  • Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini?

Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini? The network uses a Time Capsule. Everything works when connecting from the Mini to the Air, but the reverse is not the case, none of the Mini's drives are visible, and the screen sharing option is not available. I've tried the measures already suggested in online articles, everything seems to be configured correctly using my iCloud account. I'm at a loss, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've now managed to get the service running in both directions, but not in the way I had anticipated. I had to create a second account on the Mac Book Air, this also has administrator privilages, everything works fine when connecting from this acccount. However, this is not the way I would expect to work, none of my documents, applications and settings would be available, unless I laboriously duplicated them to the new account.
Also, I've yet to get the service running from outside my home network.

  • I run windows on my mac for school. went into windows and cant get back to mac. how would i get back to the mac i love

i run windows on my mac for school. went into windows and now cant get back to the mac i love please help

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Can't get back to my mac to work when on the road. Have you?

Read all the Back to my mac and how easy it is to set up and use. NOT!
It only works when you have the laptop and the G5 right next to each other. Which is of no use!
It does NOT share at all and the apple supt and store were no help. I' m able to print just fine anywhere in the house or even outside on my network. It will not share when I connect my laptop to another network. The G5 is on. I only have NAT enable on the 2wire.
I have the 2Wire with the wireless enable and disabled it doesn't work either way. The only reason I got the airport and assoc card was to be able to use back to my mac when I am only the road.
ANYONE ELSE ABLE TO GET IT O WORK.
That problem one two is about networking with a windows computer that my brother has doesn't work either!

  • Can't get back to my mac to work

I am guessing that this problem belongs somewhere in the server section.
I am very crossed about this, as I have been calling apple support twice, they told me to chip on all the remote functions in sharing, and since remote management chips off screen sharing, I wondered but did what they told me to do. I am now working on my laptop on an open network, but don't see my home computer that has been set ready for back to my mac.
I am crossed as support did not even know what back to my mac is or was, and if they then after some holding on tell me to do the remote stuff, it still does not work. My router and computer have firewall off, nothing is really blocking incoming traffic to my home computer.
Steve jobs and the apple home page make it look like kids play, why is it so hard for me then?
The only real manual for this is the silly kiddly like movie on the back to mac feature, nowhere but nowhere do I find an actual guide to find settings, net werk settings, what to chip on or off...
I have played with the UPnP of my router, the only thing I have not done so far is the port mapping thing.
I was able to screen share with my son in Belgium from England, that part works, so I think that I am not so stupid as I do feel now....
Why is taking me so much trouble and aggrevation to get it to work. Both laptop and home computer have leopard, have sharing on, have firewall off, I am so annoyed right now....

    Hi, Catherine,
This forum is for Apple Remote Desktop, Apple's utility for managing networked Macs, so it really wouldn't seem to be the most appropriate place for your question.
I'm a bit puzzled, though, as to what it is you're trying to do. What "back to my Mac" are you referring to? If you're referring to the "Back to My Mac" that's a feature of Apple's .Mac service, that's a function only available if you're running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, but your profile says that you're running Mac OS X 10.4. If you are indeed running 10.5 and that is the function you're talking about, the best place to ask for help will be the Back to My Mac forum.
If that's not what you're referring to, please explain further what it is you're trying to do and perhaps we can direct you to the forum where you'll be most likely to get help.
    Regards.

  • Trouble getting "back to my mac" to work on new Air - and really need this functionality

This is sort of one of those "asked and answered" threads, but I wanted to share my solution. I love being able to see my other computers remotely. I don't think Apple sells the functionality of remote desktop enough. I have a laptop and I also run to mini servers, one at work, and one at home. When I first got "back to my mac" working with my Apple ID on all three computers I thought I had died and went to heaven. With fast internet access this is really incredible - able to move files back and forth and see different things - even run things like media encoding on another computer so my laptop is not slowed down.
But when I bought a new Air a couple of weeks ago I ran into a problem. I had done everything right. Each computer allows login with my Apple ID and all the sharing was turned on properly - remember, I was doing this with my previous Macbook Pro just fine.
But everytime I would click on the remote computer in finder, finder would just quit and restart. Weird. Crash and then restart of finder.
So I've been fighting with it.
Then I discovered I could click on "All" in the sidebar (to see all networked computers and servers). Then if I right-clicked on the server that showed up in the list in the main window of "All" I could choose a "connect as" and get it to work. Now it works regardless even if I double-click right on the icon of the remote server in the sidebar.
If you followed all of that, it could help you. If you're not using this "remote desktop feature, you should.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Can't get Back to my Mac to work on MBA

I am trying to transfer files selectively from my MBP to my MBA. I tried to use migration assistant but it doesn't let you pick and choose the files only the broad categories. I thought I would try to use Back to my Mac and just access my MBP from my MBA.
I have BTMM turned on and all of the file sharing set. On each Mac I see the other in the "sharing" menu on the left side of finder. However, I cannot seem to log into my MBP from the MBA. I have no problem at all logging into my MBA from my MBP. Any suggestions for what I might be doing wrong?

