How do I forward/open ports?

Need to open some ports to FaceTime behind a wireless firewall on my iPhone... no idea where/how to open ports. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thank you!!

You do it on the router.
What brand and model is your router?

  • How to forward/open ports for WRT54G?

    Hi. I recently bought a WRT54G because my old router was destroyed by lightening and thunder. I have managed to set it up, and got the interent itself to work with static IP adress (192.168.1.101 for my PC).
    However, even though I have tried to forward/open ports for applications like uTorrent and DC++ as well as Limewire, I have no luck. When I test if the ports are indeed opened, I get the result that they are not. Here are how my port forward setting looks like for utorrent. The port in the settings image is of course the same as in uTorrent.

    I can't seem to open any ports, even though I have followed tutorials like the ones at portforward.com. I have the latest firmware for my router, as I flashed it when I got it. Help .

    Yes, I did .
    Anyways, look what I found in the uTorrent FAQ:
    1.7 Special note for users with Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS routers, there are severe problems with them when running any P2P application
    To fix it, they say one has to flash with a unofficial firmware, but I will rather get the money back and buy another router tomorrow. Thanks for the help anyways .

    How to Port Forward on AEBS

  • How tonsee how much IO each open port is doing?

    Hi all,
    Is there any way to see how much IO each open port is doing?
    Netstat, lsof and portstat all show the open ports. I want to see how much IO each is doing. Even better would be an historical list.
    Seems like such a useful piece of data that one would think that the command exists and is probably some option on netstat or something that I have missed.
    I will even write the C program to extract the information from the kernel if that data exists but is not available from an existing command.
    I suppose if nobody knows what that command would be perhaps they can point me toward the kernel docs to see if I can find the information in the OS?
    Thank you.

    tcpdump
    DESCRIPTION
    Tcpdump prints out a description of the contents of packets on a net-
    work interface that match the boolean expression. It can also be run
    with the -w flag, which causes it to save the packet data to a file for
    later analysis, and/or with the -r flag, which causes it to read from a
    saved packet file rather than to read packets from a network interface.
    In all cases, only packets that match expression will be processed by
    tcpdump.

    is ther anyway for java to view the open ports of a remote machine.

    What you are asking, it the first step towards the dark art. But then, why make a tool for yourself, I am sure there would be plenty available.

  • Torrents, how do I open ports

    I have a Netgear DG934G Router from Sky which is broadcasting a 'B/G' only network. To this, connected by ethernet I have an Airport Extreme which runs a seperate 'N' only network. The Extreme is set to bridge and the Netgear distributes the IP addresses.
    How would I use Transmission? How do I forward the ports on the extreme to allow it to download?
    I use the B/G network for my partners laptop and the iPhone and I use the N network for my macbook, apple tv and my Airport express to stream music.

    ...I am wondering why then does my apple tv not pick up on the N network, only the G network?
    The ability to pick up the wireless signal from the AEBS has absolutely nothing to do with opening ports. This relies only on the strength and quality of the RF signal reaching the Apple TV.
    Also I wanted to use an Extreme to extend the N network but when I am trying to set it up, it will not see the N network in the Airport Utility.
    I am confused. If the AEBS is creating the N network how is it going to extend the N network?

  • How to forward a port

    Since installing the New Airpot Extreme Time Capsule one of my torent sites shows as not Connectable ....  how do you forward a port?  I have set up a guest network on the router but I myself am not on it.

    Port forwarding in the TC is outlined in the articles here.
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/airport?view=documents
    see port mapping in v6 utility.
    Good luck .. the TC and AE do open their ports easily.

  • How to know Active or open ports on a system

    How to know he open ports on a system.
    N e idea.
    regards,
    Rajesh Vincent.

