How do I get all my music to sync to my phone?

I am trying to sync a playlist of 104 songs to my iPhone, so I select the playlist under Music and Sync. However, on my iPhone, only 32 songs are synced. I tried restarting my iPhone (holding home and lock button), reinstalling iTunes, and unsycning all my music then syncing the playlist again. I have a MacBook Pro Mid-April 2010 edition with the latest version of iTunes and iOS software.
I also have a problem with my iPod (just including in case the problem is related). All of my music is shown, but when I play a song, depending on which song it is, it'll either not play the song or skip to a different song. I have an iPod 4th Gen black.

How did you move the music to the external drive? What exactly is on the drive? The entire iTunes folder or only music? If it is the entire iTunes folder you can do the option+start suggestion earlier. iTunes and Apple's devices work as an ecosystem. iTunes is designed to sync with Apple's products, not anyone else's. You'll need your songs in a format compatable with the Samsung phone and to use the software transfer program supplied/recommended. It is essentially not an Apple/iTunes problem. You may have better luck finding the information you need on Samsung's forums.

Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:

When you add a song under one of the sign ons it doesn't add it to all 3 libraries. Before I updated to LION, We had one main library with all the songs we bought, imported from cd's etc. Then any of the three of us could add it to our own IPOD instead of buying the song agin. It is one house, one IMAC. It was working fine under Leopard.

The sort fields should generally be empty unless you've putting in custom values to sort solo artists by their surnames. You can apply common changes to thousands of tracks at once, just don't apply the wrong change because there is no undo.
It is a good idea to backup before undertaking large scale changes. See this backup tip for a suggested approach.

The guy at att told me that icloud would sync everything i had in my notes, calendar, and text messages to my new phone, but it only synced some of my notes, none of my messages, or calendar info.

Your music will only be where you put it. It will not magically appear on a new computer.
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
If for some reason you cannot do this, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an iphone: Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases

If it was just itunes, then your music should still be there. Just reinstall itunes.
Otherwise just use your backup copy of your comuter to put everything back.

You music is not in your iCloud account, it is in iTunes in the Cloud. Whether you use iCloud personally or not, it will not have an effect on the iTunes in the Cloud functionality. If you are using iTunes, then all of your purchases through iTunes will use iTunes in the Cloud as a backup for your purchases.
