How do I fix song order on album?

I have the latest update on iTunes, 12.1.0.71 64-bit. I am on a PC, running Windows 7 Enterprise.
I was listening to songs on iTunes yesterday on my computer when suddenly the songs on one album went out of order. I have played multiple albums previously with no problems. The order changed right before my eyes. I have tried the following:
1. open and close iTunes
2. open Get Info and ensure the name of the band, album, disc #, and track order are correct, both by comparison and by changing the name and then changing it back to the correct information
When I look at it in Albums or Artists, it gives the songs in order of 2, 1, 3....the remainder of the songs appear to be in order. However, when I look at it under Songs, it shows one song (#2, the one out of place) to listed separately from the rest of the album. It seems iTunes recognizes the name of the album differently. For song #2, it recognizes the album starts with "A" and for the rest of the album, it skips the "A" and goes to "P" (the next word in the album name). I've tried changing the name and changing it back, but it still lists it out of order.
What am I doing wrong?

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums, in particular see Tried that, there are STILL too many covers! and also check for consistent use of disc numbers.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • How do I make songs become one album?

I recently bought +The Essential Joshua Bell+ on iTunes. When I view my music by artists, the Joshua Bell album appears numerous times when in cover flow. How do I fix this so the whole album is together?
P.S. Some songs are made by multiple artists.

    *HowTo: Grouping Tracks Into Albums*
Excuse the long post, but hopefully covering all the bases (that I can think of) will help you fix the other issues you are likely to run into as you try to organise your iTunes library.
    *Use an album friendly view*
iTunes will let you sort music on many columns, some of which are unlikely to group albums together or put the tracks in their normal order. The most useful order for editing the library is probably *Album by Artist*. If you're not already there, select the list view and click on the column heading for Artist until it reads Album by Artist.
    *One cover, too many tracks*
The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover or append different numbers of spaces for each different album. Somewhat oddly, setting different values for Sort Album doesn't work.
*Album not with others by same artist*
iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. In iTunes, however, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us however, would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the album artist and clear the compilation flag.
    *One album, too many covers*
For true compilations, where each track is by a different artist, the answer is to set the compilation flag to true and enable the iTunes preference to *Group compilations when browsing*. Otherwise tracks which list guest artists will be treated as separate items. Filling in the Album Artist field is enough to link things in iTunes. Sadly, however, the iPod ignores the Album Artist field when grouping albums so this is only a partial solution. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTMS handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate this is not part of the actual song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
*One album, still too many covers*
iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.
*Tried that, there are STILL too many covers!*
The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading articles (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.
    *One cover for multi-disc album*
Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should have the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track (so that no two tracks ever have the same number) until I reach disc 1. BTW You can still give the individual discs different artwork should it be relevant so that the correct artwork will be displayed as the album progresses.
    *One artist, many names*
With some artists, particularly classical composers, you should be aware of alternative representations of their names. E.g. 2Pac vs. Tupac. The menus will work best if for each artist you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. For classical music I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard the performer details or place these into the Comments field.

  • Song order on albums isn't right

The songs in albums aren't in the correct order on my ipod. They're numbered correctly in itunes, but aren't right on the ipod. Is there a fix for this? It's especially annoying in the Pink Floyd albums.
    Message was edited by: smith5879

Ok for example, The Wall by Pink Floyd. On itunes the order of the first 3 songs is: In the Flesh, The Thin Ice, Another Brick In the Wall Part 1. That is the correct order. On the ipod the order is: The Thin Ice, Another Brick in the Wall Part 1, The Happiest Days of Our Lives. In the Flesh is somewhere is the middle of the album on the ipod. How do I fix it on the ipod? Some other albums are not in order either on the ipod either.

  • How can i bundle songs in 1 album and 1 artwork

I have downloaded 32 songs that belongs to a Various artists Album.  In iTunes I see the album and songs in 3 different ways.
    1. Album with artwork and only 18 songs
    2. Album and artwork and 11 songs (not same as above)
    3. 3 songs with no artwork but the info is the same and indicates the correct album.
How do I combine all of this this to show 1 album, 1 artwork and all the songs together?

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums.
In this case the issue is caused by the fact that you are sorting on the Date Added column and two unrelated tracks were imported during the same time frame as the album in question.

  • How can I change the order of albums on iphone music app?

Recently went through two iTunes updates that I feel are not in tune with how my music was sorted before. Prior to the first update (forgot how long ago it was and which version it was), under the music app on my iPhone 5S when you tapped on an artist the next page would display all albums under that artist separately. Meaning I was able to play one album at a time. After the update, now when you tap on an artist you get all the albums (with each song under each album) showing on one page all lumped together. I preferred playing each album separately, rather than having the following album play after the previous one. Well, I was able to get over that. That is until the most recent iOS update. Now the album orders reversed completely based on date of release. Whereas before the albums were listed in order based on release date, now the first album that shows up under each artist is sorted by the most current release. This is so ANNOYING; why do they keep changing things around? Is there any way to sort the order so that the albums are listed in order of when they were released?

