How do I flash a BIOS upgrade.

A have a MS-7360 P35 Neo motherboards.
The BIOS is AMIBIOS A7360IMS V1.1 052107
Over time, I have had several minor faults, advising that they may be the result of
some mismatch between BIOS and hardware.
So, having done this with other machines earlier, I tried to do it with this one.
But,I cannot find out how to !!
The MSI webside informs that versions 20 and 21 are available, but they can only be instaled using "Liveupdate".
The "Click here to read the instruction" button leads to a Error 404 File Not Found message.
So, I tried to download and install "Liveupdate". The program freezes everytime.
I entered the MSI forum. There is a warning against using "Liveupdate" to flash the BIOS.
Instead a "MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool" is offered.
I tried that tool, and was warned by my computer that the program was blocked because it tried to install a Trojan.
And even if it had worked, I could probably not have used it. The thing is: I cannot find the apropriate BIOS file itself.
It is probably hidden somewhere in the folders made by "Liveupdate", but which file is it?
I tried www.ami.com. It identidied my BIOS, but there was nowhere to find an upgrade.
So, can anyone help me here ?

And now another one, there must have been quite a few of those P35 Neos sold.
To get to the point though you need BIOS for G33 MB which is the same BIOS for your version of the P35.
BIOS download is here:

I know this for fact as I had the same MB a few years ago, you are the 3rd or 4rth this week with question and at least you have been lucky enough not to flash the wrong BIOS like some of the others. Don't even use the Live Update to flash the BIOS else you can end up with a dead MB, use the forum tool.

How can I flash the bios of a MSI kt3 ultra2 without a floppy drive?
I used the msi live update software to download the bios update programe...when I run it gives 2 options dos and windows
but the windows option is greyed out and the dos option requires a floppy drive (mine does not work)..what can I do?

I can tell you what you need to do but unfortunately - not how to do all of it.
You will need to make a bootable CD with the neccessary files on it .- Somewhere on the www you should be able to find the instructions. I have flashed from a CD   with no problems on a K7S5A board . The CD image was available as a complete download and just needed burning to the CD  so - apart from the obvious ( BIOS file , BIOS installer ,command.com,msdos .sys, io.sys)I don't know what else might  be needed on the CD- unfortunately the disk I made is long gone.
I'm sure a search will find what you need to know.
Once you have the disk -just insert in CD Drive - restart and follow the instructions.

  • Q9400 on P35 Neo2-FIR: how to flash the BIOS to 1.9?

    Hi,
I recently purchased the parts for a new system. The specs are as follows:
    Corsair 550W PSU
    P35 Neo2-FIR Mobo
    Q9400 CPU
    2x2GB Corsair PC6400 CL5 DDR2 RAM
    ATI HD 3450 Graphics card
I put it all together, only it won't work. I get a red message saying the overclocking settings caused an error and a standard BIOS config had been loaded, then I'm asked if I want to save the current BIOS settings. Regardless whether I enter Y or N, I get a "4096MB OK" message, and then nothing happens. Rebooting just gives me the MSI post screen, but it doesn't go beyond that and hitting DEL to enter the setup doesn't work either.
Now my guess is that the reason this doesn't work is because my CPU isn't supported by BIOS 1.8, which is the one that came with the motherboard. It is supported by 1.9, however. But how do I flash my BIOS to 1.9 if I can't even get past the POST screen?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Correct. That's why I said to not flash the BIOS.
Have you tried a barebone configuration?
I've tried with just the CPU, graphics card, one harddrive and one stick of RAM, and here's what happens:
It tries to boot up a first time, the four small status leds on the mobo light up red and power cuts off.
Then it boots up again and it seems to be getting farther as the leds flash red and green in different patterns. I even get the MSI logo on the screen for a fraction of a second. Only it seems to be stuck in a loop: the screen disappears again, the leds flash the patterns all over, the logo flickers back on and off, and so on...
The only way to stop the loop is to hit DEL, after which I get the boot screen saying Genuine Intel etc, 2048MB OK and that's where it freezes. At this stage, the LEDs are stuck on the following pattern, top to bottom: green red green red, which according to my manual means "Testing Base and Extended Memory".
So I thought something might be wrong with the RAM and I tried to switch to the other stick, but that didn't help, same problem.
    Any ideas?

