How do I force quit firefox?

The the tool and navigation bars are gone, I don't know why. Now I want to quit, or rather force-quit firefox. How in the world can I do it?
Methinks this browser is getting ever worse, with every new version!

Please change the title of this discussion, if you're only talking about how to make the command bar visible. Your title is misleading.
My problem is, how do you Force Firefox to QUIT when you want to shut down a session that is taking an unacceptable length of time to do whatever bulls* the programmers thought was so important that the didn't leave any exit points for Users to exit, for minutes at a time.

I have downloaded the new version of firefox for my mac. When I use it the hard disc is continually running and slowing down the function of the system.
When I want to quit it also mentions that I need to force quit firefox.

What do you have open in Safari? Also, open the Spin Control utility.

Thanks for responding....but isn't your potential solution designed for Windows users? I have a Mac.
If it does apply to Mac, I am also hoping for something simpler as this could take weeks to isolate the problem and it would be more efficient to use another browser for mail
Also, I should have added, this problem occurs only occasionally and seemingly only when I am taking some time to compose a message

• How do you force quit an import

My IPhoto will not quit because it says it is importing from a no name device that is not connected to the computer.  How do I force quit an import?

Option-command-Esc ... brings up a list of aplications that you can force quit.
Some tell you to hold the power button for a few seconds, but force-quits even the OS which can leave the OS in an incpmplete state, and should only be used when really required.

• How do you force quit an application

my mail is frozen and now so is safari what's going on and how do i force quit the apps

COMMAND-OPTION-ESC will bring up a Task Manager. Select the item and click on the Force Quit button.
CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the application's Dock icon and select Force Quit from the contextual menu.
Open Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder. Locate the application in the list, select it, click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Then click on the Force Quit button.

• The Menu bar is visible but not functional, I have to force-quit Firefox 4.0 every time I want to close the application.

This is a recurring but not constant problem I encounter while running Firefox 4.0 on my MacBook OSX10.6.7. The Menu bar across the very top of the screen will be visible, but none of the menus will work if I click on them (File, Edit, View, History, etc.) I have to force-quit Firefox and restart it to get it to work again.
Also, my pinned tabs have disappeared, for no apparent reason. And to be honest, this version is way slower and buggier than my old Firefox, and it's driving me nuts.

• How do I force quit calendar

My Calendar is frozen and will not allow me to refresh nor quit. How do I force quit ?

basil,
Try these steps:
1. Disconnect your computer from your internet connection.
2. From the  Menu, select Force Quit...>iCal.
3. Remove the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder.
4. Then open the Calendars Folder in that Library Folder, and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
5. Next open the Preferences Folder in the same Library Folder, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
6. Log out/in or restart, and open iCal.

• Why do I have to force quit firefox? All my plug-ins and add-ons are disabled, and still firefox cannot quit.

Apple Q and Firefox > Quit Firefox do not work. The only thing that works is FORCE QUIT.

If Firefox hangs (stops responding) when you try to clear the cache and cookies and you have already disabled all Extensions and Plugins from the Firefox (Tools) Add-ons manager, then the problem could be one of the files in your Firefox profile. See Firefox hangs and try creating a new Places database, by opening the profile folder (via "Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Show in Finder"), then quitting Firefox, and deleting the file(s) places.sqlite and places.sqlite-journal (if it exists).
If that doesn't help:
Try creating a new Firefox profile for testing (this will not remove your existing profile ; you can choose between the two in the Firefox Profile Manager). See Managing profiles for details. For other ideas, see Basic Troubleshooting.

• My email program keeps freezing on my iPad 3 , how do I force quit and get it working?

MMy iPad 3 mail program keeps freezing , how do I unfreze force quit and get it working?

You can force quit any program on iOS by double tapping the home button. This should bring up a swipe-able panel of all of the apps currently running. Simply swipe up on any app you want to close.
As an aside, all of the apps on this panel are backgrounded to some extent (i.e. waiting for you to come back) and are using some system resources. On older devices you may want to keep an eye on how many are there because it can be a performance drain. I've personally had this issue.

• Lately, when I get the "Unresponsive Script" message, Neither the cancel nor the complete script button will work and Firefox hangs so I have to Force Quit Firefox. What is wrong?

Here is the link below the message about the unresponsive script:
Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:554
Neither of the buttons will work "Stop Script" or "Continue" and since Firefox is frozen or just hanging, I have to Force Quit. Today I was trying to print off a confirmation for a convention and every time I was ready to print, the Unresponsive Script would show up and freeze the printing too. After 4 times, I finally made a Grab Shot of it to print.

ive also repaired disk permissions using disk utility and disk warrior.

• How come a force quit application would NOT quit?

Hi,
I have now had two instances when an application which I needed to force quit, would not quit.
Both instances were with _*Elgato EyeTV version 2.5(3011)*_. OK the application would look as if it quits and disappear form the screen, but when checking in the DOCK the little triangle is there there. There was an error message "-600".
I tried to repeat force quit to no avail. Douple clicking to restart the programme fully would not work either. Restarting would however resolve the problem.
I suppose I should have tried to kill the application in TERMINAL.
Any other explanations?
Has anybody else come across resilient applications like that?
Regards

Thanks,
I agree - force quit works better when first activating the Finder. If that gives you the rolling ball, trying the Activity Monitor is a good option.
But the two events I am referring to are clearly different: ok, I used the Blue Apple Force Quit option, but the application would only sort of 'half quit'. There would be an error message: - 600. Also the Activity triangle in the dock would still be there. It would again be listed as an active application in the Blue Apple 'Force Quit' window. Force quitting in this window, would again remove it from that list, but the triangle would remain unchanged.
Also starting the application again would not work. - OK, I did not try killing it in TERMINAL then,
as I was about to switch off anyway. I used the Blue Apple option for that. No problems with it.
Restarting later was without problems either.
It just looks as if this particular application Elgato EyeTV +*would get stuck 'half way' after force quitting*+... Odd!
Have you observed anything like that with any application?
Regards

• I accidentally unplugged my iphone from my computer before it finished importing, how do I force quit?

heeeelp

Howdy alexfromtexas,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
I'm not sure which application you were using to import the Photos from your iPhone, but if you follow the directions below you can force quit any app on your Mac.
Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, or press Command-Option-Esc
(this is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC).
Select the unresponsive app in the Force Quit window, then click Force Quit.
Force an app to close on your Mac - Apple Support
Have a good one,
Alex H.
