How do I get Firefox to open new tabs with my homepage instead of the top sites?

When I open a new tab, I get the top sites page. I want this to open to my home page.
I already changed my home page in the tool and when I go to it now, it still says what I want my home page to be, but new tabs still open wrong

By default in Firefox a new tab opens a blank page. You have something installed which changed that action, and that "something" sounds like it may not be working correctly.

"Google" is a search engine (website) and NOT (repeat: NOT) a PDF viewer. It can't and won't open PDFs in any real or imaginable way.
Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free.

How can I get firefox to open new tabs? It won't open new tabs if I click the plus button or press Control + T. I installed some add on that didn't help either.

Disable or un-install the Ask Toolbar. The Ask Toolbar seems to be incompatible with Firefox 3.6.13. Ask needs to fix the problem.

How do I get Firefox to open when I dial up to connect to the internet, instead of internet explorer for the internet service provider?

I have a dial up connection for the internet through Netzero.com, and when I click on it to dial up to the internet, it brings up the Netzero home page on Internet Explorer. I've changed my default home page from Internet Explorer, to Firefox, but when the internet is connected, Internet Explorer is the one that brings up the Netzero home page, not Firefox, so I have to click on the icon for Firefox, and then it opens, with Netzero home page on it, so I have to go through 2 different processes to get to use Firefox. I downloaded Firefox because it's suppose to be faster that Internet Explorer, especially since Internet Explorer keeps not responding when I'm in the middle of doing something. So I thought I'd try Firefox, but it doesn't seem to be faster than Internet Explorer, since the ISP that I have has a web accelerator, but it doesn't work on Firefox for some reason, I can see on a meter on my desktop when it's accelerating, and Firefox doesn't accelerate ever, if I change over to Internet Explorer, I can see the meter accelerating the web page. Hope you can help me with this problem, as I like Firefox. Thank you very much.

Try changing firefox to the default browser: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_Your_Default_Browser]. That will probably get firefox to open when you dial up.

How can I get Firefox to fill my screen? There are gaps in the top and bottom of my screen, thanks.

I dropped my laptop recently and messed up the hard drive so after installing new hard drive I reloaded win 7 and Mozilla Firefox. When Firefox loads up there is a 1" plus gap on the top and a half inch gap at the bottom of all pages. How can I get the browser to fill the screen? Thanks.

Click the orange Firefox button, and click "Options". This will bring up a new window with a "Tabs" tab at the top. Click that. There will be several checked boxes, including one called "Open new windows in a new tab instead" up at the top of the list. Uncheck that box and you should be good to go.
ETA: This should also work if you click "Tools" and "Options" within your version.

I cannot find a setting or addin to do this anywhere. I have resizer which lets me change the size, but it is annoying that I can't have a default size for windows being opened. I open windows in new windows, not tabs.

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
