How do I force an app to use a specific IP address if I have multiple IPs?
MacBook Pro
Retina, Mid 2012
Processor 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
I sometimes run simultaneously on Wifi through a wireless router and also connected to another router with an ethernet cable. I have applications that need to connect to different pieces of studio hardware, sometimes on one router, sometimes the other. The problem I have is sometimes the application that I am using will not look for the hardware on both routers. It checks the router that doesn't have the hardware and then never checks the other router. It indicates that It can't find my hardware. Is there any way through OS X to force or limit an application to check on a specific IP?
Thanks in advance.
Eddy
You can play with the 'route' command in an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session to specify which route a specific IP address should take.
man 8 route
Google can most likely give you examples you can use to specify routes.
Routes must be setup after each reboot.

I would like to make an in app purchase using the $20.00 credit that I have on itunes. I am using my i phone5. It does not give me the option of using the credit that I already have, only of using a credit card. How can I use the credt that I already have instead of a credit card?
Is Settings > General > Restrictions > In-App Purchases: ON (green)?
Some In-App Purchases works only with credit card. -
I need to find out how much wifi data my apps are using. I am on a very limited amount of WiFi data each month, which I am regularly exceeding. I have been told to work out which of my apps is using the data. Also, I think I have closed an app by double clicking the home button, then swiping the app up - is this the way to close it, or will it still be sending/receiving data?
Go into your Settings : General : and turn off background refresh for your apps. In Settings : Mail turn Fetch new data to OFF and Load Remote Images to OFF. This will mean that Mail will only check for messages when you actually use it, and all your advertising junk mail won't have all the images in it.
Turn off push notifications every chance you get.
Make sure you are actually quitting apps: to quit apps press the Home button twice and you should see a bunch of smaller screen images for every open app. To quit the app swipe from the screen image (not the icon) upward off the top of the iPad. You can swipe left and right to see more open apps, but there must be no left-right movement on the screen when you swipe upward to close the app.
Turn off your internet connection when you do not need it. The easiest way to do this is to swipe up from the bottom of you screen to get the control centre, and then touch the airplane to turn on airplane mode. You can repeat this sequence to turn it back on again when you need it. Most especially turn airplane mode on whenever you are sleeping your iPad for long periods. This will save battery life too. OR actually turn your iPad off - which means holding the power key down for several seconds until the red swipe bar appears, and then swipe to turn it off. If you go this route, note that it will take longer to turn on then it takes to wake from sleep. -
How can I determine which apps are using my megabytes so fast
Thank you . That answers my question, but I guess I need to know how to identify the usage for email and Internet. I'm thinking we may have an issue with our wifi at home going in and out. I guess my son should turn off his cellular when he is home for this reason?

How can I force Time Machine to use existing backup sparsebundle files?
I backed up both my OSX Mountain Lion MBP and MacOSX Snow Leopard iMac to the same USB Disk. I then plugged this USB Disk into my Time Capsule, and configured Time Machine in both macs to use it through the network. But Time Machine insists on creating new backup sparsebundle files, ignoring the existing ones. How can I force Time Machine to use the existing backups.backupdb sparsebundle files instead of creating new ones?
How can I force Time Machine to use the existing backups.backupdb sparsebundle files instead of creating new ones?
You can't. Time Machine works differently over a network than it does with a locally-attached drive. What you could do is delete the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume, which contains the backups you made via USB. You should then be able to backup to the same sparsebundle locally and over the network. But I wouldn't recommend doing that. Certainly don't do it unless you have at least one other complete backup (which you should have anyway.) -
HT1386 I have synced app from ipad to laptop. How do I open the app or use it?
I have synced apps from ipad to laptop. How dow I open the app and use it ?
iOS apps will only run under iOS. They cannot be opened, run or used on any other operating system, so they cannot be used on your laptop. The sync and transfer of purchases apps is merely to keep a copy of the app as backup on your laptop. While you can re-download any app you have from your iTunes/App Store account, that will only get your the latest release version. If you want to keep older or previous releases around as backup, then your only copies will be the ones you've copied over to your laptop for safekeeping.

I recently updated my primary email address associated with my Apple ID account.
Now when I go to App store on my iPad it still tries to login to the App store using the old email address I had associated with the account, and naturally my password doesn't work. I can't figure out how to tell my iPad to login using the updated email address.
So in effect I'm locked out of the app store and I currently have 26 updates waiting.
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting my IPad to iCloud with no luck.. However I cloud happens to show the correct/updated email address.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
ThanksDid you change the email for the Apple ID or did you create a new Apple ID? A new Apple ID cannot be used with content that was bought using a different Apple ID.

