You can't upgrade to Mavericks since the release of Yosemite. You can stay where your are or install Yosemite.

How long does it take to upgrade to Mavericks and what benefits for the 10.6.8 user? Is a straightforward download? Thank you, Kevin
What application do I select to facilitate the download?

Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...

Also note that Rosetta is no longer supported in Mavericks, Mountain Lion and Lion.

If so... would recommend at least 4GB of RAM... if not 8 GB

  • How can i get an upgrade to IOS7, from IOS10.5.8?

I am trying to install a new garmin software and it says I need to update my software.  The MAC OSX software update says no updated needed.

Before you do ANY major system updating OR upgrading, I strongly advise that you backup your current system, purchasing and installing/using either a high storage capacity Mac formatted USB 2.0 Flash Drive OR a large capacity USB 2 or FireWire 800 Mac formatted external hard drive and either use the included OS X Time Machine app to backup the data on your Mac's internal hard drive to the external storage medium.
Or you can purchase a data cloning app such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to create an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your Mac's internal hard drive to the external hard drive.
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple from a company, called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.

    Good Luck!

  • I upgraded to Mavericks from 10.6.8 and I no longer have any of my mail folders in macmail. If I look up an email via spotlight, I can find it, so it's in there. How do I restore my folders?

I upgraded to Mavericks from 10.6.8 and I no longer have any of my mail folders in macmail. If I look up an email via spotlight, I can find it, so it's in there. How do I restore my folders?

As an update: I was able to find my archived boxes and emails on my hard drive by doing this:
    Open a Finder window.
Select Go | Go to Folder… from the menu.
    Type "~/Library/Mail/V2".
Once I was able to get my macmail working properly, most of my mailboxes appeared, however not all and only a few recent emails are in a few of the boxes.
I really need to move the emails from the archive back into my macmail. When I try to import using the mbox method, it doesn't recognize the .mbox even though they are .mbox. Other than re-emailing each individually to myself, I don't know what to do. Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to some easier solution?

  • How can I get an Upgrade for PE8/Win to PE10/Mac?

I used PE8 on an Windows7 PC but changed all systems now to Mac - working mainly on an iMac. I would like to upgrade my PE8 to PE10 for Mac but I can't install the old version on my iMac. How can I get an upgrade then? Thanks for feedback

The upgrade is usually not a good deal, financially. If you look around you can almost always find the full version of PSE for less than/the same price as the upgrade version. Watch amazon and the big box stores, which often sell it as a loss leader. The boxed version of PSE 10 includes both mac and windows versions.

  • How do i get my upgrade reset

Yesterday i went to a apple store in my city to get the iphone 6 plus it was all running smoothly then we hit the bump the apple worker rang up a iphone 6 and not the plus. This would have been the phone i was upgrading to but when he realized it he went in a cancelled the process no purchase was made. When we went in to retry it the upgrade was gone. Now its saying i have to wait until 2016. We called everyone apple could think of but no one could help. I just need to know how to get my upgrade back because i am still using this piece of junk i wanted to get rid of. How can i get the upgrade back since i didnt upgrade anything it was cancelled?

I understand your concerns Bforeman1955. I'd be happy to help get this resolved for you. Getting a new iPhone should be exciting. If you went to the Apple store on the 2nd, it would take only a few days for our systems to upgrade to should the device was returned (in your case canceled). I apologize for this delay.

How can I upgrade to Mavericks from 10.6.8? I cannot find in in the Apple Store. Thanks.

As of now you can upgrade to Yosemite, but not to Mavericks, at the App Store.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

You will be ordering a Physical DVD with 10.6.3 on it, the last "Full Retail" version Apple issued on DVD.
Once updated to 10.6.6 or later, the MacApp store becomes available for any future Mac OS X purchases of 10.7 or later.

  • I upgraded to Maverick from Snow Leopard.

I upgraded to Maverick from Snow Leopard.  Since the slowness problem is that I don't have enough RAM, how do I get my MacBook Pro back to Snow Leopard?

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They also have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the minimum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

If I upgrade to Yosemite will I be forced to go to the new Photos program
No. After upgrading (and of course make a back up first) you will need to update iPhoto to v9.6.1 (you won't be able to do this prior to upgrading). Here's how:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Photos is v1 of a new app, as yes it's not as mature as iPhoto. It uses a different technology for working with external editors. That requires Adobe to write an extension to let it hook into the new app. Not done yet, neither has anyone else.
Going forward: iPhoto will run on OS 10.10., but there is no guarantee for subsequent versions of the OS. You might want to factor that into your anger term thinking.
