How do I get firefox to UN-remember passwords I asked it NOT to remember?

I have only a couple sites that I do not want my password remembered. Usually, I would just ignore the question box asking me if I want the password remembered/saved - but I finally clicked on the drop-down option and clicked on "do not remember this password, ever". From THAT MOMENT ON, it saved my login details for those sites. I cleared all my cookies on Firefox, & it's still there. Those sites ARE, however, noted as being on my 'exceptions' list for sites that Firefox will not remember; when I search the list of sites that have saved passwords, those few sites are not on that list - as they shouldn't be. So what gives? What's the point of a do not remember option if it's just another save button in disguise? Can someone tell me what I'm missing, or can do to unsave those details I want to keep private?

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

  • I get the firefox pop up "do you want to remember this password", but it does not save it. There is no "yes" option on the pop up. How can I get Firefox to save my passwords?

I want Firefox to save my passwords as it has in the past, but now it is not doing so. I am using version 6.0.2, I see the pop up asking to remember the password, but firefox does not save the passwords. What can I do to correct this so FF starts saving my passwords?

Firefox 4 and later versions place a key icon on the location bar that allows to (re)open the dialog to save the password at any time.<br />
That pop-up dialog has a button labeled with "Remember Password".<br />
If you click the arrow next to that button then you see the other choices ("Never Remember Password for this site", "Not Now").<br />

  • With some (not all) sites that require passwords, how do I get Firefox to resume saving passwords when the site is not in the exception list?

For some banking sites that require passwords, I am 99.3% sure I at some time said "never remember passwords." Now I want to change my mind. When I go to Options/Options/Security/Remember.../Exceptions, the sites are not listed, but I still am not asked the question 'Want to remember....'

Thanks for your help and your quick reply, cor-el!
I did install the view passwords bookmarklet; it worked properly. I installed the saved-password-editor, and I think I entered all fields correctly, although (1) I was not sure of the meaning of the field 'submit prefix' and used the 'guess from current page' button, and (2) I winged it using the default on both the username field name and the password field name because the guess button simply said 'fill this form based on a likely login form on the current page.' [Does the button pick up that name?]
After fumbling a while, everything got to working! So, THANKS! Although I'm still not sure what the 'view passwords' bookmarklet does for me, since I do know the needed passwords.
I'm going to leave this open for one more day, since as a first-time user I don't know whether messages are added (such as explanations to my above minor issues) after I acknowledge the problem solved. I'll do that tomorrow.

  • How does one get Firefox to install 1 Password extension?

When I download the installer, a pop-up says it cannot install because "Firefox cannot modify the needed file". What is the needed file and how can I change the file so that it will install on Firefox?

This will happen if you install an Add-on that needs to be unpacked in order to function properly.
Normally Firefox installs the XPI file and modifies its name, but if an extension needs to modify a file in its file structure or otherwise only works when unpacked (e.g. a dictionary) then you can get this error if the add-on doesn't get unpacked.
    Extensions that need to be unpacked should have an unpack instruction in its install.rdf file: &lt;em:unpack&gt;true&lt;/em:unpack&gt;
You can temporarily toggle the extensions.alwaysUnpack pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to see if that helps to install the extension.

  • How can I get Firefox to go directly to home page and not to how to syn page as I do not want to syn anything

whenever I now go to mozilla firefox, it opens the whats new, or how to syn ? I don't have anything to sync, just want to go to the Home page I selected

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type '''''about:config'''''.
If a warning screen comes up, press the '''''Be Careful''''' button.
This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run.
At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter '''''browser.newtab.url'''''
    and press enter. '''''browser.newtab.url'''''
tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened.
If you want, right click and select '''''Modify'''''. You can change the
setting to;<BR><BR>about:home (Firefox default home page),<BR>
about:newtab (shows the sites most visited),<BR>
    about:blank (a blank page),<BR>
or you can enter any web page you want.<BR><BR>
The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as
    '''''browser.startup.homepage'''''.

  • How can I get Firefox to remember a password?

I was trying to log in to a website but had forgotten my password so I was routed to the security questions. Each time I entered a security question answer, the little Firefox box popped up asking me if I wanted Firefox to remember this "password". Each time I clicked on "Not now" and continued. When I had finally been sent a temporary password, logged into the site and changed the password, I logged out and logged in again. Of course, this time the little box did not pop up offering to remember the password! How do I get Firefox to remember my password?

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save names and passwords and other form data.

  • How do I get Firefox to bypass our proxy for our Intranet sites.

I have it set to bypass proxy settings through the GPO Add-on but I receive a DNS error. I've tried entering 192.168.0.0/16 for "No Proxy" but that doesn't work. I also have our Intranet site set as the homepage but it just goes to a blank page with no error.
I am using the Firefox ADM along with the GPO add-on for the client. This allows me to lock the settings.
I now have to add that Firefox was updated to 10.0 and I no longer see the GPO Add-on.
Earlier I tried the FrontMotion Firefox ADM and and GPO script. This worked fine. I could get to our Intranet but I couldn't lock the settings.
How can I get Firefox to see our Intranet? I'll appreciate any help you can give.

If you click "Not Now" then Firefox will ask on a next visit to that site.<br />
If you click "Never ..." then you create a block exception that you have to remove if you want Firefox ask again to store the name and password.
Remove the site from the exceptions: Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: Exceptions

  • I've down loaded adobe flash player but when I try to veiw video on firefox I'm still told that I need adobe flash player. How do I get firefox to see the flash player download?

I was trying to view a video I uploaded to facebook using firefox. The system told me to down load adobe flash player. I did but still get the message that I need to down load flash player. How do I get firefox to see the down loaded adobe flash player?

by installing from within Firefox, Internet Explorer has its own version (Active-X).
Make sure you are starting in the correct place for Flash
    * http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
If you want to read PDF files in you browser, you might also want
    * http://get.adobe.com/reader/
    After the download,
#bring up the download manager ("Ctrl+J") and start your installs. As soon as the install comes up,
#close Firefox with '''File > Exit''' or "Firefox" button > Exit. Give Firefox some time to close.
#If install does not proceed, '''terminate "firefox.exe"''' and '''"plugin-container.exe"''' from the "Processes" tab in the Windows Task Manager.
#* Windows 7 shortcut to the WTM is "Ctrl+Shift+Esc"
#* or on any Windows system from "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" then choose Windows Task Manager.
#*Make sure that "firefox.exe" is no longer running -- if it is still running then terminate it by selecting the use "End Process" button or from context menu, and do the same for "plugin-container.exe" if it is found there.
    #proceed with the install.
'''Warning''': this is the Adobe site and they have chosen to to provide crapware along with their own product. Only install the product you were planning to install. Do not install additional products: including -- "Free! McAfee Security Scan Plus" or "Google Chrome". Installing Google Chrome on your own and installing it because it is offered on the Adobe site are two different things.
Find updates for your installed plugins at http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/ mozilla.com/plugincheck
-- best to use Adobe's site to really see if their plug-ins are up to date.
Please fix your caps lock or read what you type, do you think anybody could read my answer if I typed in all caps.
If the above fails to correct the problem, I would try uninstalling Adobe Flash from your system entirely first, from the control panel then "Programs and Features".

  • When a tab is close, firefox next shows the tab to the right. How do I get firefox to show the tab to the LEFT of the closed tab?

I have 3 tabs open named 1, 2 and 3. If I close tab 2, Firefox will automatically show tab 3. How do I get Firefox to show tab 1 instead of tab 3? Basically, move to the left instead of the right?
