How do I get iMac to recognize my external HD containin my photos from PC?

Hi. I have a brand new iMac and want to move my archived photos which I have saved onto an external HD from my old PC. When I plug the USB cable into the iMac, the external HD is not recognized. What do I need to do to get my photos off the HD and into the iPhoto.

My understanding is that if your drive(s) was formatted with NTFS OS X will not recognise the drive.
Networking the PC and the MAC would be a go.
Failing that, I think that the best (if a bit painful) way would be to find a PC, dump all the pics onto the PC, reformat the discs in FAT32, put the pics back and then connect to your Mac.
You could also consider installing windows on your Mac.

You just import them to iTunes, or you import them to iTunes directly from the CD. But, it you had imported them to the computer before you had iTunes, then you go to edit, add file to library, or add folder to library, however you have the music set up.

iMAC running OSX 10.6.8 recognizes external HD Camera hardware, but iMovie fails to recognize the device. I can copy files "manually" using Finder, but cannot import them directly into iMovie. How can I get iMovie to recognize the camera? I have already re-booted all devices and tried multiple USB ports. In all cases the OS recognizes the camera, but iMovie does not.

OK This camcorder is a fine camcorder. I have an earlier model of a similar camcorder from Panasonic. However, this newer model has one problem. It is not compatible with iMovie if you shoot at the highest quality mode, (which is 60P or 50P - which might be called 28MBPS mode). If you shoot 30P or 30i (even 60i) it will import to iMovie. Also, iMovie can handle 1280x720P60 and P50.
It will definitely work on iMovie 11. It should probably work on iMovie 09. I doubt this camera will be recognized at all on iMovie 08, but it is worth a try. To see which iMovie you have, click iMovie/About and check the version. 9.04 would be iMovie 11. (9.08 is the current version, but it will not run on OSX 10.6.8). 8.06 would be iMovie 09. 7.1.4 would be iMovie 08.
OK So how to work around this limitation?
1) If you have Final Cut Pro X ($300) or can justify buying it, it will import 60P and 50P from this camera. However, if this seems a little pricey to you, keep reading.
2) If you set your camera to record in 1080P30 and shoot a short clip, then iMovie should see the camera. Then I would suggest using iMovie import screen to create a CAMERA ARCHIVE of your camera. This will copy to your Mac the entire contents of the video files on your camera. You will need them later. I am assuming you have some valuable footage on the camera that you would like to have.
3) Going forward, the simplest thing is to shoot in 1920x1080P30 and use iMovie normally. The biggest advantage of P60 or P50 is when you need really high quality slow motion effects. In other words, after you edit your movie, everything is converted to P30 or P25 anyway.
4) If you want to retrieve the 1080P50 or 1080P60 clips that you have shot, then there are a couple of apps you can buy to convert them to a form that iMovie can edit. Two such apps are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. There are also various free apps, but I cannot vouch for them. Do a search on google and you may find some that work.

When I insert a CD I can see the drive and the .wav files in Finder, yet I can't access the music CD from iTunes. If it's a true audio CD, then the files on the disk cannot be WAV. If they're WAV on the disk, it's not a standard audio CD. Standard audio disks are PCM which will appear as AIFF when viewed in Finder on a Mac. I'm a bit suspicious that there's something else amiss with your system, but right now I can't guess quite what. Perhaps someone else will have an idea.

Well sometimes it won't boot, but the drive is fine.
You'll have to run through these steps and depending what occurs (or doesn't) will give you a clue, if you need to replace the drive and restore from the TM drive.

Was the media solely on the external library? If so, it is likely that iTunes was started at some point with the external drive unaccessible. Simply point iTunes to the correct library location. I'm re-installing iTunes for Windows 7 (64-bit) due to a bug that occured with the iOS7 update. The Genius Bar recommended that I uninstall and re-install iTunes from scratch. All of my music is located on a WD external hard drive that's connected wirelessly to my PC. I didn't have this problem until the iOS update for iphone 5, v.7.0.

How do I get Flash to recognize my TextInput from class?

Hi -
I'm trying to write a class for a standard input form. I've
got a movieclip in the library and have linked it to this class.
(class included below.)
This movieclip contains several text inputs which I have
declared in my class file. I can get their ._x and ._y values, but
I can't assign to the .text value of the TextInput. Nor can I read
this value when I set it in the parameters tab in flash. It just
comes up as undefined.
It's as though flash does not recognize the instance that was
placed on the stage in the authoring environement as a TextInput. I
can trace out the instance, but Flash does not treat it as a
TextInput because I can not assign a string to the .text property.
If I instantiate the TextInput in my class file and then
position it on the stage - I can assign to it. But this is not as
practical because I can not lay things out visually in Flash. How
do I get Flash to recognize my TextInput instance on the stage from
a class file?

Since you are putting the assignment and trace statements in
the Constructor function, it is possible that the textInput boxes
have not all yet loaded. So, when you are trying to assign values
to them, they are not present on the stage.
Put your code in an onLoad function. That way you can insure
that all components have loaded before you assign values to them.
The onLoad function will be called when the "onLoad" event is
triggered after all of your movieclip has loaded.

Thanks for the Time Machine Troubleshooting link. Apparently things have changed since 10.7.0. Backups.backupdb doesn’t exist. Path now is: Time Capsule/Data/Daru’s iMac.sparsebundle. So I did Terminal (I usually avoid Terminal) using the instruction in B6. It does not appear to be working. It went through looking for backup, preparing backup, and is now stopping backup, and the TMBackup has disappeared from the sidebar.
Well, just now Time Machine progressed to preparing backup again; the Tiime Machine Backups appeared in sidebar, and with it Backups.backupdb/Daru’s iMac/2012-04-21-112939.inProgress. So it does exist... I’ll let it run, see what happens... But that is a strange date. Today is 28.
I’ll let you know the outcome.
Oops. Just ended! Real time report: “Backup too large for disk...“ So it is not recognizing the old backup. I’ll look at those instructions again, see if I can do the Terminal thing with the backup running. I doubt I can damage anything except the existing baackup which I'll lose anywy if I can’t achieve recognition.

First of all, I think the first time you sync an iPod that's formatted for Windows on a Mac, the sync process reformats it for Mac. You can check what it is now by looking for the iPod with Disk Utility. If it's Mac OS Extended, it's formatted for Mac already.
Also, there is no current iPod updater app these days. iTunes handles it through the Restore button. If you are not able to use the latest iTunes because of your Mac, I can understand. The latest version of iTunes should run with 10.3.9 or later, if the hardware can handle it.
You said the battery was low so let it recharge for a while.
You should also reset the iPod. It's part of the 5Rs, which you should go through as the starting point for iPod trouble-shooting.

Everywhere online it says I need to add the fonts to InDesign's font file, but since I'm working out of the Creative Cloud, I don't have that option. ID sees fonts installed on your computer and contained in a Document Fonts folder in the same folder as the document, if one exists.
I don't really understand what you are saying about fonts you have installed not showing up. And cloud makes no difference -- all the applications and support files are installed on your hard drive.