    Using the Java Communications API you can use the static method CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers to enumerate the available ports on the system, like:
    Enumeration ports = CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers();
    while (ports.hasMoreElements()) {
      CommPortIdentifier port = (CommPortIdentifier) ports.nextElement();
      switch (port.getPortType()) {
        case CommPortIdentifier.PORT_PARALLEL:
          // it's a parallel port (called port.getName())
          break;
        case CommPortIdentifier.PORT_SERIAL:
          // it's a serial port (called port.getName())
          break;
        default:
          // WTF?
          break;
    }To know whether you can open the port I think you can use the isCurrentlyOwned() method. To open the port use the open(java.lang.String appname, int timeout) method (you'll get a PortInUseException if the port is already in use)

  • How do I open ports on my airport extreme and assign a fixed IP Address for a device connected to my network?

    I recently had a security system installed in my house.  One of the features is an EPAD which enables me to have a virtual keypad on my iphone, and computer to operate the alarm system.  The technician was not familiar with Mac's and Airports.  How do I open port 80 to 80 in my airport and assign a fixed IP address for the EPAD?  Apparently this is what is needed to make this work.

    There are three ranges of "strictly local" IP addresses reserved for local Network use:
    192.168.xxx.yyy
    172.16.xxx.yyy
    10.xxx.yyy.zzz
    What your Router does for you is to act as your agent on the Internet.Your requests are packaged up and forwarded on your behalf, and only when a response is expected is the response returned to your local IP address.
    Directing Network Traffic to a Specific Computer on Your
    Network (Port Mapping)
    AirPort Extreme uses Network Address Translation (NAT) to share a single IP address with the computers that join the AirPort Extreme network. To provide Internet access to several computers with one IP address, NAT assigns private IP addresses to each computer on the AirPort Extreme network, and then matches these addresses with port numbers. The wireless device creates a port-to-private IP address table entry when a computer on your AirPort (private) network sends a request for information to the Internet.
    If you’re using a web, AppleShare, or FTP server on your AirPort Extreme network, other computers initiate communication with your server. Because the Apple wireless device has no table entries for these requests, it has no way of directing the information to the appropriate computer on your AirPort network.
    To ensure that requests are properly routed to your web, AppleShare, or FTP server, you need to establish a permanent IP address for your server and provide inbound port mapping information to your Apple wireless device.
    To set up inbound port mapping:
    1) Open AirPort Utility, select your wireless device, and then choose Base Station > Manual Setup, or double-click the device icon to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the password if necessary.
    2) Click the Advanced button, and then click Port Mapping.
    3) Click the Add button and choose a service, such as Personal File Sharing, from the Service pop-up menu.

  • Don't know how to open ports

    Hello.
    Could someone please tell me how to open ports on my LinkSys WRV200 Wireless-G VPN Router.
    Thank you.

    Open up internet explorer. On the address bar type the numbers 192.168.1.1 (username is admin, password is admin as well). Go to the Firewall tab. Depending on what kind of port opening you want, you either click on the Port Triggering or Port Forwarding subtab.
    If you are hosting a certain program or application, use port forwarding. If you are just simply trying to use and access it, use port triggering.

  • SRP527W - How to open port 491 for Go-Global apps

    Hi Guys,
    Recently bought a Go-Global to a remote which require to open port tcp 491. I'm using SRP527W,  how configure using this devices, I tried using the port forwarding but failed.  Need anyone can help thanks.

    I have the same request, and have tried the steps written in the post online, but the screen options are not what was explained.
    Per the instructions with my IP Camera support, here's what I need to do:
    ======
    First thing you will need to do is make sure that in the network settings of your camera that you have entered the correct gateway and DNS information. The default gateway address is going to be the LAN IP address of your router. The primary DNS address is also going to be the LAN ip address of your router. For the secondary DNS address enter the address 4.2.2.2, save these settings in your camera.
    The second thing you will need to do is, you will need to log into your router and forward the port your camera is using (the default port is port 80) to the LAN IP address of your camera. This will be done in the port forwarding section of your router. You may need to contact the manufacturer of your router to have them walk you through these steps.
    In order to access your camera, you will need to use the WAN (public) IP address that was provided to you by your ISP. As an example, the URL will look like this, HTTP://65.44.139.2 or if you are using a different port number other than 80, you will have to use the URL with the port number. That URL would look exactly like this, HTTP://65.44.139.2:81
    ======
    I've changed the secondary DNS to 4.2.2.2, but I cannot find how to forward the camers's port to the IP address of the camera....I've set 198.268.1.240 as the camera address.
    Can you help?
    Thanks,

  • WRT100- VOIP port forwarding/"opening?"

