How do I fix my Reader plug-in?

Help? I am very confused and frustrated. After many attempts to fix myself. I have probably screwed things up.
My goal is simple. I had it on 1 machine before total hardware failure. I would like to have it happen again.
I want to open a pdf online in an additional browser tab.
I read the technote Configure Firefox and Mozilla to display PDF files (Acrobat 8.0, Adobe Reader 8.0 on Windows)
But am still very confused. I am using Acrobat Professional 6.0 but Firefox and windows are confused about my reader. Every attempt to configure it properly fails
What version of the reader plugin should I be using?
Under Program Files\Adobe I have
Acrobat 6.0
Acrobat 7.0 (not sure where that came from)
Acrobat_COM
reader 8.0
Reader 9.0
Under Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins I have
nppdf32.dll v9.1.0.163
Acrobat 6.0 works fine stand alone. I simply can't open a PDF in a browser
I have to save the darn thing and open in 6.0
Help?

Thank-you John,
I am not sure I completely understand you. Forgive me. I use acrobat because I do make and edit some PDF's but I want to be able to open a PDF online. I want it to open in a new browser tab. I have 2 other machines where I have acrobat pro installed and when I open a PFD online it opens in a new tab for viewing.
Am I to understand from your answer that I can't do both?
Or is it a configuration issue of configuring acrobat to operate properly with my browser.
Thank-you in advance for your patience.
Lisa

Im running Vista (no comments on that please :p) and the latest version of as downloaded from the mozilla website (3.6 something)
    my plug-ins are (version number):
    2007 MS Office system (12.0.4518.1014),

hi all - I have a similar problem with flash - basically the plugin crashes pretty much every time I am not looking at it directly (playing online games in tabs for example)
I have tried disabling the "memory-safe-away-time-out thingee" in config:about - to no avail. I have also tried disabling all other plugins (not that I actually have many - Java, VLC, quicktime, some windows stuff), have set themes to default, have made sure all plugins are latest version.
currently running the 4.0.b2 Firefox version cause of the plug in crashes in the 3.6.8 version - same problem though.
and where it gets really strange is that a friendly help person on the adobe site suggested I upgrade my firefox to version 3.8 (while I was on the 3.6.8 version) and that would fix it. which I thought was.. interesting as 3.6.8 is the latest version as Firefox upgrade check insisted.
by now i have invested at least 4 days trying to fix this issue and I gotta say... I am tempted to actually try other browsers, though firefox is my default browser since years.

  • How do i fix the blocked plug ins issue?

This is happening all the time now where I can't even watch a video on facebook. How do I take care of this problem?

    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How can I fix adobe blocked plug in,

have tried numerous times to download and have failed .

If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test.
For a "blocked plug-in" error, see Step 4.
For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8.
Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4

              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • How do I fix the blocked plug-in when Flash Player version 11.5.502.149 is installed?

    Hi,
    I have Mac OS X version 10.8.2.
Recently I found that I had to update my Flash player so did so but videos still came up with 'Blocked Plug-In' so I followed all the instructions on the Adobe website. unistalled it, reinstalled it, emptied the cache, restarted my mac, the whole thing but it is still not helping..
The version of Flash player that I have is the 11.5.502.149, the latest one.
    Please help!

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, triple-click the line below to select it:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. You may be prompted for your login password. If you get the same error after doing that, re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    2. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    3. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    4. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select

Sounds like the app is having issues starting. Maybe choking on a file that didn't close correctly?
Suggest going to System Preferences, General, place a check next to "Close windows when quitting the application".
Then follow the direction in the link above. Namely, Force Quit that app and restart the computer.

You need to ask the people who sold it to you. Doesn't sound like it has anything to do with Reader.
However, you should be wary of devices that automatically try to open files when plugged in. They can also infect your computers with all kinds of viruses or malware.
