How do I get default/automatic reminders or alarms for every new event?

I want to set a preference so that all the new calendar events have an alarm or reminder that I have to clear after I get the reminder. At least a daily reminder list or even repeating alarms starting 2 hours before the event.
Is there a way to do this in the IpHONE calendar preferences or settings; do I have to change it in iCal then sync and that preference will transfer? I've been through every setting menu on the iPhone&Calendar as well as peeking into the settings in iCal.,
Does anyone know how to do this?

I would like to second this as a common frustration. Migrating from other phones with calendar features I was surprised to miss my first appointment. I would expect to look under settings > mail, contacts,calendars, calendar and see a setting for default appointment reminder so that every time I create an appointment in a hurry I don't have to remember to set a reminder safe in the knowledge it set it to 15 mins on my behalf.

I use the Weather Channel app, but shortly after I posted this problem, the weather did start showing up. The notification center says at the bottom that the weather is provided by yahoo. I did make sure the location services and such were on though as Diavonex recommended above.

off the grid momentarily, will work in cases of brown-out (under-power) & surge (spike)

a certain degree, depending on model and should there be a valid reason to do so.
An old-school surge protector, even if it has a few fancy LEDs, is no protection. And
for less than a replacement logic board or an hour of authorized Apple repair, the UPS
is a fairly good investment. Backup battery is user-replaceable in the better made units.
Most of them offer extra ports that do not use the battery-backup power feature. If you
need to have more items run when the power switches up/down or out, you'd need to
consider a larger capacity backup power unit. In some instances, the makers of these
(for a time, perhaps even now) did caution users to not install more than one UPS per
room when the same leg may have inadequate grounding, since these can dump the
excess surge power from several different UPS units and overload the ground.
That said, the gamble is yours. I've found to have and use these is some protection
and when away from the computer. Most settings for controlling them appear in OS X.
No additional software is required. Other settings may be on the UPS front panel.

   My new iPhone 4 is on the way from Verizon, and I too am moving on from the LG Versa (a poor man's iPhone) so I've researched this. I trust you have been using the backup assistant on the LG phone to backup your contacts? If so, and you investigate the app store you will see an app for doing the same task on you new iPhone. Initially it will take you LG contacts you have backed up at Verizon to their new home on the iPhone.
According to user comments there appear to be a couple of issues with the app you need to be aware of:
   1. It will not automatically backup your iPhone, you will need to initiate updates in the future on your own. and
   2. You will see in the comments, that there have been some issues with length of backup when you add lots of contact photos to your list.
   This coupled with the address book sync from your computer should make your list whole, in fact the move to the iPhone will allow me to consolidate my address book with my cell phone contacts. Then once I remove the duplicates all will be right with the world.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

If you are getting an 'invalid security code' message then is the address on your iTunes account exactly the same (format and spacing etc) as on your credit card bill : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646 ? If it is then you could try what it says at the bottom of that page :
