don't have to log in and out of 3 computers just to use my old programs or to see pictures or movies or files from the past.  ???  and i now have the apple tv and i have to turn on my macbook and log into the old computer to see certain old files and pictures or home movies????  there has to be an easier way???

  • Can anyone enlighten me as to how I can transfer data from an extracted hard drive off of a Macbook Pro onto a new Retina model? No SATA port!!!

    Hello,
I'm trying to transfer data from my old hard drive (taken out of Macbook Pro 2009) onto a new Macbook Pro Retina.  My ignorance is vast and I purchased an eSATA device to do so, not thinking that there is no SATA port on this new computer.  Is there a special cable or anything anyone can recommend?  I'd be very grateful for some help here.

I would just get a cheap USB enclosure from OWC, put your old drive in it, and use it it transfer the data to your new rMBP. Cheap and simple. The one I spec'ed is for a USB 3.0 enclosure as you have USB 3.0 ports on your computer - much faster than USB 2.0.

I get error 6. I would like to get my software up and running on the laptop again please

If you subscribed to iTunes match the songs are kept in icloud. If you didn't but you did save the actual iTunes library folder which should include the music, video, etc.  you should be able to just drag this file back to your machine in the same place and when you open iTunes it will give you a chance to identify the iTunes library folder.
You can test this to find out if you saved the media files or not and don't need to attach your nano to do it.
You are correct that once you connect the nano it will clear the existing files from it and sync it with the new iTunes library.
If you don't have the media files i'm not sure if/how to get them back on a windows ipod.  I have everything backed up regularly because of the horror stories I have seen & heard.

  • I erased my hard drive and now my Macbook pro won't boot

I bought a new macbook pro the other day, so I decided to erase the hard drive on my 2010 Macbook pro and reinstall my OS cleanly. I erased the hard drive and tried an internet recovery. It downloaded the recovery and would not boot. Tried resetting everything you could name of and it doesn't help. Can't get anywhere with command R, it just freezes. Safe mode won't boot. Command V, eventually ends with an error saying to return to old smc. I pulled the hard drive out and put it in another mac from about the same year and through internet recovery, actually loaded OS Lion back on it. I put it back in the problem mac, and it just freezes at the apple logo and spinning wheel. Can't understand why erasing the hard drive would effect any hardware, but maybe it messed with logic board somehow? I've now tried using the Recovery partition, since OS Lion was loaded on the drive, but it freezes there as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Are you sure it came with Lion?
Check out the support page for what build shipped with which OS.

  • Is it possible to increase the hard drive capacity on my Macbook Pro?

is it possible to increase the hard drive capacity on my Macbook Pro?

If you feel confident, you can do it yourself.
If not, Apple can do it for the small matter of money.
    If you go to http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
Find you Mac on this page it has videos that show you how to replace the disk drive.
After you view the video then you can make your mind up as to which is the correct way for you to go.

  • My hard drive crashed on my macbook pro and I had a new one installed and they were unable to get my pictures off of it. Is there anyone who could help? I'm going to lose all my memories of my kids! I got my old hard drive

My hard drive crashed on my macbook pro so i had a new one installed and they couldn't get my pictures off. I dont want to lose all my memories! They gave me back my old hard drive. Is there anyone that could help me?

I think how you understand the value of having backups. All you can do is:
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
You will need an external enclosure for the old drive so you can connect it to the computer in order to try the recovery software before you buy it. But if they don't work then you will need to send the drive to a recovery service such as Drive Savers.

  • Transferring data from external hard drive to new replacement Macbook Pro...

    Hello,
Apple have arranged to give me a replacement Macbook Pro due to faults with hardware on the one I am currently using. I will be going to pick up the replacement Macbook Pro tomorrow morning.
As a complete novice I just wanted to check that I have backed up the data from my current laptop onto my Iomega external hard drive properly, as I am slightly nervous about losing all my work and not being able to transfer all my files onto my new Macbook Pro tomorrow.
I did a back up using time machine earlier today which took quite a long time and seemed to go successfully. Is this the right thing to have done to save all data from my current laptop onto the external hard drive?
Will transferring data from the external hard drive onto my new Macbook Pro be a simple task?
Will I have to reinstall all my software such as Logic and Pro Tools? Also will my preferences and settings for music software be changed?
    I'd greatly appreciate any advice.
    Thanks,
    Deena

