How do I format a DVD copy for multi-zone or Zone 1?
Final Cut Pro X version 10.1.3
I have to send a DVD copy to a festival. They need it formatted for multi-zone or for Zone 1 (North America). How can I make sure it's formatted like that?

I don't claim direct experience with that, but I *believe* (as in "I could be wrong, but")  that if you burn a DVD from inside FCP X, the program will take a clue from the frame rate of your project: a 25fps project will produce a PAL DVD, a 29.97 will do NTSC.

Great hearing for you all! I thought I was all alone this past weekend. I did learn a lot this weekend. I really like the InDesign product.(half-the-battle) But to be helped by the prestigious “Sandee Cohen” was an honor indeed.”  I ordered the InDesign CC today.  Peter, I appreciate all the feedback on Lynda too. They are loaded with lots of good videos. after making the photo slide show, i clicked share>export movie.  after which i burned using toast. the file became a .mov.  i tried playing it in my mac and it worked. my fear now is will it also play in a regular dvd?... i read from google that mov files won't run in dvd players.  what format should i convert it to so it'll play in a dvd player.  can you suggest a faster way i can burn my projects for it takes me almost an hour to export.  im going to make 28 slideshows for my kids in school. *=( if i need to do this process 28 times, i may not be able to finish it on time.  please suggest a software or an alternative as to how i should do this... m more comfortable using imovie than iphoto.  thanks and i hope to hear from someone soon *=j

Thank you QuickTimeKirk...used toast to burn project... my project was in .mov, i tried to play it a dvd player, it did play... will try again tomorrow using another dvd player just to be sure it'll will really work with dvd players.  thank you again for your reply *=)

  • How do I make a DVD cover for a standard DVD holder (190 x 135 x 14mm) in Photoshop Elements 12?

How do I make a DVD cover for a standard DVD holder (190 x 135 x 14mm)? I would like for it to be easy so I can fold the finished product and the front cover, spine, and back cover will all be in the correct space when inserted into the DVD holder. I know there is a "create DVD cover" option in Photoshop Elements 12, and I've tried that, however the dimensions never come out correctly. Can anyone help? Thank you!

    Easy.
You should format the drive on the PC.
For most compatability and for any files under 4GB in size format in Windows FAT32  (MSDOS on Mac)
For any sized files 4GB or more, then format exFAT in Windows.
If your running a Windows XP machine, search Microsoft for a free download and install exFAT for XP.
FAT or exFAT can both be read and written too by Mac's and PC's alike.
Most drives come from the factory already formatted FAT, if this is what you want then there is nothng you need to do.
If Windows asks to format the drive then choose FAT or exFAT, but not NTFS.
A bit harder, if you have no choice but to format the drive on the Mac, then open Apple's Disk Utility and hook up the drive, select tthe drive on the far right, it should be obvious with the drive makers name and size, select that it's on the far left.
Now select Partition Tab, Options: MBR, format: MSDOS (FAT) or exFAT and click apply.
that's it, but I suggest you format on the PC for better results.

  • Apple TV2 missing analog audio output for multi-zone system

Found out the hard way that most receivers can't support digital audio in multiple zones (i.e., Zone 2). Since Apple TV2 (ATV2) dispensed with any analog output, if you have a whole-house system that depends on mult-zone to distribute audio to various speakers, you won't be able to use ATV2 to stream music to anything other than Zone 1. The only outputs are HDMI and optical (both digital audio). I think I found a work around (which, of course costs more money) which is a "de-embedding" device from Atlona that takes HDMI in and splits out the audio to analog and passes the HDMI through to the receiver. The analog audio output then lets me connect to the analog in on the receiver so it can stream to all zones. I figure Apple just didn't have enough real estate on the new product to make room for analog, but it's a pain. Hope this helps someone. If anyone knows a better work-around, I'd love to hear it.

