How do I get Firefox Sync to work?

I have followed the Firefox Sync instructions a number of times. I want to copy the data from my old laptop onto my new. The new laptop just sits there and does nothing when I enter the generated code into my old laptop. When looking around for help, I found this:

There is no "Manage Account" button on the "Sync" tab of the Options dialog (Firefox 25.0.1 on both machines - updating now).

I am on Mac OS X 10.6.4, Snow Leopard on a Mini Mac a year old.
I got a message from X Marks telling me they were shutting down.
As I use my bookmarks every day and have thousands of them all sorted into folders I definitely never want to lose them or lose access to them if my house burns down or my computer is stolen!
I was using Firefox 3.6 and followed X Marks advise and downloaded Firefox Sync...but...won't work....kept giving me the 'Error While Syncing' message after trying to sync for a while. I looked at the blog and tried a few things like resetting password, restarting computer, checking my setting etc., but no deal. So, as the Firefox Sync download page told me that if I was using Firefox 4 beta the feature was built in and I didn't need the download, I then downloaded Firefox 4....which has removed my X Marks option, which was at least viable till after Xmas! and I still have the 'Error While Syncing' message beside the Sync button on my status bar....so now I am completely at a loss. The only thing I can do if I can't fix it up is go back to 3.6 and go on using X Marks while it is still available and pray that you get this sorted out before they dissappear.
I also like to be able to get my updated bookmarks on the other browsers I use, like Chrome and IE, so I would really appreciate it if you would include this cross browser sync capability as soon as you can. I have pledged X Marks that I would even pay for their service to continue as it seems they are so ahead of anyone else in their service and it is a large pain in the you know where that they can't keep going.

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it. Unfortunately, the error message still sits on my statusbar, right after the Firefox Sync image.

Site blocks usage of Firefox 4 and Firefox 5. Is there a way to get Firefox 5 to tell the site I'm using Firefox 3.6? Can I use a portable version of Firefox 3.6 without scrambling Firefox 5 (I don't like this option because there isn't an official portable version, but it's probably better than IE.)?
BTW, this is a fundamental customer (as opposed to enterprise) support issue being created by the new release schedule. It doesn't matter how good Firefox is if I can't use it.

I doubt is this is an issue with the Fast Release schedule, more like an issue with a website that is incorrectly screening the user agent of the browsers being used, or with a website that hasn't been updated for a browser that was released over three months ago.

How do I get bookmark syncing to work?

So I have 3 Mac's here all running Lion. I deleted all bookmarks from one Mac and turned on and off the Bookmark Sync button inside system pref, then hit "Merge". It found something from somewhere and stuffed it in there. I've done the Merge part on the other Macs but I can't seem to affect what's in there.
So how do you manage this? And why does it keep putting "untilted folder" in the bottom - I've deleted about 3 each session...
Really I've got one Mac that I want to be the master for now - but isn't the point of this so you can quickly add a bookmark and it will show up everywhere.
I'm not even trying to deal with iOS yet. (bookmarks there are kindof secondary - since I'm only using an iPod Touch.)

oh well... this isn't the total answer. I had to go into the Library/Safari and throw out my Bookmarks.plist. Now they work - and I can really start cleaning them up!
The trick is for that step where you deselect then select BookMarks in the preferences... You need to have Safari turned OFF. Then switch, wait, switch back and get out of preferences. Boot maybe helped, but it didn't start working on my final machine until I deleted that bookmark file.

I now have quite a bit of iCloud working. This was almost as bad as the Calendars. Once they work they seem to stay working!

Constant Contact freezes up every time I use Mozilla/Firefox to access the website and, particularly, when I access my contact file. I know I can't be alone in needing that marketing tool and can't imagine why it doesn't work with our favorite, Mozilla. I have tried changing the volume both by using the volume buttons on the side and through settings. I have updated all the apps. Closed and reopened a million times hoping it was just a one time deal but I have had continuous problems since the update on my ipad.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? This is essentially paulbruster's answer, but I've added the steps some might assume, but which aren't so obvious to those of us who are new at this, like me.
This solution might ''appear'' to be long and complicated, but after you follow the directions once, you'll find it's quick, clean, and simple. Almost like they designed it this way.
# If you haven't already, open a bunch of tabs on a few different subjects.
# Click the List All Tabs button on the right side of the tab strip.
# Select Tab Groups.
# Create a few groups as described [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-are-tab-groups#w_how-do-i-create-a-tab-group here] , i.e. just drag them out of the main thumbnail group into the new groups they create.

I needed to upgrade to Firefox 4.0+ for an add-on that I really needed. However, I can't use Firefox 5.0, as I randomly checked 3 add-on's I had: "Firefox PDF", "Delicious Bookmarks" and "After the Deadline", and none of them worked with Firefox 5.0. In fact, I will have to download alpha versions, etc., to get these add-ons to work with Firefox 4.0.

Firefox sync not working on fresh Ubuntu install

Fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit with a fresh install of Firefox 25. Firefox Sync setup worked flawlessly, except for the fact that it isn't working. I'm not encountering any errors, and when I tell it to sync the process appears to complete fine. However I never get my sync'ed data. Sync has been working flawlessly on my two other Windows boxes and my three Android devices and they seem to test fine. Oddly enough (and I'm not looking for support on it here, just mentioning) I'm having the same issue with a fresh install of Chrome as well. Any suggestions?

Can you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

How do I get Front Row to work with Lion? I have an iMac 27 inch computer and is the sole entertainment provider for my bedroom. I refuse to put a TV in my room and wanted to know how to get Front Row to work again on my mac? It seems that the upgrade to Lion erased the app.
I have quite a few movies and series that I bought off iTunes and is a shame that I can't use a media center app like Front Row on Lion.

I kind of have the opposite problem. I need to know how to turn off my remote on the computer. I am using the remote for my Apple TV and it keeps making the volume on my Computer go up and down (with annoying sounds).
There used to be a way to un-sync the remote with the comp but I cannot remember how and the Apple help is not much help! I have Lion.