    Well it's like this.
If your problem on the Mac didn't affect the software or the TimeMachine backup, then restoring from that using SetupAssistant (when you first set up a new Mac it will ask you to restore) should go fine.
HOWEVER, if there are software issues on the Mac that also transferred to the TimeMachine drive, that will only transfer them back onto your new computer.
You can't very easily just pick out the things you want to restore from TimeMachine with, it doesn't give that fine detail of control, and if it's really messed up, it might not restore anything at all.
The golden rule of backups is to maintain two separate and easily accessible hardware copies of your data off the machine at all times.
Since you don't know for sure if the TimeMachine restore is going to work as intended, and your only other source is going to disappear, I'd advise a additional backup of your Music, Documents, Pictures and Movie folders etc., to another regular external drive via regular drag and drop copy methods.
The operating system and programs can all be reinstalled from fresh sources on the new machine, provided you have the AppleID and password, license codes for your programs, email passwords and any other necessary information to re-establish the license on the new machine.
(In some cases licensed software HAS NOT transferred to a new machine with a TimeMachine restore and had to be reinstalled)
Some times you have to contact the developer or "uninstall" the licensed program so it sends a signal to their servers that the program has been removed, else your license code may not work on the new machine.
You might decide the new machine would be better off with a fresh install of your programs that you know are 100% compatible with Lion etc., leaving a lot of older stuff you installed over the years off the new machine, if you restore from TimeMachine, you don't have this option. You pretty much get all the crap along for the ride,
If your new machine gets all crapped up, then restoring Lion is going to going to be a tough challenge, as you need a strong reliable Internet connection to download a fresh copy of Lion from Apple servers (no more disks). Once you do that, then somehow you have to use third party software ($$) to cherry pick your files out of TimeMachines trap. More headaches than you anticpated, and likely a charge by a specialist.
So I'd advise another hard drive with a copy of just your files, just in case a crap-up occurs
You can restore Lion yourself if it craps up, install programs from fresh sources as you know how to do, use the old license codes and then return your files manually exactly back into their same Music, Pictures, Documents, and Movies (etc, not Library) folders as before.
The key to this manual method is to make sure to use the same user name as before, so all your file location data pathnames retained by program files like iTunes to where the songs are located on the drive, are matched. Once you open these programs and restablish the links in OS X, then you can move them around.
Some tricks, if you use iPhoto, you can right click "show package contents" and inside is a folder with your Originals, copy that out and you can reimport your pictures into the new iPhoto Library on the new machine.
So use TM if you dare, but prepared to do things manually is my opinion.
TM restores have not been all that reliable or dependable, the more messed up your machine is, the worst the restore seems to be.
    Good Luck

I just bought a MBA and I need to move my photos and itunes to an external hard drive (from my old MacBook Pro) because they won't fit on the Air.  I got the photos moved fine and I followed an online tutorial to move the necessary files for itunes, but it didn't work.  The files copied fine, but when I tell iTunes on the Air to look at the external drive for the library, it doesn't find anything.  What I copied was the entire iTunes Media folder.  So, how do I move the necessary iTunes files from my old Pro to a external drive so I can access them from my new Air?  Whew!

iTunes- How to move the library to an EHD
After you move the library you need to open iTunes by first depressing the OPTION key then launching iTunes. You will be given a choice of which library to use. This can then be made a permanent change, if you wish, in the Advanced section of iTunes preferences.

  • Iphoto external hard drive transfer to erased macbook pro does not look like my orgirinal

While on an Apple Care phone call, the tech had me erase my hard drive when logging me in as a test user did not fix the problem.
Mountain Lion is reinstalled but when I transferred my iPhoto Library from the external hard drive to my laptop, rather than putting in the 297 events & 11,292 photos that were on it, it put on some 48,000 photos and very few of my events are still original. Some photos show up 4 times, some randomly, some together.
It also has done strange cropping things with other photos, part of a face or objects shows up as if it had been cropped, it is a self-induced cropping. Very strange indeed. Information under the photos show lots of different letters and numbers that are foreign.
So, should I return to the Apple store? This is the second logic that has been put in in the month of December. One on December 12, picked it up on the 18th and it failed. Returned it and another logice board was put in. Is this a software problem, they re-installed Mountain Lion on December 30th.
Any help would be most appreciated. Hoping to not have to make another trip to Apple. Thanks.

I imported all info from the external hard drive to the new MacBook Pro. Seems most all data transferred ok.
Exactly what did you do? With iPhoto there is no "importing" involved - you simply drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the pictures folder of the new machine and launch iPhoto letting it convert as needed
With the following exception with iPhoto application,
You would do nothing with the iPhoto application - you use the new iPhoto application installed on yoru new system - you only move the iPhoto library as noted above
You can try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library
