How do I Fix Messed up Colour Profiles

I've somehow managed to completely mess up my colour profiles in Photoshop CS5. What a total Gormlops I am. Can anyone help me with these 2 related problems?
1 - ACR displays colours from RAW files as lifeless and dull compared to JPEG. I've searched countless forums and I'm lead to understand that RAW files don't include the 'in-camera' processing that we see on the JPEGS. What I don't understand is that ACR used to display the colours on my RAW files exactly like it did with JPEG files so although I understand the difference in the way ACR handles RAW vs JPEG why has this only become noticable in the last few months? I've had this installation of CS5 for almost 2 years and the problem crept in only recently. How do I fix this?
2 - Proof Colours Confusion
I mostly work on the web and rarely need to print. Round about the same time the above problem reared it's ugly head I also started having issues with how many graphics colours looked in CS5. I realized that half of the time I was working with 'Proof Colours' switched off which made my colours really intense (something to do with gamma).
I checked my 'Proof Setup' and switched it to Internet sRGB seeing as I mostly work with web graphics and photos. I then hit Ctrl+Y to switch on Proof Colours and now I see the colours as they really are.
My question for this is twofold - Am I correct to be working in sRGB and is there ar way to have 'Proof Colours' always switched on so that I only EVER see the 'actual' colours that others will see when I publish my files to the web?
I can't help thinking that these two issues arose at the same time and are linked. I tried installing a demo of CS6 in the hopes it would set me back to where I used to be but alas nothing changed.
Thanks in advance.

You might want to do a forum search there before posting, though.  This comes up repeatedly and has been discussed ad nauseam there.
In a nutshell ACR is not designed to emulate the in-camera JPEGs at all.

    I need to add the icc colour profile of the printers that print my photographs onto my computer so when i do the little post production I know what im getting from them. Any ideas how this can be done.

    There are two library folders where you could install them:
    To install for all users install in
    Macintosh HD > Library >ColorSync>Profiles
    To install only for yourself install in

  • Printer adds blue, how do I fix this? color profile? calibration?

    I have an HP 3210 printer and iphoto 06.
    When I make a copy of a picture with the printer in stand alone mode, the copy is almost an exact.
    When I scan the photo into iphoto and print it, the printer seems to add blue.
    How do I fix this?
    Can I create a custom solor profile or something to get it right?

    Patrick:
    First, you did check your ink cartridges to make sure you're not out in any of them? Duh. Make sure your monitor is calibrated. I use sRGB as the profile and adjust the brightness to make up for the aging monitor. Setting the gamma at 2.2 will help with just darkness.
    Do you have iPhoto's Advanced preferences set to Embed Color Profile? Not sure what would cause too much blue but in the Advanced printer settings under the Copies and Pages menu there are a couple of sections that you can use to adjust the print settings; Color Option and ColorSync. Create a new setting under the Presets menu and save those settings before each trial so that once you get what you want it will be easy to just select that preset and print.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I fix a corrupt user profile

    Hi,
       I have a user profile that is corrupt. In CA, under People, Manage User Profiles, I can't find the broken user profile but when I try to create profile again with New Profile. It won't let me. As it says the Profile exists already. How do I
    fix this broken profile in SharePoint 2013? Thanks.

    I've had to use code like the above to delete user profiles before - however - I would strongly suggest excluding the loop from the above code - otherwise you'll be deleting ALL user profiles - which doesn't seem to be what you want to do
    - e.g:
    /* Load required Assemblies for SharePoint Server and User Profile */
    [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName(“Microsoft.Office.Server”)
    [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName(“Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles”)
    /* Central Adminstration URL or any Web Application*/
    $url = "http://myserver:Port"
    /* Create a new Context Object */
    $contextWeb = New-Object
    Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite("http://servername");
    /* Get the right Service Context */
    $ServerContext = [Microsoft.Office.Server.ServerContext]::GetContext($contextWeb);
    /* create a new connection to the UserProfileManager */
    $UserProfileManager = New-Object
    Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileManager($ServerContext);
    /* Remove Profile */ $UserProfileManager.RemoveUserProfile("CONTOSO\joesmith");

  • How do I fix colour picker to work across different colour-managed monitors?