When syncing folders the photos are ordered by capture date - the only way to alter the order (apart from using iPhoto or Aperture on a Mac) is to amend the photo's capture dates : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221

  • How do i change song order

    Hello,
I have downloaded songs from different albums and have re-named the album to put them into a compilation.
The only problem is they are not in the order i want them.
How do i change the order of the songs?
    Thanks

find the folder with the songs in, then rename the songs with the number for the order you want
e.g. "Track Name" change to 1 "Track Name"
"Track Name" change to 2 "Track Name"
    etc...

  • How To Select All Songs In An Album To Play Them?

How can I easily select all songs in one album to play them?
Now I have to click the checkbox for each individual song. Surely, there is a shortcut for this??? I keep the library sorted by album. And, no, I am not going to do playlists.
And, by the way, why isn't there a detailed manual showing how to use the product?

    cochranjk2 wrote:
If you turn on the Browser while in that list view, then the album art continues to display when you select a single album from the browser pane.
The browser has three columns. The right hand column lists the albums without album art. I found no way to change that behavior. Yes, I can search for the album by name, but that's not what I would normally do.
The album art continues to be displayed in the area below the Browser.
Why are you closing the Browser? You can navigate away from the window with the Browser in it and edit data on any of your other tracks. When you come back, the album you selected will still be selected, and it will stop playing at the end.
(I'm also not sure what you mean by "go back to the Library". When you turn on the Browser, you're still in your Library; it's just a different view mode. Are you navigating to a different playlist?)
I close the browser so I can see the list of tracks and albums in the library. With the browser open and one album selected (to play it), it is the only album visible in the library. I found no way to "navigate away from the window with the browser" - the browser is the only view of the library available at that point. I am not using playlists at all (except for syncing with my iPhone and occasionally to burn a CD) so, no, I am not navigating to a different (or any) playlist.
Aha. That's easy enough to fix: create a playlist (called "Editing" or something) containing all of your music. (You could make it a smart playlist, using the rule "Date added is after 1/1/1900"). Then, while leaving the Browser open in your main library window, you can navigate to your Editing playlist to do all your editing. Then your album will remain selected, and keep playing, in the main library.
iTunes's functionality is dependent on playlists. There are solutions to the problems you are having, but trying to solve problems without using any playlists is like asking for help with organizing things on the Desktop without wanting to use folders.
Here's another solution: Leave everything checked, as I said above. Create an empty playlist, and tell Party Shuffle to use that empty playlist as its source. Then, if you highlight tracks, control-click them, and choose "Play next in Party Shuffle," Party Shuffle will add those tracks and play only them, then stop (because it will try to draw the next track from the empty playlist, and not find anything). I just tested this; it works fine.
Sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about. After messing around for 20 minutes or more, trying the iTunes (pitiful) help, and finding nothing usable about "Party Shuffle" (the so called help describes things I was unable to locate -- no Party Shuffle playlist, no source pop-up menu, etc.), I quit.
    Step-by-step:
    1) In Preferences > General, make sure the "Party Shuffle" checkbox is checked in the "Show:" options.
    2) Close Preferences, then select the Party Shuffle icon in the Playlists column on the left of your iTunes window. It's probably populated with random songs from your library at this point.
    3) Create a new playlist (command-N), but don't add any songs to it. Name it "Empty" or something similar.
    4) In the Party Shuffle playlist, in the lower left-hand corner, there is a drop-down menu labeled "Source". Select your Empty playlist from that menu. (iTunes will probably warn you that the playlist you selected is empty.) Note that the Party Shuffle playlist depopulates, because it is drawing its music from an empty playlist.
    5) Return to your library, highlight an album (or any group of songs), and control-click any of the tracks. Select "Play next in Party Shuffle" from the contextual menu that appears.
Party shuffle will play the tracks you selected. When it gets to the end of the selection, it will try to draw a random track from the Empty playlist, and fail, and stop playing. You can then continue to edit song information in your library, or navigate to the Party Shuffle playlist if you want see what's playing and look at the album art that's being played.
This solution does exactly what you asked for.

  • The song order on albums I've bought from amazon are reversed/

It seems every album I buy & down load from Amazon has the song order reversed.  I can't figure out how to reverse the the tracks so they play in the correct order.

I copied my library over to a hard drive and then completely deleted my library in iTunes by selecting all the songs and deleting, obviously not checking the box to delete from iCloud. This seems to have worked.
Yeah, I've noticed that some ripped songs have been replaced by purchased iTunes songs, I'm guessing that they just fall into the correct peramiters for the match. Not sure what to do about that.
In short deleting and downloading my library again from iCloud sorted most of the miss matches. The problem with associating with ripped files still remains though.
I'm not sure of the criteria for the match but I'm guessing it's going to be pretty involved or one could simply get a track of x length and so on and end up getting music for free via match.

