I keep getting a message saying to close IE when I am tryg to install Flash. The only window I have open is the installer window.

You didn't mention which version of OS X your running but there are password reset utilities provided OS X: Changing or resetting an account password (Snow Leopard and earlier) - Apple Support or OS X: Changing or resetting an account password - Apple Support
Alternately you can use an external keyboard to log in and change the password. Make a backup if you don't have one, it's likely that your problems aren't over. If that water continues to migrate downward and fries the logic board your macbook will be toast.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

How do I get around this? Any help would be nice.

As far as I know, the only way to go around security restrictions is to have you application sigend by Verisign, Thawte, JavaVerified, etc.

When I try to back up my hard drive to an external hard drive if an alias is not correct or a file is not recognised it fails and I cannot tell the sytem to ignore the file. Anyone know why and how I can get around the problem?

I have a Mac PowerBook G4 running OSX and a Hitachi external HD. When I try to back up the data from my Mac to the HD it copies much of the data across but some files such as incorrect "alias' files and some other files do not copy. The messages I get indicate there are problems but when I click the OK button the backup stops. I then have to either delete these files or copy other files with correct alias details to overwrite the existing one. I then have to start the backup all over.
I have been carrying out a bfull backup so have been copyiing the hard drive of the Mac an pasting it into the external HD. Is this my problem? If so how do i carry out the backup function. I have been informed by Hitachi that I should be using the Mac's own "Time Machine" software but I don't seem to be able to locate this.
I have been told that there should be the option to either cancel the backup or skip the file but I don't get that.
Any ideas as I am running out of patience.

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups. The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more. The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)

That sounds like it's requestion the Find My Mac passcode. If you don't know it, you'll have to take it to a nearby Apple store with proof of purchase/ownership as only they can unlock it for you.

How can I get around the -40 import error?

I'm using iMovie 3.03 and just found out that the -40 error I get when importing videos is due to a 9 minute (and 32 seconds) limit. My imports (1 mov and 1 avi) are just over 14 minutes each. Does anyone know of a work around for this problem? Or of any 3rd party software that will allow me to cut the import in half so I can bring each file into iMovie in 2 parts?

OK... I went to the site and downloaded the app. I ran it and it exported 9 mins of the file and then would not export the other half and gave me an error: NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError:4
Then I put the app on my desktop and changed the length of the file exported to 8 mins (using the instructions given with the download. When I ran it again, it said I needed Quicktime Pro to run it.
So... now what I don't want to do is buy Quicktime Pro and find out that it still won't work. Would Quicktime Pro be able to do split the videos? Or at least be able to cut half of the video off and save as another file name?

How can I get around the character limit in the "print pages" option

I have a rather large PDF file and I need to print certain pages (for example, pages 1, 324, 456, 759, 812, 946, 1206, 1562, 1792, etc.). However, when I click on print and try to type in the pages, there is a character limit, and it is much smaller than the number of characters I need to type. Is there a way around this? Thanks.

OK I figured out the answer. Ctrl+J opens up the console (You have to activate javascript). The following script will extract the pages into a new document, and then you can simply print those pages. All you need to do is fill up the "pageArray" array with a list of your pages, separated by commas. It does not support ranges.

My Primary Apple ID is not an email address. After following Apple's prompts on my iPhone after installing IOS5 I (and I regret this emmensely), created a new ID with my primary email, the same one that is the email linked to my other Apple ID. It allowed me to do this.
Since iCloud would be fairly unmanageable on my iPhone and Macs with 2 IDs, I'd like to figure out the best way to trick the system to merge all this mess into one account.
Here's my problem.
My primary Apple ID is a simple username.
The email for it is my primary email
The secondary Apple ID account I created for iCloud is that same email.
The email for it is that email.
What I want to do is change my primary Apple ID with the username to the primary email name, in order to make all my iTunes purchases synchable with iCloud.
I do know that Apple does not allow an ID to be cancelled, so I can't go this route to get rid of the current email one.

I signed to iCloud using a [email protected] email address as the username. It's the same email address as my primary ID's email.
The problem is not buying apps or music using the iCloud ID, it's managing them later.
You'll end up with a big mess of apps and music all over the place. You won't be able to sync to iCloud all the music you have on your primary ID.
I made the mistake of buying an expensive app using the iCloud ID on my phone, only to not have it be able to sync to my computer, which uses my primary Apple ID. I had to go through Apple to have them void that purchase and buy it again using my primary Apple ID.
All my issues would have been avoided if Apple had allowed me sign up for iCloud using my current Apple ID.
It's because of their requirement that the ID username needs to be an email address.

Previously, one could open a new tab and the find bar would remain at the bottom of the page from the previously opened tab. So, for example, I could search for something in a tab I open, open a new tab and the same find bar would be at the bottom so I could search the new website for the same thing. Any way around this?

Once you've finished editing your rescue email address, click the Save button directly below the email field.

How do I get around the fact that I recorded too much audio?

Okay, so I got this new Sony PMW 200 camera and finally went high def for the first time. Turns out the camera records EIGHT channels of audio! I recorded a couple of programs with it and am now trying to get the HDCAM footage into Premiere Pro 5 (I'll have 6 in a couple of days.) Here's what I did. I took the files (HDCAM 50) and pulled them off the portable hard drive I used on site and copied them to a CLIPS file on my Raid drive. I am now using the media browser to bring the clips into my project. The problem is that the audio is so huge that I think it has been the cause of my system crashing a few times. I have about 160 clips. Am I better off just taking it slow and doing a few clips at a time or do I find some conversion software (help!) that will get rid of all that audio.
I have to have a show done in a few days and am sort of freaking out. I am new to all this. I realized I was recording alor of audio, but this all came down real fast and figured I could fix it in post, not taking into account the large file sizes due to all that audio. I literally had the camera one day and was shooting with it a couple of days later.
Any help would be extremely appreciated. Oh and I have been saving the program over and over, but found at a certain point that the system just crashed soon after I turned it on. I'm running it on a dual quad core Xeon (PC) with 8 gigs of ram.

SimonHy, the PMW 200 does record @ 4:2:2 - which is 50 MB/s.
fullhead, 50 MB/s is 15 MB/s greater than 4:2:0 which is 35 MB/s. That's really the only major difference over the EX1R. 4:2:2 and above is essential for much broadcast work and (arguably) green screen. But for general work, 4:2:0 will produce extremely high quality output.
Did you copy the entire folder structure verbatim from the camera to your hard drive? It sounds as if you cherry-picked certain files and moved only those across. The EX1R names the folder as BPAV.
Before dragging files into the timeline, identify which of the PMW's audio tracks you wish to use - then target ONLY those tracks. When you insert the audio into the timeline, the unwanted audio tracks will be excluded - although, as SimonHy says, that's probably not where your problem lays.
