How do i Fresh intall?

How do i intall a fresh copy os os X on my macbook im used to the install routine on windows xp, does it format on its own? is there a guide?

Well you can boot from your disc by holding down the C key while the computer is starting up. What will happen is the installer won't let you install on your disk because it already has an OS. But you can either go to Utilities in the Menu bar and open Disk Utility and actually erase the drive and start from scratch. Once the drive has been erased then the installer will install the OS.
Or maybe a much better way would be to do an Archive & Install which basically installs the OS while still leaving all your personal data and application in place.
Obviously if you erase and reinstall you'll need to back up your data (which is also true regardless of the route you take). An archive and install works very well and in most cases is all you'll need to do.
As far as your second question. You can erase and when you run the installer choose "Custom" and it will allow you to forgo much of the extra stuff you think you don't need.

    I don't know what version you have, or whether your license uses a serial number or you bought a subscription.
    If you tell us what you have, the version as well as whether the license is for Windows or Mac we can give better advice.

  • How to get fresh jsp 'page' rather than from cache?

    Hello
    I am using about 5 jsp pages. some of the jsp call other JSPs. When a jsp calls another jsp (by button clicking), the target jsp opens but it does not shown the fresh contents. I have to make it fresh by clicking the fresh botton of IE explorer. How can I get fresh jsp when it is called from another jsp? Will be grateful for any help.
    I am using IE5 and tomcat4.0

    You need to tell IE not to cache your pages. For IE 5 something like this should work:
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>---</TITLE>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="-1">
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    </BODY>
    <HEAD>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">

    </HEAD>

  • Reinstall remembering old info, how to start fresh??

    ok after a re-install of xp i installed itunes but accidentally left my external hard drvie on during and it was included in the media search. this is a problem because i have backed up my music on the external drive so it is comin up more than once,ive tried uninstalling and re-installin but it doesnt go thru the media search process instead it just installs the player and automatically has links to the duplicate songs.
    the second problem i have is that it is duplicating songs twice on the primary drive anyway.its not converting them to aac (i made sure that didnt happen) so i now have each song in itunes 3 times which is extremely frustrating when searching fo music.
    any suggestions how i can start a fresh install without duplicate songs???

    HI foro-mark , just been watching this thread.
    I had this issue on our G5 QUAD suddenly from FCS 1 compressor (2) and could only finally resolve it by completely reinstalling the OS and the .apps.
    yes.. sounds harsh, but fruitless hours of messing around I finally resorted to it. I could perform QMASTER work on another STARTUP volume as a test BTW, so assumed some corruption of one of the component resources used by QMASTER task on production startup disk.
    It was clear that the addressing excetpion at x'00000000000....' was caused by a bad pointer form a register.... so data driven I expect becase by other system was ok.

  • How to Start Fresh?

    Hey guys,
    So my MBPr is acting up, Time Machine is taking forever, Spotlight keeps reindexing for hours and whole bunch of unexplained processes that is eatting up my resources like Fontworker never stops running...etc.  So I am kind of fed up.  And yes I read almost every post on the internet to remedy these issues before I posted.
    I do have a latest Time Machine backup.  Now my question is how can I do a fresh start but without losing my data/setup?
    If I wiped the drive and install fresh copy of Mavericks, and if I migrate from my TM, will it put back all the crap that was happening mentioned above as well?  Or will it just copy the apps...etc over?
    Thanks!

    ... Now my question is how can I do a fresh start but without losing my data/setup?
    You can do as you described and then use Migration Assistant to migrate your essential files. When doing so, select your User account but do not migrate "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" or "Other files and folders". You will need to re-create certain preferences such as its network configuration, and you will need to reinstall any essential programs you may require.

  • How do I fresh-install OSX ML without the disk?

    Hello guys,
    Sorry I am kind of newbie with this stuff but I have a question and I hope you can help.
    I have a Macbook Pro 2010, it originally had "OSX Snow Leopard" installed and it came with a "recovery disk".
    So, when OSX Mountain Lion came up, I bought the digital version from the Apple Store and installed it, so my mac is currently running on Mountain Lion.
    Now, I need to backup my stuff and then format my mac. As I have lost my recovery disk, I cannot use the restore feature which came with it. I have only one partition which is called "Macintosh HD" which has everything in it.
    My question is:
    -If I have pre-installed version for the Macbook Pro, should I only use the recovery disk (which I don't have) to format?
    -If I don't need the original disk, can I make my own recovery disk with "Mountain Lion"? If that exists, is it safe to do that? Can the software find my original key and etc. when I do it?
    -How do I format my mac if I can solve the questions above?
    Thank you very much in advance, I appreciate the help.

    Take a look at this article on the Recovery HD. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    When you installed Mountain Lion, it installed a Recovery partition on the hard drive. You can't see it normally, but if you hold down cmd-r when you restart, as Chris and Niel suggested, it will boot into that recovery partition. From there you can erase your Macintosh HD volume and reinstall the OS. You'll need to know the AppleID you used to purchase Mountain Lion in order to reinstall.
    The bootable clone suggested by Niel is handy to have if anything goes wrong. You'll have something to fall back on while you try to sort out the problems.
    You will likely need the replacement disks, as Niel suggested. If you have to install a bare hard drive, you won't be able to install Mountain Lion directly. You'll have to install Snow Leopard first, then upgrade it to Mountain Lion. So, you need the original disks. As also mentioned, all of iLife will be on those disks. The OS does not have iPhoto, iMovie, etc. Those come bundled with a Mac, but are not part of the OS.