  • How can I give songs on one album different illustrations.

Pete Philly, a Dutch singer, did a project, called "Open Loops". He uploaded a number of songs that didn't really fit in his new album, to be downloaded for free. I downloaded it, and it turns out that every song has its own illustration. I was curious if it was possible for several songs on one album to have different illustrations in iTunes. Is it possible? If so, how can I do it? Thanks in advance.

    From another thread
If you just highlight the name of the genre and press play/pause, you won't have to select an artist.

  • HT2729 How can I put songs into the album they came from but were split because of multiple artists on a tune?

I need help in finding out home to combine songs from the same CD into one Album. When putting CD into the iMac, it auto loads into iTunes. If the artist is singing duet and the songs show more than one artist, it gets separated in iTunes. I want to combine all tracks together like they are on the CD.

One way around this is to edit the album info for each song on that album and make the album artist 'various artists', or you can remove that duet artist and make all the artists the same.
Seems to be a glitch or change with how iTunes sees albums now. THey alphabetize them by artist and, as you've noticed, if the artists are different, it sees them as different albums.
I had many albums like this and spent a whole weekend editing the info to 'various' to clean it up.

  • Song order on albums

My iPod always displays the wrong order of songs for particular albums. I tried connecting it to the computer and changing the song order via iTunes but it was correct on iTunes. Went back to iPod and it is still the wrong song order on those albums. Any solutions?

I got it - some songs had "Album Artist" set, some not. Those without were at the end of the list, regardless of the track number set. iTunes disregards "Album Artist" and shows songs in correct order. I simply removed album artist in all tracks and the order became correct. Setting album artist to the same for all tracks would also work.
As for artist order, it also became correct ("The Beatles" under "B") after I reinstalled iTunes with English (by default, the first installation was German - stay away from it).

  • How to retrieve deleted songs from itunes albums list

    hi,
In my itunes library I've got several albums. Since a long time (me or someone else arround me) have deleted randomly some tracks from some albums. So these songs are no more available in iTunes list (xml file) nor in the hard disk. All the scripts I've found on the net cannot help me to get ths list of removed tracks.
My question is : "Is there a script or software able to retreive the list of missing song in each album I've in my iTunes application (macintosh) ? I think that thi magic script should perhaps query the CDDB database or someting like that.
    Any help would be appreciated

Unless you have a copy of a .xml file with the play lists contents before deleteing - your are outta luck.
Even if you have a .xml file the actual files - from your discription - have been deleted from the HD - hence you will need to add those tunes back into iTunes - then add those tunes back into the PL.

  • How can I keep songs in proper album sequence?

Please help an old AOR geezer. I've got "track numbers" checked in my Edit>view options menu, but when I rip a CD to my itunes v4.8, the songs come out scrambled, usually to bad effect. How to listen to stuff in the right order? I know there's got to be a simple fix, but I've looked, and I'm not finding it. I didn't have this problem until recent downloads of new itunes updates. please help. Thanks

If I understand you correctly, what you may need to do it check the album information (right click on song, click "get info", click "info" tab) for the album you have loaded. If they are tracks from the same album, make sure under the "disc info" they are listed as Disc 1 of 1 and then each song should have its own track number like 10 of 12. If they are numbered incorrectly, rearrange the number to meet your preferences.
I know on one or two of my albums, when I imported them, iTunes rearranged them to a different order. I can only assume this is due to the album information iTunes has stored and when the music is imported iTunes arranged it to what they have on file.

  • Song order in albums messed up

For some albums that I've bought after buying a song from it on iTunes (I see if I like the song, then if I like it I buy the whole album), the track order gets all messed up. The whole album is an actual CD that I bought at a store, not from the iTunes store, and for whatever reason, even after going to "Get Info" and adjusting the track number, the song does not move into place. For example, I bought X & Y by Coldplay at Best Buy the day it came out, and in it said that I could get an extra track through Napster for free, so I got the song and eventually put it in my iTunes library. I wanted to adjust it in "Get Info" to put the extra song at the end of the album, but it still remains at the beginning of the album. I hope this is clear enough to understand. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?

best way to fix this is to highlight all 14 tracks (13 tracks on my coldplay CD so i am assuming you have 14) and right click for the "get info" section. it might give you a prompt about changing info for multiple selections, but you do want to continue. under "get info", make sure that the artist and album are exactly the same and have a checkmark in the box to the left of artist & album. the other key is to make sure that there is a checkmark in the box for "track number x of "X". for that second box put in 14 and keep it checkmarked. this way, all the tracks will show 1 of 14, 2 of 14, etc.
next step is to only right click and choose "get info" for the lone track 14. make sure that this track has the correct album, artist, name info correct and be sure that it is labeled as track "14 of 14". at this point, iTunes should recognize all tracks as a part of 1 single album.
hope this helps, but if you have questions, just reply!
