How do I free up space on my IPad? I can't remove the photos and can't download the IOS

How do I get the pictures off my I Pad?  They cannot be deleted and I need more storage to download the new OS?

If you normally sync to a computer, you can do the update via that and y ou don't need to have the free room to download the update.
If you normally don't,then do you have content you can delete? such as songs from iTunes or movies from iTunes? you can always delete them to make room, then redownload them after the update.
Or if you have apps that are taking up room you can temporarily delete them. Settings and usage will show you which apps are taking up the most room.

  • I lost all of my photos and videos after download of iOS 5? how do I get them back?

So I updated to OS 5 last night an low and behold I lost all of my photos and videos? how do I get them back, I did do my download on my mac book pro. I would have thought that all of that stuff would have transferred automatic during the download of 5, but I guess that would make too much sense? So how do I get that stuff back?

I did the same thing last night also with my MacBook Pro.  None of my music, video or photos not taken originally on my iphone were  reloaded back onto my phone.  I received an error message instead.  I had to just re-drag the music and videos that I wanted back to my iphone.  As far as my photos taken on my iphone...by chance, I had just backed those up earlier that day.  I'm not sure where the photos are that I had put on my iphone in the beginning...they still show up in people's contacts, but they no longer show up under photos - ?  This is very frustrating!

What is the "other" that is taking up so much space and how do I manage this?

"Other" is basically anything that cannot be categorized into media or documents on the device. It consists of Safari History, Bookmarks, Notes, Contacts, email messages, text messages, SMS messages (on an iPhone), photos associated with contacts....that type of content is what is on the "other" storage. You certainly can't and don't want to get rid of all of it. The "normal" amount of "other" is open to some debate - IMHO - but it should not be more than say 4 or 5 GB and most people claim it should be around 500 MB to 1.5 GB or so.
If your "other" has bloated to double digits, like 10 or more, you have a serious corruption issue of some sort. Sometimes the only way to rid the device of this storage is to restore as new. I do stress "sometimes" because, sometimes there are other fixes that will rid the bloated "other" from the device.
    use Google to find more.

  • HT4914 If I use the iCloud tune match will it free up space on my iPad?

If I use the iCloud tune match will it free up space on my iPad?

If you delete the music from the iPhone, yes. But perhaps you should be looking at what else is taking of storage on the iPhone, back it up, and delete those things as well.

  • I am trying to burn a dvd and it will not allow me to do this because it states that i do not have enough space for encoding disk. how do i free up space and from where?

I am trying to burn a dvd and it will not allow me to do this because it states I do not have enough space for encoding. how do i free up space and from where?

iDVD can only use your startup hard disk for the "scratch space" it needs for calculations during the encoding process.  25 GB is a good average requirement, but a large project (3 or 4 hours of content) might require more.
To free up space, you will have to move items to an external hard drive and/or delete items you no longer want.
Please note that iDVD can't use and external hard drive for this "scratch space".

  • How do I free up space on an I-phone 4 to allow a downlaod of IOS 7

Just tried to update my I-Phone 4 to IOS 7 and was told I didn't have enough space to do so. How do I free up space to allow the upgrade? I could free up 5.6 GB by deleting photos which are already saved in I-Cloud. How do I do that?

Import them to your computer and delete them from your phone as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  After updating, put the photos in a folder and sync them back to your phone by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.
You could also sync all your music off, then sync it back on after updating.

  • What is the procedures to free some space on my ipad to download videos?

What is the procedure to free some space on my ipad 2 so I can download videos?

Texas Mac Man, I'm having a similar problem with my kids' iPods!
I have reviewed the Usage on my son's iPod.  I added up the storage space of all the apps.  It is 2.1GB.  This is what the "Apps" category shows is being used.  The "Other" category shows it's using 2.3GB.  It is only an 8GB iPod, so this "Other" is eating up a ton of space.  He has no videos, only pictures he's taken (which isn't very many), apps (I keep those at a minimum), and music (which I also keep tight control over).  How do I find out what this "Other" is, and how do I get rid of it?  I've read other posts which say I have to perform a factory restore, which wipes everything out, then restore again from the latest backup, with no guarantee that the "Other" will go away.  I've also read horror stories about the factory restore causing problems with the basic function of an iPod.  I called Apple Support, and the young man I spoke to asked around said that the data while using an app (games like MyHorse and Angry Birds) is stored in the "Apps" category.  How can I be sure of this?  He has a game we've put a lot of time, energy, and some money into.  I do not want this to be lost. I'm assuming that backing up from the lastest backup of the iPod will prevent this, but how can I be sure that the game information isn't part of the "Other"?  I'm frustrated and confused by all the conflicting information I've read.  Can you help?

heidie22, dj_paige has a very good point there. I would not through away the NEF files; I would archive them to a external drive.
By the way, I am assuming that converting RAW files to DNG is a decision you have made and not an accident.
