How can i get files from an sd card? removable drive does not pop up on desktop

i tried connecting the sd card to get files and all that pops up is iphoto, but theres no pictures or anything thats on it.

First, run Disk Utility to check that the SD card is being recognized and mounting. In the list of devices on the left column, you should see first the internal HDD and the boot volume, then the CD/DVD device, then the SD device and volume.
To have the SD volume show up on the desktop, make sure that the Finder's General Preferences have the External Disks option checked.

The quick fix is to click on the folder containing the missing files and choose "update Folder Location" then find the folder on the USB drive. The longer term and fix you should apply is to set Windows to always give the USB the same drive letter. You can do this through the XP Disk Management application in Computer Management (Control Panel applet). The following screenshot is for XP, but Vista and Win 7 will something similar which can be accessed via Administrative Tools (see second screenshot).

How do I recover files backed up to an external USB drive during a system recovery operation?

After restoring my system, I began rebuilding the file system. I am on a Vista (Home) based Presario laptop (CQ60-211DX) When I attempted to recover the files, I backed up to an external USB drive, I ran into a problem.
I have been unable to find a way to restore the backup using either the BIOs based utilities of the Windows Backup and Restore programs. The backup exists on the drive, I already confirmed it's presence on the drive.
Does anyone have an idea how to go about this? THe article listed on the HP support forum does not work.

How do I stop iMessages from showing up on both of my iPhones without having to have two seperate iTunes accounts and still be able to use iMessage between these same two iPhones.

My wife and I have iPhones. We share an iTunes account and we want to keep it that way. My iMessages began showing up on her iPhone and vise versa. I figured out to go to settings, messages and have only the send/receive checked for our individual phone numbers. When we do that however, we no longer can send iMessages to each other and it goes over SMS. I don't want that. I want to be able to send and receive iMessages with my wife without having to have a seperate iTunes account and without each other seeing each others iMessages to other iMessage users. How do I do this?

Did you try recovery mode? If you try this, temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software as well when you do go through the process.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

I have an Oracle Express Edition 10g running on Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 server.
I have an Oracle database file which is 2.1 GB in size. I am not able to open this file using the application or the Oracle sql developer. The error message that I get is:
ORA-01110: data file 5: '/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/service_3_0.dbf'
ORA-27041: unable to open file
Linux Error: 13: Permission denied
I think this has to do with the fact that since it is not a 64-bit Linux but a 32-bit Linux, it does not support files larger than 2GB. What do you think I should do to tackle this problem?

ThayalanThat's interesting! I had no problems with opening files 32767MB in size on the very same 32 bit RH EL 4.0. How did you conclude that your file is too large, based on the error message which reads "Linux Error: 13: Permission denied"? Have you tried reading the manual page for the "open" system call and see when does it return EACCESS (error 13), found in /usr/include/asm-i386/errno.h. My man page for open says the following:
ERRORS
EACCES The requested access to the file is not allowed, or search per-
mission is denied for one of the directories in the path prefix
of pathname, or the file did not exist yet and write access to
the parent directory is not allowed. (See also path_resolution(7).)
What lead you to the conclusion that your file is too big? Do you have an access to a system administrator who knows how to use "strace"? If your system admin doesn't know how to use "strace", he too deserves waterboarding.

My key tip is to EXPECT corruption. Keep every save separately so you can go back before damage (which might not be visible). Don't just keep a single old file or rely on daily backups.

Getting files bigger than 4GB onto external drive for itunes

   Im woundering if anyone can help me ?
    I have recently purchased a 2012 mini mac and wanted to transfer my itunes from my pc to the new mac.
   After several attempts at doing this i found it easier to start afresh due to my external hdd that i was using on the pc not being large enough.
    I have now reached one small problem ,after puchasing a 2Tb hdd then being told to re-formatt it to fat32 i cannot download any hd movies
as they are larger than 4GB.
   I am now lead to believe it needs to be formatted to Mac OS Extended(journaled).
   So i have now copied my itunes complete folder to the mac temporary so i can wipe the hdd
   Only problem now is when i try to re-formatt the hdd it gives me an error message saying it carnt do this .
   Can anyone please help me or do i noe hae to buy a new hdd
its a seagate expansion if that helps.

If this drive is only ever going to be used with a Mac,
you should actually repartition the drive to be a GUID
partition table with Mac OSX extended journaled format.
It probably will not let you format OSX because because its
partitioning table is MBR (Master Boot Record) which is
used with PCs.
If you want to use with both Macs and PCs, recreate the
partition table as MBR with the file format as ExFAT instead
of FAT32.