  • How do I safely flash my BIOS?

    Hi all,
I want to flash to bios 1.5 from 1.3, but i do not know how to do this.
How do you flash the bios? Do i have to download anything? How do i copy bios 1.3 to a floppy in case i want to go back.
Also, i have heard that 1.52b is better than 1.5. can anyone comment on this?
    Thanks

Use LiveUpdate3, choose DOS method (not the Windows method) and follow the instructions. The only caution is that when the windows format dialog pops up to format a floppy disk, don't select any options. LiveUpdate will include the files to make it a boot disk.
I tried 1.52b and 1.5 and have found no difference. If you want to flash a beta bios it is a little more involved. Go to the bios forum and do a search.

  • Having trouble flashing the BIOS.

I am running the MS-6712 (KT4V-L) with the VT8377 (KT400) Chipset Revision 00, Southbridge VIA Model VT8235 Revision OO.
BIOS American Megatrends Version 07.00T 04/02/01.
I have downloaded what I think to be the current BIOS update for my PC but when I try to perform the flash it tells me that the chipset is not correct..etc.
I was running Windows XP and having trouble so I reinstalled the OS.  Then the video drivers weren't working properly and I started getting the BSOD, it said invalid driver.  I reloaded the OS again and figured I should do all of the MB updates before anything else.  I ran the USB 2.0 patch and the computer keep rebooting now and seems to have trashed the USB onboard.  I had to plug a PS/2 keyboard in to even get into the BIOS or anything.  I then tried running the chipset update and it appeared to run but the version didn't change.  I tried to run the rest of the drivers and they all failed except for the sound drivers?  I am also getting sporadic reboots when I am trying to download my Windows updates.  I keep having driver conflicts but not sure why since it is a fresh install?  Things just aren't adding up?
I know that all sounds pretty vague but the MB was working fine before doing any of the updates.  How can I flash the BIOS and chipset on this and can you tell me where the current versions are?
Thanks in advance and please feel free to ask for the information that I am sure I have forgotten to post.

  • T500 BIOS upgrade v3.00-1.03 bootable CDROM won't flash

Model is a 2081 CTO running Windows Vista x64 SP1. Downloaded and burned to a CDROM the image 6fuj30uc.iso. As per the instructions, I tried installing the hotfix as required by MS KB 937500 but it does not install saying the update does not apply to this system. Even though the system is a T500 instead of a W500, I also upgraded the switchable graphics driver as also mentioned in the readme file.
BIOS boot options have the CD/DVD as the first bootup device. All password protection to the BIOS has been removed.
Booting up with the CDROM results in a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner. BIOS does not get flashed. Nor does a menu appear providing me with options to read help or flash the BIOS.
    BIOS remains at 6FET56WW (2.02).

Flash Player version 10.1.102.64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users. However, this Flash version won't work for many videos on Facebook, YouTube and other sites. Adobe's latest version, 10.2.x or later, is only for Intel Macs. Adobe will not provide a newer Flash version for PPC Macs.
The message requesting that you download Adobe Flash Player takes you to Flash Player requiring an Intel processor. Doesn't work on a PowerPC processor. I found a hack, installed it & it works with Firefox, TenFourFox & Safari.
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

If you are NOT having problems then don't flash the BIOS on your video card. If Live Update says that there is a new BIOS for your card and it supports a BIOS flash go ahead and roll the dice. IF ANY THING GO'S WRONG YOUR CARD WILL BE SCRAP

  • A70z BIOS Upgrade via Flash from O/S

    Hello Everyone,
Situation: A friends A70z 0401 slow as heck; 1GB Memory (as shipped); Current BIOS Version: 98KT17A
He wants to upgrade to max. 4GB but per Lenovo's website this requires a BIOS upgrade to a minimum of 98KT25A to recognize a 2GB module.
Memory arrived and I went to apply the latest version posted, 98KT27A, and I received the following:"Error: File ROM ID incorrect" when attempting to flash via O/S.
Readme file excerpt from the package build:
    *     2.  In the application graphical user interface, press button "Open"  *
    *         and select the BIOS ROM image "imagexx.rom", where "xx"           *
    *         represents the two digit flash level. Then press button "Flash" to   *
    *         start the update process. When the update process is complete,    *
    *         press button "Exit" to exit the application.                      *
Using the GUI-based "AFUWIN" utility and selecting the image file that came with the update I would have expected to find a file named of IMAGE27.ROM based upon the above instructions, but found IMAGE98.ROM.  Could my problem be as simple as renaming the delivered file name to IMAGE27.ROM and re-executing the AFUWIN utility?
If so, naughty BIOS package build.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sue

