Yes iPhone clips should be fine. To transfer, there should be a share option and under there idvd. Or you could simply export the video and then import into the other.

you can update from iMovie versions 7, 8 and 9, but iMovie HD is iMovie 6.
Maybe you can update in two steps, first from iMovie 6 to iMovie 7, 8 or 9 then to iMovie 10.

Maybe try one of the WiFi transfer Apps? There are several to choose from. I use Photosynch quite often to send photos and videos between my computer(s), my iPhone, and iPad.

How do I get imovie to use Photoshop Elements 12 as external editor? I am making a movie slide show with music from my Caribbean vacation photos and adding text captions to photos in PS Elements 12. I can also add some effects to photos like edge blur although I like iphotos effects better but iphoto doesn't seem to do text. You simply need to create your stills with Photoshop Elements, save them in a suitable format (.jpg, .png, .tiff are all acceptable) then drag and drop them into your iMovie timeline. You don't have to use iPhoto.

I have same problem. I could only see a fraction of my project photos if I browse the Aperture lbrary. It is the same problem when I sync the aperture photos to my iPhone or iPad. I still cannot solve it but I know a way to go around it for your iMovie to see the pictures so that you can work on your iMovie.
Here is the work around:
Export the photos from your album to your hard disk and re-import into your iPhoto. Now you should be able to see those photos that you want to work on in iMovie when you browse your iPhot library.

Unfortunately, as recommended by the lady from CA, as long as the Mac is still associated with the Apple ID of the original owner, you can't even buy those iLife apps with that Mac. You will always get the alert to download them with the original owner's Apple ID.
As suggested by the chavo from España, you need the original owner to contact Apple Care* and request that the OS and the iLife apps be disassociated from his Apple ID. Then you should be free to OS X Recovery to resinstall the most recent version of OS X that shipped with the Mac and install the iLife apps. Afterward, before using any of the iLife apps you need to open the Mac App Store (MAS) to the Purchases pane and Accept these apps into your MAS account's Apple ID. If you use any of the iLife apps before you have accepted them into your account, as per the app's Terms of Use, they all become one-trick-ponies that can not be downloaded onto another Mac or updated.

Every working drive, Internal or External, should produce an Icon on your Desktop. If you cannot see those, click on the Desktop (to get Finder) and choose Preferences off the Finder Menu. The general pane has checkboxes for "Show these items on the Desktop:"
Double click the Icon for your External Drive to open it. Open the folders on it until you find the Items you want to copy. Drag them to the Icon of your Internal Drive, or open the folder where you want them to land and drop them in there.
A drive that does not appear on the desktop after you have asked it to may be damaged. But it would be smart to do a Restart to see if it is recognized again at next Startup.

Ah... You didn't say it was an iMovie 2 project. iMovie project is different from iMovie HD.
I want to store the image file from the dvd's off site as I don't have the space to archive the projects - it seems I can't do that as it copies over to the server but shows up as a 4kb file - any suggestions how I can do this?
I might be wrong (since I don't have iMovie 2), I assume iMovie 2 has the similar QT "reference" movie as the iMovie HD. This "reference" movie is not a "self-contained" (a QT term) movie, i.e. it only has instructions of the makeup of the "real" movies. You cannot use it to archive. If you want to offload your movie from your computer, you should copy the entire iMovie 2 project folder to an external archive.

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

I saved it in itunes.
My computer crashed so the project does not appear in imovie anymore.

Did you have backups of your data when it crashed? If you had Time Machine running, or if you were using a backup app like SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner, you would just restore the Movies/iMovie Projects folder and the Movies/iMovie Events folder to their original state. If you were using a cloud-based backup like CrashPlan, you can restore from there.

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.