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to get two VOIP phones (actual phones, not soft phones ) set up at my company's newest satellite office.
    I'm starting by just trying to get one to work.  I have set up that particular phone with a DHCP reservation (thanks, Linksys for adding that feature!), and attempting to forward the ports that the phone system manufacturer says I need to.  However, it's obvious that some of the traffic isn't getting through (if I dial a number on the phone from the remote office, I can hear the call progress, however the other party can't hear me talking on the VOIP phone).  The phone works fine when it's on the company's LAN at the main office.  Our phone tech, who installed the system, says he can get into the main office phone system from his office with an IP phone, and has in fact called me from our office phone system using the said phone.
    This tech also claims I need to not use port forwarding, but rather "open the ports" on the router.  Huh? (I believe that this won't work unless both phones have public IP's...and I'm not going to do that! I couldn't anyways, the DSL connection only has one public IP).
    Also, this is going to get real interesting when I have to add the second phone to the remote office...how is the router going to be able to forward ports to both phones (same port numbers)?  Thoughts, anybody?

    Just for the record - I'm not a Linksys employee, and neither are 99.9% of the other posters on this board. Like the others, we answer questions like yours for the challenge and satisfaction of helping others.
    I didn't spend a lot of time reading the documentation for your phone system, but I find it difficult to believe that it would need more than one IP. The control unit of the system should be able to handle what amounts to a form of network address translation (NAT) which is what the router does. If the system is working for you, that's a good thing, but you might want to contact the support people for the phone system and see if there's a better way to add more phones without needing additional IPs.
    Putting multiple IPs into a DMZ can be accomplished in business class routers from Cisco and other manufacturers. The WRT series are designed for residential and small office applications.
    Glad to see your problem is solved - good luck!

  • How do you set up Port Forwarding for ARD 2.2 in AEB N?

    Help,
    I'm a novice at Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) - not an IT guy, so it has to be pretty basic and detailed.
    How do you set up Port Forwarding for ARD 2.2 on the Apple Airport Extreme BS router, 802.11 N. I have one at each end of the internet connection. At one end I have an Airport Extreme N router with 2 macs and eventually 1 windows XP machine (if I can) that I would like to be able to connect to over the interenet (the clients) and at the other end, I have a Mac with ARD 2.2 installed also with an Airport Extreme N router. Note: Both routers use Static IP addresses and all computers use static IP's internally not through DHCP. What are the settings or directions to do this.
    I have read and printed out the directions for Configuration of ARD 3.0 that are posted many times in the ARD discusion group, but it uses a Linksys router ( http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm posted by Dave Sawyer). The Mac router is different, particularly with the place to set a Private IP address. I'm not sure about alot of things, but especially about the Private IP address, what number do I set it to, the one that is in my Network connections list? It automatically changes to a different number in AE N setup for Port Forwarding (by one) as if it is not suppose to the same?????
    Are there any directions available that are as straight forward for the Airport Extreme N router, as the one's that are listed here for the Linksys Router's? ( http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm )
    Any and All help will be greatly appreciated.
    P.S. I know I should have 3.0 but bought 2.2 just weeks before 3.0 came out and they would not give me an upgrade price, so I'm waiting for 4.0 to upgrade.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Try the following for each AirPort Extreme ...
    AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
    To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:

    I have an Airport Extreme as my router, and I have a Windows-based computer. I need to open ports on the router (ironically, it is for my Apple TV).
