How Do I Get At My Disk Image In Finder?
Hello
I've used Disk Utility to create a disk image. I want to copy that .dmg file to a USB stick drive to back it up. How do I do that?
I've tried dragging the icon from Disk Utility but that didn't work. I know the file is actually stored in /Volumes/ but the Finder hides that directory.

No, Finder is the GUI and is not intended to have the functionality of terminal. People get themselves into enough trouble as it is.
When you do need to something at a fundamental level, you can't get anything more powerful than Terminal.
I would use Disk Utility some more, to become familiar with making diskimages, and note their locations as I have described in my first post, and you should get a sense of control over what you are creating and where it is.

Just in case, to keep on-hand in case I would like to reinstall Lion, I would like an image file to put on a USB drive.
I obviously didn't get a DVD with the Macbook Air, but also didn't get any instructions (nor can find them online) of where to download my disk image.That's because an image for the new MBAs isn't available to the public. A special Lion build containing MBA hardware specific drivers is required.
It is intended that the recovery partition/internet download method be used to restore/rebuild. This likely won't be sufficient in all cases--though it should suffice for most recovery situations.
As to an image from Apple--that would be speculation.

What's a Mini PCC? Are you talking a PowerPC Mac Mini?
And the latest what? Mac OS X, except for incremental updates, which this forum is about is not available for download (you can download the update from 10.4 to 10.4.7 for instance, if that's what you want, but you can't download the full 10.4.7 from scratch). Macs can run the operating system they came with or newer retail operating system up to what specs allow. Macs can also run Linux, though Mac OS X is itself very much like Linux as it has both an XWindows environment and a simple ANSI terminal with a bourne shell into its FreeBSD based command line. So the question becomes what you are going to try to run on your computer? -

It is standard Mountain Lion error due to the networking ability which is comparable to wet string. (actually that was lion.. it dried out some with Mountain Lion.. higher in the hills perhaps!!)

how do i get a recovery disk or download for os 10.5.8? my system was installed by an apple store when replacing my hard drive. i did not get a backup disk. macbook is a 1.1 from mid 2006 and 10.5.8 is as far as i can go.. use this as a utility backup when my new macbook pro with mt lion screws something up---which seems like a daily event. do i have to install a lesser version of leopard then install the update. does software update even work anymore for leopard? im so in the dark and when i look at the console i just freak.
Hello, your best bet would be to clone your drive to an external drive, which will be bootable.
Get carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD to the New one...

You're not likely to see any updates show up for 10.5.x
The very first MacBook 1,1s can actually run 10.6, which is updatable to 10.6.8, but will only run in 32 bit mode on yours.

Hi Ive moved photos but they appear as duplicates in iPhoto. When you try and open them it says Photo can't be found. I have thousands. How do I get rid of these images?
Also I have many duplicate photos (from backups) It would be great to be able to remove all duplicates at one time, like in Itunes.

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management. -

Images are not "in" Lightroom. Image files are on the hard drive, and the Lightroom edits are in the catalog.
Lr creates a link between the catalog and the image files on the hard drive.
So, there is no need to bring images from one version of Lr to the other.
When you install Lr4 it will find your existing catalog and update it (in fact it updates a copy of the catalog); Lr4 will then "know" where your images are because their location is recorded in the catalog.
It is the unfortunate choice of the word "import" that creates the impression that images are in Lr like eggs in a basket. Nope! -
How do I get rid of "disk password" user?
I recently reformatted my mid 2012 MBP with Yosemite 10.10.1 . I have FileVault enabled and under "Users / groups" > "display login window as" I checked "name and password". After checking that option I still have "Disk Password" display as a user to login with in addition to my regular user name. If click on "disk password user" I am able to get to a screen that will ask for my username and password. When I enter that information it will log me into my regular user name. How do I get rid of "disk password" user?
The safest thing would be to deactivate FileVault and then reactivate it.

How can I get a boot-disk for a Compaq P2500 laptop Windows XP Home Edition?
I'm already in another forum with a eerily similar question, but that's for the HP Media Center Pavilion m8000e desktop system (Windows Vista Home Premium) I was just given; I've ordered a new hard drive for that. I assume the directions to create a boot disk with the *.iso file (using Imgburn) is going to work; I have the 25-digit code for that.
This question here now is for my wife's older Compaq P2500 2596US laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. This too needs a new hard drive, but I also am missing the boot disc for this; I do have the 25-digit product code.
How can I get a boot disk for this laptop? I tried the Ubuntu method outlined in a few posts; geez, what a headache ... never could get it managed. Does HP not make any boot disks available? Microsoft told me to check with HP.
I can furnish the product code; model #; serial# ... gee, maybe the oroginal receipt is even laying around somewhere ...
I need a boot disk to get the new hard drive up on board (if I end up ordering that).

Lost disk image in Finder (Desktop) for backup disk on Intel Mac Pro OS 10.7.3. Time Machine cannot find the internal backup disk. The volume is grayed out in Disk Utility, though it CAN verify the volume. How do I get it back on my desktop?
First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
Try again to back up. -

How Do I Get Rid Of Disk Partitions/Images?
Hey folks,
When I bought my iMac flat panel from a friend, he partitioned the hard drive into 3 'disks' or disk images. The problem I'm having, is that I would like to get rid of one of them and use that storage for the main disk; the disk with the startup info. on it.
How in the heck do I do this? I've located about 134, 765 articles on how to CREATE partitions, but none on how how to get rid of them, or combine them into others.
Help?

If you use only Apple's software then the only way is to Erase the drive with Disk Utility and set one partition only.
Clearly this will erase all data on the drive.
There are some 3rd party utilities that allow partitions to be removed/created without erasing the drive.
Given the nature of what you are doing here; I'd recommend fully backing up all your data before doing anything of this nature.
