How do I fix this-iPad "sync session failed to start"
I'm trying to sync my iPad. I have tried via cable and over wifi. I have done it before. Now it says "sync session failed to start".
Can anyone help?
Also, iBooks on my iPad won't open books anymore. It says "the requested resource is missing". What is this? How do I fix it?
Thank you!!!!
Hello Kwastfamily,
It sounds like you are unable to print from your computer to your printer. I would run through the troubleshooting steps in this article:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3147
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again. Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,
Sterling

TRIED ALL FIXES: none work - sync session failed to start
Most of my attempted fixes use only my MacBook, OS X 10.7.3 (current Lion), iTunes is 10.5.3(3) 64-bit (current version). Phone is AT&T 4S, 16 GB v. 5.0.1 (9A406, current version).
I have used iCloud match on this phone, but now have it shut off. When I use iTunes to view the music on the iPhone, I see 1864 songs. iTunes sees this as 1864 items, 5 days, zero bytes). All are streams. All are greyed out. I can't delete them. I can't overwrite them becuase I can't sync.
This problem is on every computer I have tried. 4 different computers, all running either Lion, Snow Leopard, Windows 746x or Windows 8. I have tried the following:
Reset all settings on iPhone, then restored from iCloud
Remove all applications and settings, then restored phone from iCloud
removed iTunes, reinstalled (windows only)
Turned off iTunes match on Mac, Windows and iPhone
Removed all device support for iPhone, then re-installed it
Restarted iPhone, Mac and PC
Reinstalled Windows from scratch
Tried a Mac that had never synced this phone before.
Tried new installation of OSX (install Snow Leopard, upgrade to Lion)
Tried DIAGNOSTICS on Windows iTunes (all passed, including Device Connectivity, then it reported 'sync failed to start')
Tried one post that insisted my iCloud settings on my Mac and in the iPhone control panel needed to match, so I tried that too.
I have no other options. After over twenty-four hours involved in nuking and restoring iPhone from cloud, I don't see what there is left to try. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.btw, u could try the last post in this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/17700783#17700783. for me it didn't work. see if it works for u.

When i try to sync my ipad with the itunes on my computer it gives me an error message. " The sync session failed to start. How can i fix this?? I had to uninstall itunes on my computer because of runtime error R6034.
The new iTunes has a somewhat different look from the previous version. You can get the old look back if you prefer it by doing View > Show Sidebar in iTunes. Or you can adapt to the new look.

I'm trying to sync my iPhone4s, but everytime iTunes tries to sync, I get a message "This iPhone cannot sync because the sync session failed to start." I've tried restoring my phone, and all my software is up to date. It won't sync any of my songs/apps back to my phone. Somebody please help!
Try to connect in recovery mode, explained in this article:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
Before that, back up your device, explained here:

When I try to sync my Ipad Mini, I get an error message that says "sync session failed to start". Anyone ever deal with this?
Quit iTunes, restart your computer, restart your iPad and try again. If it doesn't work with a restart of the iPad, try a reset of the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
Whenever I try to sync my iPod Touch 5th gen with iTunes I get an error message saying "The iPod "*****" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start". Is there any way I can fix this?
B-rock, thanks for posting the above. I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message. I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?
Thank you! -

Maybe you should get new friends.
I'm not sure that recovery mode works when you have to trust the computer, but did you try it?
If you can't update or restore your iOS device - Apple Support
If that won't work, perhaps you can use Find my iPhone from a computer in your iCloud.com account to erase the device.
iCloud: Erase your device - Apple Support
This has nothing to do with the Find my iPhone app being installed on the phone, but you do have to have Find my iPhone activated in the iCloud settings on the phone. -

"The ipod could not be synced because the sync session failed to start" What does this mean?
When syncing on iTunes, the syncing meter runs in iTunes in my computer but nothing appears in my device (It should have Sync In Progress). Whenever I edit my music files (editing title, album and artwork), it edits in iTunes but when I eject my device, nothing's changed. My device is a 3rd Gen iTouch and this is my second 3rd gen iTouch unit. I lost my first unit and am familiar with how it operates so I do not understand what is causing this. The 4 view option buttons "show items in a song list... etc" (beside the search field, upper right corner) won't work. Now in my 3rd attempt to sync, as i right click on my ipod name in iTunes to select sync, this appears ,"The ipod could not be synced because the sync session failed to start" and my only option is to click OK. Please help. My apps are kinda slow too and theres a slight delay opening files and apps in my iTouch.

Am trying to migrate into the iCloud and updated:
1. Mac Air to 10.7.2
2. iTunes to 10.5.(141)
3. iPad (1) to iOS 5 (9A334)
Was able to sychronize and then found out I lost all my apps and rearranged them in iTunes and hoping I could resync them again and received:
The iPad “...” could not be synced because the sync session failed to start.
I saw various entries for this in the the communites mainly caused by earlier Betas but I haven't seen anything for the latest versions released last week.
Anybody who can help?Try resetting your iPad an see if that will let you sync.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Try restarting your computer as well. -