    Hey everyone!
    I'm assuming this problem I'm having stems from having colour-calibrated monitors, but let me know if I'm wrong!
    To preface, this is the setup I have:
    Windows 7
    3 monitors as follows, all have individual colour profiles calibrated using the Spyder 3
    Cintiq 12WX
    Dell U2410
    Dell 2409WFP
    Photoshop CS6 - Proofed with Monitor RGB, and tested with colour-managed and non-colour-managed documents
    I usually do most of my work on the Cintiq 12WX, but pull the photoshop window to my main monitor to do large previews and some corrections. I noticed that the colour picker wouldn't pick colours consistently depending on the monitor the Photoshop window is on.
    Here are some video examples:
    This is how the colour picker works on my Dell U2410: http://screencast.com/t/lVevxk5Ihk
    This is how it works on my Cintiq 12WX: http://screencast.com/t/tdREx4Xyhw9
    Main Question
    I know the Cintiq's video capture makes the picture look more saturated than the Dell's, but it actually looks fine physically, which is okay. But notice how the Cintiq's colour picker doesn't pick a matching colour. It was actually happening the opposite way for a while (Dell was off, Cintiq was fine), but it magically swapped while I was trying to figure out what was going on. Anyone know what's going on, and how I might fix it?
    Thanks for *any* help!
    Semi-related Question regarding Colour Management
    Colour management has always been the elephant-in-the-room for me when I first tried to calibrate my monitors with a Spyder colourimeter years ago. My monitors looked great, but Photoshop's colours became unpredictable and I decided to abandon the idea of calibrating my monitors for years until recently. I decided to give it another chance and follow some tutorials and articles in an attempt to keep my colours consistent across Photoshop and web browsers, at least. I've been proofing against monitor colour  and exporting for web without an attached profile to keep pictures looking good on web browsers. However, pictures exported as such will look horrible when uploaded to Facebook. Uploading pictures with an attached colour profile makes it look good on Facebook. This has forced me to export 2 versions of a picture, one with an attached colour profile and one without, each time I want to share it across different platform. Is there no way to fix this issue?
    Pictures viewed in Windows Photo Viewer are also off-colour, but I think that's because it's not colour managed... but that's a lesser concern.

    I think I've figured out the colour management stuff in the secondary question, but the weird eyedropper issue is still happening. Could just be a quirk from working on things across multiple monitors, but I'm hoping someone might know if this is a bug/artifact.
    Going to lay out what I inferred from my experiments regarding colour management in case other noobs like me run into the same frustrations as I did. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - the following are all based on observation.
    General Explanation
    A major source of my problems stem from my erroneous assumption that all browsers will use sRGB when rendering images. Apparently, most popular browsers today are colour-managed, and will use an image's embedded colour profile if it exists, and the monitor's colour profile if it doesn't. This was all well and good before I calibrated my monitors, because the profile attached to them by default were either sRGB or a monitor default that's close to it. While you can never guarantee consistency on other people's monitors, you can catch most cases by embedding a colour profile - even if it is sRGB. This forces colour-managed browsers to use sRGB to render your image, while non-colour-managed browsers will simply default to sRGB. sRGB seems to be the profile used by Windows Photo Viewer too, so images saved in other wider gamut colour spaces will look relatively drab when viewed in WPV versus a colour-managed browser.
    Another key to figuring all this out was understanding how Profile Assignment and Conversion work, and the somewhat-related soft-proofing feature. Under Edit, you are given the option to either assign a colour profile to the image, or convert the image to another colour profile. Converting an image to a colour profile will replace the colour profile and perform colour compensations so that the image will look as physically close to the original as possible. Assigning a profile only replaces the colour profile but performs no compensations. The latter is simulated when soft-proofing (View > Proof Colors or ctrl/cmd-Y). I had followed bad advice and made the mistake of setting up my proofing to Monitor Color because this made images edited in Photoshop look identical when the same image is viewed in the browser, which was rendering my images with the Monitor's colour profile, which in turn stemmed from yet another bad advice I got against embedding profiles .  This should formally answer Lundberg's bewilderment over my mention of soft-proofing against Monitor Colour.
    Conclusion and Typical Workflow (aka TL;DR)
    To begin, these are the settings I use:
    Color Settings: I leave it default at North American General Purpose 2, but probably switch from sRGB to AdobeRGB or  ProPhoto RGB so I can play in a wider gamut.
    Proof Setup: I don't really care about this anymore because I do not soft-proof (ctrl/cmd-Y) in this new workflow.
    Let's assume that I have a bunch of photographs I want to post online. RAWs usually come down in the AdobeRGB colour space - a nice, wide gamut that I'll keep while editing. Once I've made my edits, I save the source PSD to prep for export for web.
    To export to web, I first Convert to the sRGB profile by going to Edit > Convert to Profile. I select sRGB as the destination space, and change the Intent to either Perceptual or Relative Colorimetric, depending on what looks best to me. This will convert the image to the sRGB colour space while trying to keep the colours as close to the original as possible, although some shift may occur to compensate for the narrower gamut. Next, go to Save for Web. The settings you'll use:
    Embed Color Profile CHECKED
    Convert to sRGB UNCHECKED (really doesn't matter since you're already in the sRGB colour space)
    and Preview set to Internet Standard RGB (this is of no consequence - but it will give a preview of what the image will look like in the sRGB space)
    That's it! While there might be a slight shift in colour when you converted from AdobeRGB to sRGB, everything from then on should stay consistent from Photoshop to the browser
    Edit: Of course, if you'd like people to view your photos in glorious wide gamut in their colour-managed browsers, you can skip the conversion to sRGB and keep them in AdobeRGB. When Saving for Web, simply remember to Embed the Color Profile, DO NOT convert to sRGB, and set Preview to "Use Document Profile" to see what the image would look like when drawn with the embedded color profile

