How do i fix this- the ipod cannot be used because the apple mobile device is not started?

Hi, my ipod touch normally works with my laptop but just plugged it in and its stating it cannot work as the mobile device is not started? its turned on and my laptop has recognised a mobile device is there. Can anyone help?? x

it means that the service that suporting your device on the computer is not started
to restart it go in windows task manager by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC (ECHAP in french keyboard)
or right clic on task bare and start windows task manager
go on tab ''service'' find apple mobile device, right clic on it and start this service
now you device should be able to connect to itunes

It is working now. I no longer get the message about the item not being available in the US and I can access the store.

When i plug my ipod in it says ipod cant be read cuz the apple mobile device is not started.And i went to services and apple mobile device properties and start stops in the middle.and its on automatic.and there isnt a stop button.

You must be running Windows. AMD is a service that needs to be running in order to sync your phone. You need to start it as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567.