I have the same issue with a MacMini I use for music. My solution was to use an inexpensive optical splitter - one feed to the optical input of my receiver and the second to a DAC. Then run standard RCA audio cables from the DAC to the analog Zone 2 inputs.
Here is a link for a DAC
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&pid=6884&seq=1&format=2
They should have the splitter as well.

  • How Do I Detemine Maximum DVD Time For A PCM Audio DVD

I have been working with my CS2 Premiere to create some auto play, audio-only DVDs that are autoplay.  To clear the air, yes I know that CS4 will permit 24bit-96 kHz.  For the time being 16 bit-48 kHz will suffice as it has CD quality  The bonus that a DVD format provides a greater playing times.  So the object is to make a PCM audio only DVD.
Here is my problem: How to get really long playing time.  I know I can make high quality, 2-channel (ordinary stereo)  DVD-A's up to 3 hours using Minatonka Bronze.  Unfortunately, DVD-A discs are worthless as they cannot play in 90% of DVD players, but they prove the time point.  I would think that one should be able to make a conventional DVD, but with the PCM sound format of that same length.
I just finished one that fit with a 103 minute, 16/48 stereo audio file of 1.11 GB size.   I also had a video file that I created using several photos. Sorry, don't have the final video file size.  I erased it all from my computer.  However, the final disc size was 3.754 GB.  A little extrapolation suggests a maximum DVD length of 119 minutes.  That with simple video and PCM audio.  Now, can one make a similar DVD with 150 minutes?
I had three 48 kHz files that I created in Adobe Audion.  They were 1.599, 0.911, and 0.974 GBs in size.  That added up to 3.480.  The playing time is about 2:30 Hours; quite a bit less than 3 hours.   I tried burning a DVD with these, audio-files-only.  I checked lowest quality video, used no video, and got an Export To DVD error that I had "insufficient" space on the 4.7 GB disc!  So, I used the two latter files, which added to only 1.884 GB.  Premiere did not baulk, and it successfully burned a DVD that played.  Then I added the 1.599 GB file, and, once again, it produced an error.  This was clearly not going to work.
At this point, I realized that Audition had done what it liked to do: It had saved the 16 bit-48 kHz files as 32 bit-48 kHz!  So, I went back to Audition and used EDIT to change the files to genuine 16 bit-48 kHz files.  When I opened them in Premiere, Premiere reported 16 bit-48 kHz files.  Their sizes were now, 0.799, 0.456, and 0.487 GB.  Please note that this totals 1.742 GB.  This is less than the 1.884 GB I had successfully used before.   Once again, I was getting the "insufficient" space error.
I searched the CS2 Premiere manual and its index, but cannot really find any way to calculate maximum times, or squeezing the most out.  So, anybody got some ideas?
    Mike

When working from DVD-Videos, this ARTICLE might be helpful - All VOB's (the container for the MPEG-2 files in a DVD-Video) are not created equally.
Most DVR's write a VOB 01, that is not up to the DVD-specs. That can create a problem for PrE (and also PrPro), and if you have issues, please do follow Neale's advice.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.

  • How Do I Format My Macintosh HD for Use as Data Drive?

    Hi!
I recently bought two Maxline Pro 500 Gig hard drives to add to the 2 hard drives I received with my MacPro. But they're so fast and quiet I decided to use one of them as my boot drive and will be cloning the Macintosh HD to the one. I got that procedure. But, if I want to use the original Macintosh HD for data do I have to reformat and zero it out?
If so, please tell me what the procedure is.
Thanks so much! You guys are such a big help. Thanks Ned for the Maxline Pro recommendation. They're great. I copied about 500 videos (200 mgs each) to it the other night and it was finished by the time I brushed and flossed .

Mac Pro 2.66ghz, Macbook Pro. Macbook, PowerMac G5 Dual Core   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi!
My Mac Pro has yet to arrive (hopefully Wed), but this topic has stirred my interest.
I've got two Maxline Pro 500G drives waiting here for their new home Not sure yet if I'd change the boot drive, but if I decide to do so, could someome please explain how I'd go about making the change so that one of the new drives is the boot drive? (or point me in a direction and I'll read up on it)
And one other question....and this is prob going to sound lame, but does it matter which bay the HD which contains the OS is in? Basically, if I decide to have the OS on one of the new drives which is in, say, bay 2 would I have to change its location to the first bay?
Any help/advice would be greatly apprecited...thanks in advance!

