How do I get half of my hard drive back because half of it is missing and I can't use it?

I still have my iMac from Early 2008 and currently when I checked my hard drive space because I'm downloading a large game to see if I still have space for it. I saw that I have about 159.14GB left of Hard Drive Space and I know that I have a 320GB HD installed in my computer. How do I get the missing half of my hard drive space back?

Or run OmniDisk as root. But don't delete anything while in root. Just look.
Open Terminal and copy/paste and hit return. Give your admin pword when requested, which won't appear as you type it in. Hit return again.
sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper

depending on which model of G5 and OS installed will depend on whether a key command will work
alt at start up may work, if it does not, use the start up disc setting in;
apple menu > system preferences > system > start up disc
of course, the second drive must have a compatible OS installed for it to be able to boot.

Unfortunately, that drive is long gone, probably back to the mfr. Drives are not returned when they are exchanged. You can go by and ask them, but the chances are slim to none.

look in settings:sounds and be sure you have a ring tone set, and both vibrate buttons are off. Also be sure the volume slider id as far right as is comfortable.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

To restore the MacBook Pro to factory settings:
1. Make a backup of your files because everything will be erased.
2. Insert the Snow Leopard disc and press the C key while your Mac is starting to start from the DVD.
3. Go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
4. Close Disk Utility and install Mac OS X

How do I get music from External Hard Drive to iTunes?

Hi, I recently got an external hard drive to free up some memory on my powerbook. I put all of my music on there and deleted it from my computer, following the article about "Moving your iTunes folder". It copied most of the songs and worked temporarily, but then I had to erase my hard drive, because I was having some issues with a few programs. So now I have my "iTunes Music" folder on my external hard drive, and when I choose that as the source of music for the library and try to consolidate, nothing happens.
So, how can I use the folder on my external hard drive for my iTunes library? I even tried reloading it onto my PowerBook hard drive and importing from there, and it didn't work... Any help would be fantastic.

if your main library is on your external, then when not connected, you wont have access to it.
so first decide, where do you want to keep the files.
E.g. In my case, I keep my files on "C:\iTunes Music".
I have a backup on external "Z:\iTunes Backup". If I format my laptop, this is how I restore everything.
Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced.
The iTunes music folder in selects as "C:\iTunes Music"
I have checked Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized, and also Copy Files to iTunes Music folder when adding to ibrary". Click OK to save and close preferences.
My iTunes list is now empty. I go to file, and select "Add Folder to Library". From that window, I select "Z:\iTunes Backup". iTunes then copies everything from the backup to "C:\iTunes Music". For me, backup is backup, I dont need it to play music.
Now decide this. If you do not want to keep music on C:, but want to only connect the external to update music on your ipod, do this:
In preferences, set iTunes Music folder as "Z:\iTunes Backup", and uncheck Copy files to iTunes Music folder, since they are already there. Then in files, select Add folder to library again to build and update the list.

This will be pretty complicated for you if you cant even eject the DVD drive.
Please do this 1 step at a time.
1) HOLD DOWN the mouse clicky button immediately after starting the computer , when you hear the sound, and hold the mouse button until the DVD drive ejects. Hold down the mouse button.... it WILL eject the drive. If not, the computer is very broken, or the dvd drives motor is broken, or the door is super-glued shut, or your mouse is broken, or your hand is broken.

Shut down the Mac, then power it up, and before the screen lights up, quickly hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys, until the Mac has chimed twice more after the powerup chime. Then, before the screen lights up, hold down Command-Option-O-F until the Open Firmware screen appears. Then enter these lines, pressing Return after each one:

I had a hard-drive failure after upgrading to Yosemite. I managed to get the drive backed-up, but not in time machine. I have been restoring things piecemeal. One thing I need to figure out is how to import my old mailboxes. Where are they typically stored in Yosemite? What are the critical files to copy to where in order to get my Mail running with all of my old emails/boxes?

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library.

What backup software are you using? Assuming TimeMachine then in the TM preferences ==> options make sure the EHD is not in the excluded list

Do you have any OSX disks?
It won't boot from the new hard drive yet because there is no OS installed.
You need to use an OSX disk, put in your mac, then when turn on, hold down the C key (to boot from the CD).
Hold it down for a long time until you hear it noisily reading from the CD drive. Once OSX starts up (from CD) you should go to Disk utility and you will need to format your new hard drive.
Once formatted, you can then install OSX.
Everything is done from the OSX install disk.
If you don't have one, you can buy a retail copy from Apple (not Snow Leopard), or from Ebay. Make sure it is a retail copy, not disks that came with a Mac as they only work with the exact model of Mac it came with.
