How do I get Illustrator to save out flat PDF/X-1a:2001 files again?

Suddenly when I save out a PDF/X-1a:2001 Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) it remains layered and keeps fonts editable. It no longer flattens the file. No other Acrobat version that I select flattens a file either. I'm on a PC with Illustrator CC 2014. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Follow up. Previous to last week, when I saved or exported with the PDF/X-1a:2001 Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) preset, it saved as a nice press-ready file I could submit to print vendors -- small and non-editable: fonts outlined, images compressed, the whole deal. (It was a printer who recommended the process.) When saving in this format the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" is grayed out. It's not an option. My understanding was that, by nature, a PDF/X-1a:2001 Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) file is not editable. When I reopened the PDFs in Illustrator, they weren't editable. Graphics/text were one big... piece.
After >3.5 hours of Adobe Support yesterday renaming AppData files, uninstalling Illustrator, reinstalling, testing PDF formats, etc. -- the Adobe team concluded that saving in this preset PDF format remains editable when the file is reopened in Illustrator. Text will remain live. (Bless both Support techs for working on this. I hope the rest of their day went better!)
It is unlikely that I am the sole Illustrator user able to accomplish something that today is impossible. Even PDFs I'd saved two years ago (put "uneditible" in their file names), when opened in Illustrator CC, now have live text. This leads me to think that something on Adobe's back-end programming changed.
Yes, there are multiple ways to output high resolution files; and yes, not everyone prefers to do so in Illustrator. But I do. I love that I can illustrate and lay out in one place. I'll still output files, but do so differently. I'm moving on. Still, I am curious.

Hello fellow illustrators! When I open Illustrator, and want to search through previous drawings, I can't see a preview, or thumbnail, only the pink flower? Do you have this problem? I typically just save a PDF with AI compatibility. The PDF is slightly larger, but fully compatible with AI and easy to share for proofing, etc.

How can I get 300 dpi tifs out of webex stills & then worked on in adobe illustrator?
I have been trying to convert images created in webex and transferred to illustrator into 300 dpi tifs. They download as ucf's when generated on white board. Or I have to upload files from other webex participants coming in at 72 dpi, converting them to something bigger in photoshop to paint in before taking them back into the webex session as a doc that then gets worked on further during the session. Later they go into illustrator for some more work with vectors. That's fine for the web but now a publisher wants them as 300 dpi tifs and I can only get things back & forth as 72 dpi pdf's. If I try to bump them up with a resample, they come out teensy weensy. What am I missing and is there any way to make them look good?

What I need is to be able to transfer the images between formats without degradation of the resolution and find ways to sharpen what I have even if I can't increase pixels. If the original I'm delivered is a 96 dpi power point slide, for example, that's what I have to work with, I'm using Illustrator to compensate with vectors. But then I still need to get it back to a 300 dpi tiff to meet the specs.

Enable the permission and check the issue status.
a. Right click on the folder and click Properties.
b. Click Security Tab, click Edit under Group or User Names and click Add.
c. Type “Everyone” and click check names.
d. Click Ok.
e. Click Full Control under Permissions for everyone.
f. Click Apply and click Ok.
g. Click Ok.
Templates are to be saved in the following location:
System folder (username:) \ App Data \ Roaming \ Adobe \ Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings \ en_GB \ New Document Profiles
this is using CS5 on Windows 8

For the Illustrator SDK, Google is your friend: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/illustrator/sdk/
As for VB.Net, I'm afraid you're out of luck. The SDK is all C++ and designed to be platform independent, apart from resources (I write plugins for the Mac). However, there are template projects for VC2005 included in the SDK, just follow the instructions in the accompanying documentation on how to install it.

i purchased extra room on my iCloud and turned on photo stream on my devices. i did this so my photos would be stored on the cloud because i always run out of storage on my phone. firstly, how do i get pictures to start automatically saving into the photo stream? and how do i get photos to save directly into the cloud and not just on my device? I have my cloud connected between my macbook, ipad and iphone. i have mountain lion on my macbook, my ipad was just purchased last week so should be up to date, and have downloaded and installed the most up to date software on my phone.

Photos do not take up space on your iCloud storage. Photo Stream is seperate from iCloud storage.
Does Photo Stream use my iCloud storage?
No. Photos uploaded to My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams do not count against your iCloud storage.

I would recommend turning on Photo Stream, outlined in the same FAQ:

When all that is setup, you can delete newer photos as you take them or periodically from the Camera Roll to free up space.

I changed a password to a frequesntly used site. Firefox has not asked me if I want to save this new password and I have to keep changing the saved one to the correct one. How do I get it to save the new password?

I have websites I use for my employer that require a password. The employer requires these be changed periodically. Always before, if I changed the password, about the second or third time I tried to log in and changed the saved password to the correct one, Firefox would ask if I wanted to save the new password. It is not doing this now. How can I get it to save a new password? It keeps putting in the old one.

Whether you can redownload music depends upon what country that you in. If you are using your computer's iTunes then does music show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (on your phone you might be able to redownload media via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app) ? If music shows there, but not that album, then check to see if it's hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If you aren't in a country when you can redownload music and it's still on your phone then you should be able to copy it over from the phone via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.

How do I get a stuck cd out of my drive

How do I get a stuck CD out of my drive on my macbook. It shows up when I first start my computer up. I press eject and it makes some sounds, but doesn't eject. The CD then is gone from my desktop. I have to re-start my computer to see the CD and try again to eject.

Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

Last night I upgraded my iPhone 4S to ios 7, and this morning when I went to use it I was stuck in Recovery Mode - How do I get my iPhone 4S out of it w/o restoring? I have photos, contacts, etc Iwant to get off the phone. I tried Tiny Umbrella and RecBoot but no dice. I was not able to get any help from the Apple tech on the phone. They only suggestions offered were to check to see if iPhoto or the Finder would show my device so I could copy over my photos.

That error usually means that your computer antivirus is blocking the update.
It can also mean that your phone was jailbroken, or your computer was used to jailbreak some iOS device in the past.
