How do I fix M4P music files that stop suddenly on my new computer?

So I purchased a windows laptop and transferred my music from my mac mini to the new system and a large number of my music files - that I purchased from the Itunes store- now stop suddenly.  The files all appear to be m4p files...how do I repair the files?  I tried to download my purchased music again, but I tunes displays the songs as downloaded and will not allow me to initiate this action.  Any help is apppreciated!!

You have to delete the current copy from the library before you can download a replacement,

ok so to cut a long story short my itunes account was on a laptop that broke, managed to get photo and music file backed up onto hard drive.
Can i just log into my itunes account on a new pc to sync andbackup my iphone? or do i need to transfer my music file into the account?
    Really need some help!
I have an iphone, Ipod and the account on the old laptop.

"I don't have the old computer. It overheated and literally melteddown!"
This is why it has alwasy been very basic to always maintain a backup copy.
Did you fail to do this?
"I have been talked through a back up process of the itouch music  on to the new laptop before, but can't remember how to do it. Any ideas on this process."
    Again.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Transfer Purchases
You may be able to buy a 3rd party program to get non-itunes purchased music from the ipod.

You should have a backup but if not you will need to transfer the contents before you sync or it will be erased.
    Transfer music purchased from iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
For other music you will require a 3rd party program

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

The page Roger posted is good but was very confusing for me. I'll try to help you out since that article was confusing to me.
In iTunes, Click your name/email that is directly to the left of the search bar.
    Click account info.
Click this button where the mouse is:
(the screenshot is from an older iTunes on windows, but it is the same on the new versions)
    Done!
You can only use that button once per year, so try to remember to deauthorize computers before you get rid of them.

  • ITunes, music files from external dr F to new computer dr C... problems?

I currently have a setup with an older computer and external hard drive, but will be getting a new computer in the near future. That is to say, I have not yet encountered a problem, but am anticipating one.
As it is, iTunes is installed on the old computer, and the library of songs and videos is all on the external hard drive.
I will be wanting to install iTunes on the new computer, and put the entire library on that computer as well.
I understand that moving a library between computers can be fairly simple, just as long as you keep the path the same. I expect that moving everything from C:\Program Files\iTunes on one computer to C:\Program Files\iTunes to a new computer would be quite easy. However, since the library currently points to files on drive F, the external harddrive, I am wondering if there will be a problem when I dump my library onto the new computer's drive C? If so, how can I get around this?
    I'll try saying it another way;
currently, my directories are like so:
    iTunes Folder - C:\Program Files\iTunes
    Library - F:\iPod
and what I want, when I get a new computer:
    iTunes Folder - C:\Program Files\iTunes
    Library - C:\Program Files\iTunes\library

First of all, about the moving the 'program files\itunes' directly: don't do it. Install iTunes properly.
    Then do this:
Copy the contents of 'iTunes Music' within My Music to the same location on the new computer.
Then connect the external drive and start up iTunes. It should appear identical to the way it did on the old computer.
Then use these directions to move them to My Music or anywhere else you want:

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer ther music by:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
Note t transfer iTunes purchases you have to know the account ID and password for the account that purchased them.  Also, if you did not purchase the music, you are not entitled to use the music.

  • How do I unlock protected music files that I purchased?

How do I recover files that are in the library but are protected that I purchased?  Some will play on my PC and some wont.

... it states that the computer is authorized but when I attempt to play a song on the PC the dialogue box for authorization pops up and after filling in the info says PC is authorized try to play and the authorization box popos up again and loops this cycle.

  • How can I fix itunes music file's permissions

I decided to import all my cds again at a higher bit rate. When importing a cd into itunes that I currently have in the library, itunes will ask me if I want to replace the existing files. To this i say yes, It prevents my library files from loosing the play count. After a couple of cds I realized that the old files weren't being moved to the trash as they should. So I had 2 songs of each cd in their folders. When trying to move the old files into the trash manually, the system asks me to "type my password to allow the finder to make changes". Looking a bit into it I realized that the permissions are wrong. On each music file I have the following in this order:
    everyone Custom
    User (Me) Read & Write
    everyone Read only
The artist's folders and the album's folders permissions are:
    User (Me) Read & Write
    everyone Read only
I checked all other files in itunes and the potcasts have the same permissions as my music files but all other (tv shows, movies, apps) have what I think are the correct permissions:
    User (Me) Read & Write
    staff Read only
    everyone Read only
When I go into a specific music file's info I can't delete the "everyone:Custom" permission line. I can only add an administrator on the list. I fixed the permissions from the installation cd using disk utility but it didn't do anything. I'm able to play all files without problems, as well as my apple tv and my iphone. I can't think of anything else to fix the issue. Any help before I call apple would be appreciated. Thanks
    ~Ralph

in finder, right-click on the iTunes folder and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and adjust the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access. if this doesn't help, try the same on your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder).

I have uninstalled Itunes 10.4 shut down and installed Itunes 10.4 and still get this message on opening? How do i fix this problem?

With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Restart the programme all should be well
In case that your OS is (64 bit)
    1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    2. Copy file "SQLite3.dll"
    3. Now paste it in the folder  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    4. Restart the programme, it should not display that message, it should be clear.
    Good Luck
