How do I get a site's pdf

I attempted to open a site's .pdf using the format http://name.com/name.pdf, the site will not come up

Do you have Adobe Reader or similar and is the plugin activated? If you have an older version of Adobe Reader it may no work. You can try updating adobe or saving the document by right clicking the link and clicking "Save link as" to your directory of choice.

  • How can I get my site back (done with Iweb) on my new hard drive? I had to change my hard drive after droping my computer.

    Can someone help me. I had to change my hard drive few weeks ago and lost everything. I made a site via iweb and my site is still on line but I don't know how can I get my site back on my iweb with my new hard drive.

    Patrick ~ Welcome to the Support Commuities. Here's where iWeb's key Domain file (containing your site data) is usually located:
    ...But rather than backing up just that file, consider using Time Machine and/or SuperDuper.

  • How do I get IE to read pdf's with a Windows 7 OS and acrobat 7 on my system?

    How do I get IE to read pdf's with a Windows 7 OS and acrobat 7 on my system? It works with firefox. It worked previously but I think the automatic upgrade to reader 9.4 messed it up - so how do I fix it?

    Hi,
    It looks like the default association of your PDFs was set to Adobe Acrobat, when you installed Adobe Reader 9.4.0. I would request you to either uninstall Adobe Reader 9.4.0 and install it again. This time around, you will receive a window asking you to chose between Adobe Acrobat 7 and Adobe Reader 9.4.0 as the default PDF viewing application, make sure you select Adobe Reader 9.4.0 and continue on. This will associate Adobe Reader 9.4.0 as the default PDF viewing application and your internet explorer will be able to open PDFs without an issue.
    If an uninstall seems out of the question, you can change the following registries to point to the path of AcroRd32.exe (i.e. the path wherein you have installed Adobe Reader 9.4.0. By default it would be something like: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe). The quotes mentioned below are intentional and must be included.
    i.   HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe\(Default) - Change the value to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"
    ii.  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7\shell\Open\command\(Default) - Change the value to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe""%1"
    iii. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7\shell\Read\command\(Default) - Change the value to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe""%1"
    This should set the default application to view PDFs as Adobe Reader 9.4.0 and let you view PDFs in browser as well.
    Hope this works.

  • How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader instead of google?

    Firefox is unsucessfully using google to open pdf files.  How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader?
    Message was edited by: veeryTalonted

    "Google" is a search engine (website) and NOT (repeat: NOT) a PDF viewer. It can't and won't open PDFs in any real or imaginable way.
    Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
    Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
    Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free.

    How do I get Bridge to show PDF's with their dimensions in inches?
    I know how to tell Bridge to do it. But it seems the information is not embedded in the PDF's.
    Is there a way to make the PDF's be aware of their size in inches at authoring time?

    I'd like to have Bridge showing PDF dimensions in millimeters. Also dimensions for InDesign and Illustrator files in millimeters. Is this still an upcoming feature? I've been waiting for this since CS3...

    Do you own Acrobat? If so what version? If not what version of Word and PP do you have? Newer versions contain non-Adobe software for creating pdfs. If you do not own Acrobat that it would be best to check in a Microsoft forum on how to use Word to create pdfs.

  • How do you get your site to appear the same in all web browsers?

    There are some things that show up differently in Safari than they do in IE and Firefox, how do I get everything to jive the same? I think it is in the code which I am not an expert on.  My website was a template that I purchased online and most of the code was already built in.  I have some of my links in Safari showing white when you rollover them but when I look in IE and Firefox they're not there.  Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    Actually what you are learning here is to create a stylesheet for all of your web pages. Including all of your styles inline in the page's code is very cumbersome.
    Each of your pages needs code that refers to your stylesheet:
    <style type="text/css" media="all">
    @import url("../../css/content.css");
    </style>
    <style type="text/css" media="print">
    @import url("../../css/content_print.css");
    </style>
    This assumes that your stylesheets (in my case, one for print, one for browsers) are located in a folder called /css which is a habit I have for neatness.
    One thing that Dreamweaver does very well is keeps track of your styles and helps you edit styles to suit. I'm using CS3 which doesn't really allow you to look at the result of rollovers from within the application, but I keep Firefox handy for previewing. Problem is, once you create a style for a "visited" link, you can no longer see the result of the style for unvisited links in your browser unless you clear your browsers cache. Dreamweaver CS3 always shows links in their unvisited state.
    There is other code I use to make Microsoft's non-compliant browsers do the right thing, though rollovers, visited, and such all tend to work the same in all browsers, save the most antediluvian.
    <!--[if IE 5]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* IE 5 does not use the standard box model, so the column widths are overidden to render the page correctly. */
    #outerWrapper #contentWrapper #leftColumn1 {
      width: 185px;
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    <!--[if IE]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* The proprietary zoom property gives IE the hasLayout property which addresses several bugs. */
    #outerWrapper #contentWrapper, #outerWrapper #contentWrapper #content {
      zoom: 1;
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    The above code handles issues with Microsoft's intransigence pretty well, and my sites tend to look really uniform. But in the case of menus, I often have to write a completely different stylesheet to wrestle with Internet Exploder:
    This is stylesheet reference for my menus:
    <style type="text/css" media="all">
    @import url("../css/menu/menu.css");
    </style>
    <!--[if lte IE 6]>
    <style type="text/css" media="all">
    @import url("../css/menu/menu_ie.css");
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    Then I craft the changes for Internet Exploiter 6 in a separate stylesheet.
    This should give you an idea of how powerful an external stylesheet can be. You can use "if" statements to handle the differences between the Microsoft non-compliant browsers and the more modern and compliant browsers, like Safari, Firefox and Opera.
    You can see the result in any browser at http://www.readingsbykaren.com

