How do I force/re-install failed Leopard update (USB no longer works)?

Hi everyone,
The last Leopard update last week went smooth with two out of three of my Macs.
Unfortunately the update did not work well on my MacBook Pro 17". I let the update
run over night and in the morning it was still stuck on an "installing" screen. I had no
choice but to force a reboot. From what I can tell a lot of the system .kext files were
updated, but my kernel was not. How do I know this? Well my USB ports no longer work
(well at least with USB memory sticks). I checked my kernel version and it says 9.3.0. The
versions for the System.kext file under /System/Library/Extensions is showing 9.4.0.
Obviously I got far enough into the update that the newer system file works (almost)
with the older kernel.......
So how can I force this update to run again??? I really don't want to reload my MacBook Pro
from scratch. There must be a fix... Please help!
Thanks,
Mike Bender

Alternatively, restore your previous good and tested bootable backup/clone, then run the COMBO update again. Don't have one? Then take some time to peruse:

  • I have Leopard 10.5.8. How can i download and install Snow Leopard or Lion? Thanks.

Currently, I have Leopard 10.5.8. How can i download and install Snow Leopard or Lion? Thanks for your help.

You need to *call* Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE, as Ralph already said.
But "since one week" sounds like a direct translation of French "il y a".  You should call your local country's Apple suuport and ask.
Here is Amazon, from a "snow leopard buy" Google search: http://www.amazon.com/Mac-version-10-6-3-Snow-Leopard/dp/B001AMHWP8

  • HOW TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL OF LEOPARD?

UNFORTUNATELY MY IMAC COMES WITH TIGER PREINSTALLED AND NOT LEOPARD AS THEY PROMISE TO ME, THEY ARE GOING TO SEND ME A DISC... I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW CAN I DO A CLEAN INSTALL OF LEOPARD WITHOUT HAVIND TO INSTALLE IT OVER TIGER?
I think if i installed from whe tiger os, i will keep some parts of tiger.

If your mac is new and you do not have anything on your system that you want to save then do a new install, When the installer asks you to select the destination ( HD) also open the option button and select the new install and select the extended format for the HD. Also the archive and install should work well for you.

  • Mac:  How do you use the "Install Manager" to update Flash?

So on a Mac with 10.3.181.22 installed, I went to a web page and the "Adobe Flash Player Install Manager" ran and notified me that an update to Flash was available.
I didn't want to install this at that time, so I dismissed it.
How do I force another check for an installation update procedure?  If I manually run the Install Manager in /Applications/Utilities, it only gives me the option to *Uninstall* Flash Player and revisiting the web page (or running some other Flash animation) did not prompt me again that there was an update.
What am I missing to trigger the automatic notification/installation?
    - Steve

Hi, I'm not familiar with that Mac feature since I don't use a Mac. However, you can go to this site and Install:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
Also you can now use the automatic Flash Player notification for the Mac here:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager05.htm l
With this, the next time Flash Player has an update you will receive a prompt and can choose to "Install now"/"Remind me later" or "Don't Install"  I use it all of the time and the update is done in under 2 minutes!!
    Hope that helps,

  • After installing Snow Leopard I can no longer "save photos on computer" after inserting a memory stick to an HP Photosmart C5180 All in 1                                                                                           Photosmart C5180 All in one

    Hello,
When I insert a memory stick into my HP Photosmart C5180 All in one and I try to "save photos on computer" the printer reads: "You need to install device software". This all started happening after I installed Snow Leopard on my Mac 10.6.8. Can someone please advise on what I need to do?

Typically it's a good idea to uninstall any devices attached to the Mac before doing an upgrade.  This prevents problems that can be caused by the upgrade.  Below are the instructions for uinstalling and reinstalling the printer.  I'm also going to include a link to the full feature software and drivers for the printer.  Let me know what happens.

  • Can I Install Snow Leopard From USB On Another Mac?

    Hello everyone,
I own a 2010 macbook air that came with a snow leopard usb drive.
I've recently been given a 2008 macbook 4,1 that is running leopard.  I'd like to install snow leopard on this and use it as a secondary computer.  Will I be able to use the usb stick from my macbook air to update this computer from leopard to snow leopard?  If updating won't work would I be able to perform a fresh install of snow leopard from my usb drive?  Or is my only option to purchase a snow leopard dvd from apple?
    Thanks.

Ah! Thank you, Niel. Forgot about the "weird" Air models without any kind of optical drive. I realize to get the Air models as thin as Apple did required the removal of such a drive, but virtually every user who bought one had to then go out and buy an external DVD drive anyway so they could install their other purchased software.

  • HT204053 how to I remove an authorised computer when it is no longer working and accessible?

I want to deauthorise a couple of computers that is now no longer working. How can I do it as I have no access to the authorised computers.

If you no longer have, or access to, the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes,  go to "view your account info" on the itunes store, deauthorise all five,
(Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)
Then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time..

  • Installed Yosemite - audio line out no longer working

After installing Yosemite, sound will only play from my Mac Pro's internal speakers.
Opening Preferences > Sound and selecting Line Out has no effect.
Why does the Line Out no longer work with Yosemite?

    Update:
Seems issue with keyboard volume not working crops up again each time the system enters "sleep" mode.
Volume controls will visually make the volume appear to adjust on screen, but not affect sound level to external speakers.
Only solution I've found so far is a reboot.
Never encountered this with Maverick's or any previous OS.

  • How do I force clean install from shipped OS

I just installed a new SSD on my MBP and want to reinstall the OS using the Internet Recovery, since I do not have a disk or a bootable USB. After an alert comes up saying "To download and restore OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple", I have been getting the error "An error ocurred while preparing the installation. Try running the application again." I have checked the formatting of the drive etc. and that is all fine (mac as extended journal). From what I have read, An Internet Recovery with no Recovery Partition on the hard drive should install the OS that the computer shipped with, but I see that it is trying to run the Mavericks Installer. I have upgraded drives on this computer before using Internet Recovery (it worked seamlessly before), but this is the first time since I upgraded to Mavericks. So I believe this is the problem. Is there a way to force it to the shipped OS installer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A side note if useful: the MBP is from mid-2010 meaning it shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.3 or 10.6.4, but I later upgraded to Mountain Lion I believe through a paid upgrade.

Make a bootable clone to an external firewire drive, and use the free application Carbon Copy Cloner to copy over your entire drive. Then, install any way you like. You can then have a backup of everything, that should be bootable (test it) if you have trouble.
I would add to be sure to test the clone by booting into it before assuming it works.