  • HOW TO INSTAL FRESH OS ...BUT ONLY THAT!!!

    Disc Utility when "cheking the disc tells me:
    Invalid volume directory count
    (It should be 86832 instead of 86834)
    Invalid volume file count
    (It should be 346612 instead of 346615)
    The volume MIR5 needs to be repaired.
    Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
    ... and Tech Toll Pro can not help also ... SO HOW DO I INSTALL ONLY OS with no CHANGES in aplications and rest of my hard drive.
    Thank you
    vmz

    Did you try booting from your install disc, launching Disk utility, and repairing your disk from there? Or have you tried DiskWarrior?
    You need to fix the disk directory damage before you install anything on this disk. If it cannot be repaired, you need to back up all of your data, reformat your hard disk, and reinstall everything from scratch.
    DO NOT reinstall anything on a disk with directory damage; you will only make the problem worse!

  • It will not open with a fresh intall

    I just did a fresh install on a windows 8.1 64 bit operating system computer because firefox would not open. SO I DID A COMPLETE NEW FRESH INSTALL. The darn thing still will not open. I get no error message, it just plain acts like it isn't even trying to open.

    Hi Bookjunky,
    Sorry to hear that the reinstall did not start Firefox. If the Program Files were not removed, the profile that was there may still be trying to load. See if you can start Firefox with the Profile Manager, but create a new profile before launching Firefox. This will tell you if there is something corrupt in the profile. • How to download fresh app from icloud

    Hi,
    I have some question.
    I would like to download an app which I have ever downloaded it (so app store force me to download from iCloud service)
    However, previous saved data also being downloaded together with the app.
    How can I download the app without downloading its previous data?
    Thanks in advance for all comment.
    Taiga.

    You would have to do some research to find an app that is specifically desiged to sync data with iCloud and provided a companion application that would run on your laptop.  As an example, if you have a Mac, you could use the Reminders app for this, as it supports iCloud syncing and is built into the latest version of OS X.

  • How To Do Fresh Install of Lion (Not ML)? ML Bricked My Mini

    I am at the point that I need to reinstall Lion 10.7.4 onto my Mini that I attempted to install ML on. None of the recovery from Apple cures the ML panics after the several ML install attempts.
    I need to do a fresh install of Lion, but need instructions.
    Thanks.

    If your Mini came with Lion then you can use Internet recovery:

  • [Solved]Unbootable fresh intall - reboot and select proper boot device

    Hello, this is not my first Arch Linux installation, but it is my first time posting to the forums. I just completed my second attempt at installing Arch on a brand-new Toshiba Satellite C55. After the installation completes and I reboot, instead of Grub I get a blank screen with this message:
    Reboot and select proper Boot device
    or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
    I thought maybe I made a mistake, so I started over and completed a second installation, only to get the same message. I am not sure how to proceed. I tried booting from a xubuntu live usb I had lying around, and it doesn't recognize that either, although it does recognize my Arch live usb.
    Any ideas?

    UPDATE: I erased the entire disk with
    sgdisk -Z
    and reinstalled again, this time creating only a boot partition and a root partition for the rest . Installed gummiboot instead of GRUB.  This time it worked, so I know that at least I did not brick my machine.
    I don't know if erasing the disk did the trick (since this machine had previously had Windows 8 on it, and may have had something "leftover"), or if I had made a mistake during the partition or when mounting the partitions (I noticed an error in my fstab the third time around, so I started over ,again, and the fourth time it worked).
    Just thought I would post this in case any other newbies run into the same issue.

  • How to install fresh copy of os x without DVD or CD

    I want to install OS x on Macbook pro laptop, I have erase all data through dist utility and when i reinstall os x it will give me message like "You must sign in with an Apple ID that was used to purchase "OS X Maverick"

    bigschwabbel wrote:
    Is that the case, if the Mac came with an older version of OS X and has been updated (including the Recovery Partition) to Mavericks?
    Yes, so it's often the case with a used Mac unless the previous owner prepared it for sale correctly.
    If IR (Internet Recovery) is used instead no ID will be needed, but the version of OSX that will be installed is the one that the machine shipped with.

  • How to start fresh and reinstall qmaster

    I had G5 with previous version of Qmaster and shake installed.
    I naively thought I could simply re-install Qmaster version 2.1 and then be able to add this G5 to my existing cluster.
    At first I got the error message
    Unable to start services because qmasterd is not running. Please consult your user's manual for more information.
    Lot of help my user manual was with that.
    trying to manually start/restart the service did no good.
    I then tried to clean out the old install and reinstall the software.
    In another article I found it suggested I clean out the pkg files and the Qmaster framework entries in /Library/Framework then reinstall.
    well I was able to reinstall Qmaster 2.1 and get it to start in the background via the commandline
    now if I try to open up the system preferences for Qmaster it crashes
    I can change some preferences via the commandline using qmasterprefs but I am unable to join it to my existing cluster nor do I want to in the existing state.
    can anyone lend some guidance in getting humpty dumpty back together again!

    Just get the needed packages (gcc-libs,libarchive, libdownload) from some mirror.

    Install them with pacman -U pathtoyourfile