  • How do I get back into my Mac Pro?

My passwords to my Mac appear to have been changed and I can't log into it. Here's my suspicion: last week, I lost my iTouch, and -- if it's possible -- the finder has gotten into my Mac through my firewall; the person left a Master password hint "EX found this," which I don't recognize, and also seems a hint. I've tried lots of combinations of Apple, itouch, ipod, etc.,without luck.
Can this be done? And what do I do now?

Unless you had your Mac passwords stored in clear text on your iPod touch and also had one of the VNC applications so that someone could have taken control of your Mac, it's highly unlikely someone could have used your iPod to hack into your system. But I'll never say anything is impossible.
Anyway, boot your Mac from the Mac OS X installer disk and from the Utilities menu choose "Reset Password" and follow the instructions.
Once you can get into your Mac, I would strongly suggest you immediately back up all of your documents, music, etc., then erase the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X, your application and data. If someone has managed to hack into your Mac, there's no way of telling what sort of keylogger or other exploit they might have installed that might be able to capture other passwords and such and send them to the hacker.

  • How can l get back on my mac iphoto application ?

l've been cleaning my computer and erase everything , redownload everything online with update , and after this with surprise , iphoto application is gone, anyone knows please how to get it back?
    Thank you in Advance.
    Laurent.

    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

  • I can no longer access my Lotus Notes office email (webmail). I can get my calendar, but not my mailbox. Both are on a secure https site. Maybe the problem is due to accepting a new version of Firefox? if so, how can I get back to a version that works.

I can use Explorer to get to to the webmail, but Firefox no longer works.

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

  • Just installed windows 7 on my macbook (os x snow leopard) using bootcamp.  I can't get back to my mac now.  I've tried logging off of windows and shutting it down.  when i restart it comes back on in windows.  How do I get back to my os x?

Just installed windows 7 on my macbook (Mac OS X Snow Leopard) using bootcamp.  Windows 7 works great, but I can't get back to my Snow Leopard.  When I log off or shut down Windows and try to start up again, all I get is Windows.  How do I get back to my mac operating system?

If your Mac is off then start up. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Mac and Windows Disks show up. Then click on the Mac disk and the arrow below it. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.
If you are in Windows then look for the Boot Camp icon on the taskbar. It will look like a gray box sitting on one corner. One of the options when you click it is to restart in Mac OS. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.

  • Version 4 will not open with Mac G4 System10.5.8 Replace ver3 now no Firefox at all . How do I get back to Ver 3 or get Ver 4 to open

I down loaded Firefox 4 to my Mac Laptop G4 running operating system 10.5.8, 1.67ghz, 2gig ram. When install it in the applicatiion folder I replaced the version 3.6x that I was using. When I try to open Ver 4 I get an error message that iy cant open because it is not supported on this architecture. How do I get it to open or how do I get back to version 3.6x So i dont loose all my bookmark. For some reason Firefox on my backup disk says it has an error code and can not load

Sorry, but as you discovered, Firefox 4+ no longer support the PowerPC CPUs.
I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong with the reinstall. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 from here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
Does that work (i.e., pick up your profile automatically)?
There's also an unofficial build using Firefox 5 code adapted to the PPC platform. You can read about that here: http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

  • Running Mac 10.4.11, now I updated to Firefox 4 and it will no longer open, stating that it will not run on my mac. How do I get back to what I had?

My firefox was running fine until I was prompted to upgrade to Firefox 4. I did so and now when I try to open, I get a message window saying I cannot run firefox on the mac I'm now running (10.4.11). How to I get back to the version of firefox I was running?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

I partitioned a small drive for a windows program, and now the computer only wants to boot to Windows.  How do I get back to Mac so I can have a choice of drives?

That doesn't sound good. It sounds like the power outage might have corrupted the partition for OS X. I would suggest booting from the Install DVD that came with your Mac while holding down the C key. Once you have selected the language start up Disk Utility from the pull down menu and repair the disk. Once you have done that then repair permissions also.
