What media was it recorded on? If it's a VHS tape, look into a "capture card" like the Dazzle series. If you recorded on DVD, use Handbrake or a similar program to compress it into an mpeg4 or other video file compatible with iTunes.

Ask the store for a local Macintosh Users Group / Club... maybe someone there can help you. You might check pawn shops in the area for a machine that has a full set of disks. Apple will sell/mail you a set. I don't know of anyplace to legitimately download them... For what its worth any commercial (e.g. full retail version) install of OS X on disk should work for your machine.

How do I get my DVD backed up music onto a new computer?

I feel really silly but I'm having problems. I just backed up my library to DVDs. The computer said that everything was backed up(it said burn complete) but I'm paranoid lol and I wanted to make sure. I stuck the disc in and nothing happened. I mean the computer "knew" that there was a disc in there but no list of songs or anything popped up. Can I not double check to make sure my library actually is on there like it said? Also when I switch to a new computer how do I get the backed up DVD into my itunes library? Do I have to click on something? When I backed up before with CDs it let me check to make sure everything was there AND it had an automatic import CD to library option. I'm so confused I need help.

When you open your iTunes on your new computer, you'll put your DVD in and it should be recognized as a backup. It should ask you if you want to restore from the disc.
This is directly from the iTunes "Help" documents:
To restore backed-up files:
Insert a backup disc.
A dialog appears, asking if you want to restore. To replace files in your iTunes library with files from the disc, select “Overwrite existing files.”
Click Restore and follow the onscreen prompts.

How do I get the DVD menu to come on when the disc is inserted.

Each time I've burned a DVD with iDVD, instead of the menu coming up when the disc is inserted in the DVD player, the movie begins playing automatically. It should bring up the menu first. I have the chapter marker set at the beginning of the movie and when you go to the menu and select the start button it will go to the start of the movie. Am I missing something? How do I get it so that the movie does not start playing automatically?

• Make's a One Step DVD or a Magical DVD - I never do - I select the top one options.
as these ways will end up Your Movie in the Auto-Start box in iDVD (turn on box-view under the Menu window)
• Move it from here to the next box to the Right
THEN
File to Save as a DiskImage - and test this to play OK (DVD-Player tool)
then burn this via Disk Util tool
And this Disk should start with Menu and let You select Movie or Sceen Selection.

This should help. Rather than using DV which iMovie doesn't handle well for no earthly reason, you should substitute the Apple Intermediate Codec, which may give you better results.
DVDs are very heavily compressed standard definition media, so converting it will not make it any better.

If it's a commercial DVD, you have to first break the CSS encryption, which is illegal in many countries so against the forum rules for anyone to tell you how to do here.

I purchased a program called the Cucosoft DVd to iPod converter. It was 29.95 (I think) and it's great. You pop in your DVD, open the program, open the DVD file and then choose what you want on your iPod (you may not want all the special features, commentaries, trailers, etc, so you can just select the movir itself) and then click 'convert' and let it do the work. Once it's done it asks if you want to open iTunes to load the movie. You then click file>add file to library and it takes you right to where the movie is stored. You load it on itunes (takes about 3 minutes and you don't have to convert it again) and you're set,. Then sync as you normally would. I have 10 full length movies, a bunch of music videos and about 900 songs and I've only used about 35% of the 60g. Hope this is helpful

How do I get the dvd blank tape out of the computer

I have successfully copied onto a dvd from my camera using Idvd08 One step. I did about four dvd's ok. Then, when I opened the idvd and chose "one step" and put in the blank dvd, it would keep showing on the screen the directions , when I chose "ok" it then went back to the opening icon where I would choose "one step". repeatedly. and the blank dvd is stuck in the computer. I tried holding down F!2 but that didn't work to eject the dvd. I have about 10 more movies to put onto a dvd from my camera. They are short about 10 minutes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I did get the dvd out of the computer. I finally found a direction that worked. I still cannot get the idvd to record from the camera using 'one step'. thanks for any suggestions.