  • I really messed up Mail, now how do I fix it?

    (Please pardon the long explanation)
    Where I was:
    PowerMac G4, running OSX 10.3.9, Mail 1.3.11
    All working well.
    Burned a back-up DVD of my Mail Library and preference files.
    Where I went:
    MacPro G5, running OSX 10.5.8, Mail 3.6
    How I got there:
    Started the brand new G5, ran through multiple updates, installed files from DVDs burned off the G4. From the back-up DVD, dragged the contents of the Mail Library folder and dropped them into the G5 folder Mail user's library. When a dialog box appeared, asking if I wanted to replace identically named folders, I clicked 'yes'. Dragged and dropped the preference files in the same manner. Internet access through Airport, and Safari work just fine, happily.
    What happened:
    When I first opened Mail, a dialog box said it needed to input files from previous Mail or something, after about two minutes, it opened, showing the mailboxes from the previous Mail in the G4 (Yeah!). Within twenty seconds, an alert requesting the mail server password appeared, and ten seconds later, Mail crashed.
    Where I am now:
    When I open Mail now, it opens showing no previous mailbox folders, then quickly the dialog box asking for a password appears, and seconds after, Mail crashes.
    What I think happened:
    I most likely messed up by mixing old files into the new system. Looking at the Mail folder now, I have no idea what is corrupted and what is good. There are some duplicates by name. Deleting some of them hasn't helped.
    What I want to do:
    Re-install a new Mail system, get it working, than input all my old mail from the G4 in some fashion.
    I would like to have all my email from the last five years on the new system.
    Questions: How can I fix the mess I have now? How can I get a fresh Mail system, and then transfer the previous emails from the G4?
    Thank you sincerely, Isshi.

    Isshi wrote:
    1) Can I import my previous signatures by dragging and dropping in the Signatures.plist file, or do I have to re-write all the old ones? The file in the new Mail is named SignaturesByAccount.plist so it's named differently.
    2) Can I import the previous address book somehow?
    3) How can I import the filter preferences?
    4) Do I really have to re-construct all the mail mailboxes in the new system (now they are nestled in the 'import' mailbox)?
    Despite my earlier suggestion I'm not an expert in mail importing, so others will have to contribute their ideas on some of your questions. Here's what I can tell you regarding your first two questions:
    1) I'd avoid trying to use that Signatures.plist file. I agree that it seems to be organized differently from the earlier version.
    2) Address Book can import an "Address Book Archive". I'd go back to your 10.3.9 system (if you still have it) and see if you can create such a thing.

    I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

    As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
    In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
    To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
    You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

    I recently opened firefox after not using it for a long time. It asked me to update my profile or clean up my profile or something for a "better firefox experience". So I followed the directions and my computer froze stuck on a screen that said that my profile was being uploaded or something. So I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and the message remains. I cannot use firefox now. How do I fix this? Help!
    P.S. I am using a Mac OS X 10.7.5

    Oh, also I saw on some other threads that you can try deleting a profiles.ini file, but for the life of me I cannot find that file anywhere on my Mac. I followed these instructions to try to get to the profiles.ini file (And they were nowhere to be found):
    Mac
    Profile folders are in one of these locations:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
    ~/Library/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
    The tilde character (~) refers to the current user's Home folder, so ~/Library is the /Macintosh HD/Users/<username>/Library folder.

    Proof Colors doesn't change the file's color management, it just lets you see what the color values would look like if they are printed unchanged on different output devices. If you want to actually convert the color from one CMYK space to another, it's probably better to do that in Acrobat—Tools>Print Production>Convert Colors.
    There's very little difference between Fogra27 and Fogra39—Fogra27 allows more total ink 350 vs. 330.
    There's nothing you can do to improve the quality of low res images