  • How do I format a hard drive for data recovery?

    Hi,
My intel iMac got written over with a bootable Windows XP. So I hooked up my sister's Powerbook PPC and in target disk mode I'm running File Salvage which is finding hundreds of thousands of files.
Just ordered a G-Tech Quadra 500GB drive from Apple which is supposed to arrive Thursday. For now I'm going to save the File Salvage findings and then import them back to my sister's laptop to move to my new hard drive.
I've never owned an external drive so a few questions. Do I need to format the drive first and if so how? Do I then need to load OSX Tiger onto the new drive? If so how do I do that? Am I using the OSX install on my sister laptop and booting that to my external drive? Or am I putting my intel version of OSX in my iMac and booting that to the external drive? A little confused how this all works.
Can I partition the drive later on since I'll need at least 160GB to store all the files that File Salvage finds from my iMac.
Ideally I'd like to partition the drive load Tiger on there and transfer over my files from one partition to the Tiger partition to make sure everything is intact first before doing and erase and install on my iMac. Is this possible and if so how? Which Tiger disk would I use the Powerbook or the iMac one?

I got my drive and am about to partition but notice it's already been formatted at the factory but instead of being 500 GB it's like 465.5 GB and says that 180.8 MB have been used and there are 4 folders and 10 files when I look at the drive itself in Disk Utility.
You are experiencing the "myth of the megabyte." Consider my MacBook Pro's "160 GB" hard drive. Disk Utility reports that the Total Capacity is "149.1 GB (160,041,885,696 Bytes)." See the trick: The size, when expressed in billions of bytes is less than the capacity expressed in GB, because each conversion from bytes to kilobytes (kB) to MB to GB involves a factor of 1/1024 (remember, this is binary math).
So, scaling from my MacBook's internal drive:
    500 "GB" x 149 GB / 160 "GB" = 466 GB
sounds like your drive is just about right.
I doubled clicked the drive and see nothing inside so not sure why it's saying 10 files and 4 folders.
Spotlight, Trash, and other "housekeeping" functions create hidden files. I don't understand why they would be taking up so much space on an empty drive (181 MB), but that won't matter once you repartition.
Should I erase the drive first before partitioning it? Or just go ahead an partition?
The process of partitioning, which is followed by formatting (see my previous post) will obliterate anything left on the drive (beyond the physical demarcation of sectors necessary for the drive to operate).
So, if there is nothing on the drive to be preserved, you may proceed immediately.
Please write back to let us know how things went.

  • How do I format my new ipod for windows?

I already have itunes 7 on my computer. I have read that the ipods come formatted for a mac, and you need to format them for windows. I have read about opening the updater. The updated is not listed as a program on my computer. I also would not want to run the updater and accidentally update the firmware. Some posts have said you just need to plug in the new ipod and it works. I do not expect to be that lucky.

    Hi,
There's a full description regarding creating you Recovery Media on the following link - personally, I'd choose good quality DVD +R discs ( Verbatim, Sony etc ) and you'll often need between 4-6 discs depending on the size of your Recovery Image - the amount required will be shown when you start the process.

  • How do I set default dvd drive for burning

I am looking for a way to set a default dvd writer.
The system I am working on has multiple writers attached (one is a duplicator).
Unfortunately, the software or OS seems to latch on to the most recently added drive.
In one instance it defaulted to a removable backup drive we attached.
I have been getting around this by using the "build and burn" option then using the drop down box to select the proper DVD writer.
Is there a way to set a default and eliminate this step and the confusion that results when people instinctively click "burn" and the machine tries to write to improper locations?
Thanks for your help, this has been a thorn in my side for quite some time.