  • How do you get your site removed from the reported attack sites list?

    Hi,
    Our site https://mail.ccgs.nsw.edu.au/owa appears to be on the 'reported attack sites' or reported web forgeries' lists and is getting blocked in Firefox. This is a mater of urgency as we use Firefox as our web browser in this organization and there is a site wide outage, none of our staff can use their webmail. How do we get removed from this list?
    When we have the site in the "Allowed Sites" list it still does not load.
    When we un-tick "Block reported attack sites" and "Block reported web forgeries" the site works. Though we do not want to untick these for our users for security purposes.
    Regards

    I am not seeing this problem currently with that URL. Firefox refreshes the site list from Google quite frequently. You can check for new files in the following folder and if they are not getting refreshed, I suppose you could try deleting them.
    C:\Users\''username''\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\''profilename''\safebrowsing
    Note that this is under the Local branch (location of cache) and not the Roaming branch (location of preferences, extensions, etc.)

  • How can I get my site to diplay a blue or green site identity button? I have an SSL.

    A website I administer, hummert.com, shows a grey identity button, even on secure https pages. How can I get the blue or green buttons to display? I have a current SSL from Godaddy.
    Also, is there still supposed to be a lock icon in lower left corner on secure sites? I don't see it, even on bank of america's page.

    No, in Firefox 4 and later you no longer have the Status bar that showed the padlock in previous Firefox versions.<br />
    The padlock only shows that there is a secure connection and doesn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server.<br />
    So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL.<br />
    The functionality of the padlock has been replaced by the [[Site Identity Button]] on the left end of the location bar.<br />

  • How do I get my site to display a flash version if they have flash or my html5 version if they don't

    I'm setting up my site in html5 for those devices that do not display flash/swf files.
    How do I make my site run the flash site if they have flash player and switch to the html site if they don't?
    Thanks!!!

    Suzy, I am a professional. I work in split view constantly. And that is actually kind of dangerous, but I know the problems.
    I am very happy with Dreamweaver CS 5.5's Live View, which is not something I had in CS3. But I'm not really sure which web browser it's emulating, so I always check everything out in a real browser (actually several). I look at Firefox, and Safari and I also look at it in Internet Exploder versions 7, 8 and 9 through the use of VirtualBox on my Mac. OS X Daily even offered a complete run-it-once installation kit on their website.
    The current HTML standard is HTML4, which was arrived at by the W3C in 1999. People tried to improve on that standard and came up with XHTML (for eXtended HTML) and that became a "standard," but I can see people leaving that style with HTML5.
    The idea behind these new standards for HTML is to go more towards a semantic web, with tags that actually describe something about the content. Essentially, what we're trying to do is get more and more in-line style information out of the web page and into a style sheet, with tags that give search engines more information about what the content is all about.
    We need people with good design-sense Suzy. Learning HTML markup and how to build stylesheets to style your pages is not simple and you need to have a little patience. I think it is very promising that you are saying that HTML5 and CSS3 are easier. When these new standards are adopted, it will be much easier to make websites and those sites will be better optimized for search engines.
    If you stick to HTML5 and CSS3, you need to include the HTML5 "shiv" in your header in your page. This will retranslate all of your hard work into something that Microsoft's browsers can understand, as Microsoft made them the "slow kid" down the street.
    Good luck!

  • How do i get a site saved in a folder back to iweb?

    for some reason (i do not know why) one of my sites disappeared from iweb. but, it is still saved on my idisk at web>sites>etc.... when i click on any of teh files, they open in safari and the URL starts with - file:///Volumes....
    so i know i didn't loose all my work, but how can i get it back into iweb so i can make it part of my original site?
    TIA!!!

    I'm sorry, but you will not be able to import any of these saved folders back INTO iWeb. iWeb just doesn't function that way. The best that you can do is EITHER to use what you can see as a reference while recreating your site (you can drag images and stuff to your desktop for use back in iWeb) OR you can put the folder back on your iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/ folder and make a NEW site in iWeb that links to this old and now static site.
    In any case, there isn't any way to further edit or publish this site from iWeb. In the future, you should keep a backup of your Domain file, which is where iWeb stores everything about your site. This is the only true way to backup your iWeb work. You can find this Domain file in your hard drive in the /Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ folder.