SRW2024 - Forcing clients to use a specific IP address (based on port)
With the SRW2024 managed switch, is it possible to force a client computer connected to a port to use a specific IP address (for example 192.168.1.30) and if the client tries to configure any other address which is not 192.168.1.30, the traffic is dropped and they essentially cannot access any LAN or internet resources?
Basically what I would like to do is associate an IP address with every port on the switch. It sounds like this would be possible using the IP based access control feature, however I wanted to confirm.
Thank You
Message Edited by RedWarrior on 12-05-2008 11:49 AMWell, I have contacted three different stores asking which hardware version they have in stock, (even providing instructions on how they can check)... Two of the three stores said they didn’t know what I was talking about and couldn’t check it for me, and the third one actually told me to contact Linksys and ask them... as if Linksys is supposed to know which hardware version their store carries!
So I guess I will have to ask once more if anyone here knows how long hardware version 1.2 (for srw2024) has been out? -
We have a large family, 5 kids and two adults all with iPads, iPhones, Mac Books, Servers.... How can we combine our purchases to use on all our devices. We have two Apple ID's and sometimes buy multiple copies because of how we are limited...
Hello Halfback71,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
If you are wondering how using multiple Apple IDs relate to iCloud, see Apple IDs and iCloud.
Best of luck,

On Apple TV my photo stream only shows six pictures - how do I get all photos to use as a screen saver. I have reset several times but it still only finds six pictures!!!!
I recently got apple tv but the photo stream only seems to show up those photos which I took in September and no others (ie. 20 out of around 100). Any ideas why the earlier photos on my photo stream in ipad don't show up on apple tv?

since installing the latest version... when I open a new window it opens everything I have minimized too... very annoying. How can I fix this, I minimize to go back to a window not have multiple windows open.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== after installed last version...Well, then isn't there some way to induce Firefox to give Windows parameters that make it open the fershlugginer window in the *same* position, instead of an offset position?

I've recently reinstalled OS X Mountain Lion on a laptop (completely and thoroughly erased the partitions of the previous installation), and on this freshly created system, after I sign in to the App Store (to download previous purchases), the system behaves as if packages are already installed - which they are not!
Under the Purchases tab, packages (such as Xcode or other previous purchases) are showing with a greyed out "INSTALLED" button on the right. Other packages (which have not been installed) are showing with a (pressable) button of "UPDATE". (For example, iPhoto has a newer version in Mavericks; it seems always possible to click on UPDATE and be prompted to install the latest version for Mountain Lion -- even though that process can be infinitely repeated). But iPhoto (along with any other packages) has not been installed to the host yet. /Applications/iPhoto.app and any others are not showing at all on the system, but App Store still believes that they're installed already (preventing a real install, or pretending that an upgrade is an upgrade and not an install). There are some packages which DO say "INSTALL". Those are the ones that I have never installed before on the laptop. So it appears to be possible to still install some packages - but that's the set that I do not want to install. So for example, now I can't seem to install Xcode or iPhoto or any other previously purchased applications. It seems pretty clear that there are some bugs here. But I am concerned about the source of the association - how is OS X determining that THOSE packages are "installed already", but others are not? Is the upstream App Store server keeping track of machine ID to make this determination? I heard at one point that App Store uses Spotlight internally - is it somehow querying that? Finally I wanted to confirm that this is really a complete reinstall. I set /dev/zero to the first few sectors of the raw hard drive in order to ensure that I could make a few partiiton table, and when I then reinstalled the system, I chose a different partition arrangement. I have no other drives connected. So it's truly a reinstall of the OS from scratch, and at the moment I can't see a clear way to install apps! I also had killed the App Store agent running in the background, moved away App Store related files in ~/Library/Caches/ and started again. Yet I get the exact same response. This is concerning from a privacy perspective too. Suppose the App Store server is encoding the list of installed packages and associating it with the host and then perhaps I sell the laptop. Now the list of apps may be available to a new user of the laptop. But it may only show if the same Apple ID is used.
In any case, I'd like to know how I can best move past this issue, workaround it, and install packages. Can I force an app to install, even if it's believed to be installed already? Can I attempt to do an "uninstall"? Any suggestions about this would be greatly appreciated.i also have a very similar problem my mac crashed due to a dodgy hard drive which has now been upgraded and snow leopard reinstalled and i cannot re install my purchased apps which is a pain in the back side any help please

How do I force BookmarkDAV_client.exe to use less resource?
Since my Windows iCloud Control Panel v2.0 update, BookmarkDAV_client.exe (BC) has run oddly. It steadily uses 25% CPU power and anywhere from 4MB to 700MB of RAM, both during computer idle or while I use software. How do I force BC to use less resource?
I solved my problem. I turned iCloud OFF, completely, on my PC. Now the issues it presented are non-existent. However, I do get a error message in iTunes (see below), which means yet another bug with iOS6. I look forward to the update to an update for iOS6 as soon as Apple programmers finish programming the OS and its built-in apps.
error msg:
iTunes could not sync bookmarks to the iPhone "[My] iPhone 3GS" because the iPhone canceled the sync.