    So here's the answer:
Since my friends PC was out of warranty, the support team was some help and suggested running Lenovo's System Update Utility and apply the BIOS upgrade that way.  I did, it failed.  After it fails you can run the update manually, I did, it failed.  It failed because in both cases it was using the Windows-based utility.
I gave up at that point and just burned the ISO image (98KT27A) to a CD and the new version 98JT27A installed successfully.
Hope this info helps someone who runs into the same issue that I had.

I've carried out the same out-of-box tests indicated in 119615.0 without success.
    Question:
Is it possible to force the existing system to boot to the FDD where the BIOS upgrade (v 1.2) would be stored ready for use? If yes, kindly outline the necessary steps to be carried out and please point me to the correct BIOS upgrade link for this configuration. If all else fails, MOBO can be exchanged but if BIOS can be upgraded via this method, I prefer this approach. I don't have access to an alternative CPU, so that approach is far less than ideal. Thanks for your assistance.

Is it possible to force the existing system to boot to the FDD where the BIOS upgrade (v 1.2) would be stored ready for use?
Yes, in theory it is possible to try an AMI BIOS Recovery Flash. However, in case their are other problems that are not visible because of the current problem, it is rather risky.  If there is a memory problem or something similar that is currently undetected, the system may crash during flashing and your board will be rendered useless.
    Quote
f yes, kindly outline the necessary steps
    What you need:
    - you need an internal floppy drive (properly connected to the board and 100% intact)
    - you need an empty & formated floppy disk (make sure you check it for errors before you use it)
    - you need a PS/2 Keyboard
    What you have to do:
    - download the latest BIOS-Archive file from here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1373
    - extract the BIOS File (e.g. A7380NMS.120), rename it to AMIBOOT.ROM [not AMIBOOT.120.ROM] and copy it to the floppy disk
    - insert the prepared floppy disk into the floppy drive attached to the P7N SLI Platinum and Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU
    - start the system and hit CTRL + HOME to force the system into recovery mode
If that does not work, try a different floppy drive & disk.  Don't complain is the system crashes during flashing if the recovery flash starts (system stability is your responsibility).
If you can't get the recovery routine to start and read the AMIBOOT.ROM file from the floppy disk, you need to install a supported processor.

  • How to Flash MSI bios - x99s gaming 7

using live update through windows - big NO NO as far as i understand.
downloading the Bios update file from MSI site - http://www.msi.com/support/mb/X99S-GAMING-7.html#down-bios
unpacking it and trying to run from dos mode from within windows (/CMD) - doesn't work.
it says not compatible with system (Probebly the 64bit windows).
trying through BIOS, M-flash, asks to be pointed to a USB key.
i tried extracting the BIOS update package from (http://www.msi.com/support/mb/X99S-GAMING-7.html#down-bios) to the USB key.
then back to bios, M-flash, pointed out to the USB key, chose the BIOS file "*.H40"- but then it says i don't have a file named - "ME" something.
so... how exactly one suppose to flash the bios ?
    cheers.

You are now on thin ice vmanuelgm. This thread is not your personel "vmanuelgm is correct" thread but a tech support thread and support for the OP (not you) is offered.
The forum method is the safest way there is and also safer than MFlash that will at least only update ME as well if that is manually selected what is not required using the provided archive. I will not discuss with you about experience in flashing but you should maybe consider that I have quite some knowledge in that regard.
Secondly you were not partially but fully wrong as you didn't say h42 is there but you said h42 would be the latest. Anyway nobody asked for a beta so OP can consider it if he is not happy with the latest official as this is no beta thread like I also already said.
If this will continue off-topic in any way I will clean sweep this thread from reply #4 on.
You should contact MSI to post your MSI HQ as first flash option in manuals, and getting it burned in DVD roms along with mobos...
Until then, MSI official flash methods are what you know, and MSI HQ is not between them...
I am not on any ice, not posting anymore here, with such genious and democratic moderators...
