How do I fix this photo?

I'm fairly new to photoshop but know the basics. I often get photos like this. I've searched for tutorials but can't find any good ones. Anyone have a link to a tutorial or could point me in the right direction. I've tryed brightness/contrast, shadows/highlights and had a go at levels.
Lightening the image or doing a shadow/highlight works for some of the image but the man at the back is still in the dark.

Hello,
Is this something like what you want?  If so I’ll try and explain how to do this.  I pre-apologize for having lost the bookmark to the video that fully explains this process.
Once in photoshop, go to levels and move the right and left sliders to the edges of your histogram, create a new layer (layer 1), change the color to gray, set the mode to overlay, reduce the opacity to 50% click ok.  Select your paint brush, set opacity to 20%, leave the flow at 100%.  Set your default foreground and background colors to black & white – now paint over the image, white removes color, black will add color.  Changes will be minor, you may have to paint over the subject several times – do not use a hard brush.  Once you have the photo adjusted to your satisfaction, click “Ctrl, Alt,, Shift and the letter E” all at the same time, this will create a new layer (layer 2) above the previous.  You should now have three layers, with the most recent at the top, with that layer active go to “Filter”, select “Other” from the dropdown menu, select “High Pass” adjust the radius to around 0.5 or 0.6, click ok.  With that layer still active right mouse click on layer 2, select blending options, change the blending mode to “Overlay” leave everything else at 100%  This will sharpen the image slightly.  If you have changed the radius to much delete layer 2 and repeat “Ctrl, Alt, Shift & E” and decrease the radius.  This may sound convoluted, in actuality it is very simple once having gone through the process.
Good Luck!!!

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I had a previous problem with this with my old iphone 4 and did not realize there was an issue until it was stolen. I would like to get this straightened out just in case anything ever happens with this phone.
Thank you in advance for any help.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me,  A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  If I import it, a message comes up Unreadable file, the following file could not be imported. them it tells me where the file is and it cannot be opened.  If I do not import, then it says,The photo has been placed in the folder /Users/patrick*******/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_4.  It will just keep adding to recvovered photos.  This drives me crazy!!!!!!!  How do I fix this?

I had this problem some months ago and the following solution from Terrence Delvin put things right:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
However, since connecting a memory stick to my computer, I now have the same problem again.  This time there is no folder called 'Import' or 'Importing' so what should I do?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

iMessage on MacBook Pro shows i'm my friend. My friend's photo and name shows in every conversation instead of mine. How do I fix this?

I am using my own Apple ID.  (My father doesn't even have one).  I seem to recall having to select a contact or something to assign to my iMessage app when I used it the first time on my iPad.  I checked the settings and it is set to my apple ID and correct email address.  Any other ideas?

  • TS2551 forced to upgrade to get on IPhoto & now an ! shows up everytime I try to view/email/print a photo!  How do I fix this?

I had to upgrade to get on IPhoto and now an ! shows up each time I click on a photo to email/print.  How do I fix this problem?  Thank you

What do you mean by "get on iPhoto"?  What was the exact message that you got?  It may have been a message to upgrade the library rather than the application.  The only time the app needs to be upgraded is when the library has been opened by a later version of the application.
As for the ! it shows up when iPhoto has lost/broken the file path to the original files in the library. So apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
NOTE: since you gave no indication of the version of iPhoto or system you're using the following is based on iPhoto 9 (11) and Lion or later.
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I have always been able to email photos (although ONE AT A TIME), but since apple replaced my dead IPad2 no one is receiving my photos.  I just found out two months later!  How can I fix this?

Since apple replaced my dead IPad2 I can not email photos.  I didn't know that no one was receiving them until today.  How can I fix this?

I don't understand the ONE AT A TIME lament, as it's pretty easy to email more than one at a time. Have you tried to and been unable or didn't know that you could?
As for no one receiving, well .... first, review how you're trying to do it and, as a check, email some to yourself. That will be a good first check.

Try updating to iPhoto 9.4.1. If it's not appearing in your Software Update yet, try updating using a .dmg installer downloaded from the following page on the Apple website:
    iPhoto 9.4.1
From the release notes for the new version:
    What's New in Version 9.4.1
Improves the reliability of syncing to iOS devices via iTunes
Fixes an issue that could cause iPhoto to quit unexpectedly when using the Export command
Addresses an issue that could cause iPhoto to quit unexpectedly when upgrading multiple books, cards, and calendars

  • I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this?

I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this? I even tried deleting iMovie, bought a new copy and installed it, but the folder "iPhoto Videos" is still there and I can't get new clips loaded to iMovie, especially where I want them. Please help.

The iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether.
