How do I get iphoto to work on my MacBook?

For sometime now iphoto has been opening and then crashing.  It just will not work.  After reading though some posts of others having this problem I decided to see if it was a app issue.  I deleted and resinstalled from my ilife '11 disk.  I tried the app after the un/reinstall process the app would not start at all.
What can I do get this to work?
I got the following error message:

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see in the iPhoto window when iPhoto opens?
where are you trying to download from?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?

  • How do I get iPhoto to work again?

It has crashed a couple of times.  I lost my photos.  I had to rebuild from my carbonite account.  But I can't manipulate my photos without I photo.  It tells me that my I photo library is outdated and needs to be upgraded.  But when I attempt to upgrade it does not work.  Any suggestions?

If your iPhoto icon is blue, you probably have iPhoto 9.5.1 and your current system is MacOS 10.9.x.
    Does it look like this?
Try this fix posted by Terence Devlin:
Re: I have an aperture file I can't. When I try it say to open in Iphoto to update. When I try to open in iPhoto won't open because it say the file is open in 'null'. It say I need to close null. What is null? and how do I close it ?
User Elijahg figured this one out
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Note the file there called iPhotoLock.data  - Delete it.
Then inside the Database folder find another folder called apdb
Note file there called lockfile.pid - Delete it.
    Make no other changes
    Now try launch iPhoto.
    -- Léonie
Aand if that does not help, delete these lockfiles:
Delete the following two preference files from your Home/Library/Preferences folder:
    com.apple.iApps.plist
    com.apple.iApps.lockfile

  • How can i get iPhoto to work? It locks up after I launch it every time single time.t

iPhoto has gone nuts!! it will not work and keeps locking up. Open the program and within a few seconds i get the spinning wheel of death. i have tried the basic fixes, the ones you get with you hold down command and options at launch, like rebuild library ect.
What can i do?? I have several thousand photos here and i do have a time machine backup.

Correct, the plists don't work in Mavericks the way they used to. Good news is, we've isolated it to that specific library. You said you already went through the rebuilds, lets try to do them again, but one at a time in a specific order.
    1) Repair Permissions
    2) Repair Database
    3) Rebuild Database
If that still doesn't work, try running these steps from TS4040:
    1) Run Software Update and install all updates (including the OS X Lion v10.7.4 Update, or later) until it reports "Your Software is Up To Date."
    2) Open the Get Info inspector for the account's Home folder:
In Finder, select Go > Home or press Shift Command H (⇧⌘H).
In Finder, select File > Get Info or press Command I (⌘I).
    3) If needed, click the disclosure triangle to expand the "Sharing & Permissions:" section of the Get Info window.
    4) If needed, click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the Get Info window.
When prompted, enter an admin user name and password, then click OK.
    5) From the Action menu (the cogwheel) at the bottom of the Get Info window, choose "Apply to enclosed items…"
    6) Click OK in the confirmation sheet.
    7) Wait for the process to complete.
If we're not able to access the library afterwards, I have a solution that should work, but would remove any albums, books, etc... etc... etc... that you had created in iPhoto and leave you with just your photos and events, so I'm trying to avoid that as much as possible. Let me know what happens.
    Regards,
    Gnomish8

  • How can I get iphoto to work again in my main admin account?

iphoto does not work in my main account. it works in other accounts but it just hangs when launched on my admin account. I have tried rebuild and deleted com.apple.iphoto.plist still no luck. it is iphoto 11
    thanks

Do not import one iPhoto library into another iPhoto library - the correct thing is to drag a working iPhoto library to the pictures folder (default location) and launch iPhoto - it will open and convert the library as needed
Not sure what your comment about dragging an iPhoto library on means but if  you dragged it onto the iPhoto icon or the iphoto window you are importing and will have to let it finish and then start over
As noted back please post back for more information

  • How can I get Iphoto back working?

updates messed up my iphoto. I guess that is what happened as I didn't do anything to cause it. It happened right after I did an update around the middle of May this year. It just keeps crashing. I think I have iphoto 08 and version 8.1.2. I have tried reinstalling the bundle package on disc that came with the imac but still crashes. What is the solution? I have read many forums and browsed the internet trying to find some kind of solution. I have even thought of buying the Ilife disc on Ebay for that version. Please I have spent way to much time.  I brought this imac in 2009 I don't have an ilife disc just the bundle package disc that came with the imac. It didn't seem to work when I reinstalled it. Please advise. This imac is my first one. These are harder to troubleshoot then the PCs. Thanks for any help you can give.

Then it tells me to download iPhoto upgrader to be used with versions of iPhoto 7 or earlier???
My version of iPhoto is 9.6.  Im not supposed to have to download the helper...but I can't figure this out

What version Did you have? If you HAD iphoto '08 version 7.x.x or earlier then you must backup your iPhoto library and down and RUN the iPhoto library upgrade (it will be installed in the utilities folder in the Applications folder) and then launch iPhoto 9.6

  • How do you get FaceTime to work on my MacBook Air?

It STILL doesn't work! My mom even used her Apple I.D that she uses for her FaceTime and that didn't even work. What am I supposed to do??

  • How to get Iphoto to work again after Dropbox screwed it up?

I had never used Dropbox and opened an account primarily as a backup for photo storage.  I moved my Iphoto library to the Dropbox folder. After a week of Dropbox churning tens of thousands of “files” without really uploading, I realized something was wrong and have since learned there is some disconnect in how Dropbox handles Iphoto.  Something about symlinks, but I don’t need to know.
That’s not my question. I moved my Iphoto library back to Applications.  All the photos appear still to be there, but I’ve lost functionality.   I can’t advance from photo to photo within an “event,” or edit photos through Iphoto.  The link to my external editor (PS Elements 10) also doesn’t work any more.  I can’t send an individual photo to PS, or open a photo from the Iphoto library in PS.
Screw Dropbox, I won’t try to use it again.  But how do I get Iphoto to work again like it used to?  It seems like Iphoto has somehow been de-linked from the Iphoto library.
    Thanks,
    Case

I dragged and dropped the Iphoto library to the pictures folder and now the library appears in BOTH pictures and applications. (The Iphoto library icon in the Pictures folder has the little curved arrow indicating a link.)   Should I have copied and pasted?
When I open Iphoto, it goes to one of the recent pictures in the library and the regular menu appears on the left (events, etc.).  But I can't advance to different pictures within in the folder.  I hit "edit" and none of the editing functions come up.  I right-click on the photo to bring up the usual options like edit in external editor and nothing happens.  As I said in my first e-mail, it links but has no functionality.
You say to do a restore.  I've been backing up my Mac with My Book Studio and Time Machine, but never tried to restore from the My Book.  The last backup was a month or so ago.  Is that the kind of restore you're talking about?  Can I just restore Iphoto (and iphoto library?) without messing with everything else?
    Thanks for your help.

The Mac computer uses the OS X Platform and iDevices use the iOS Platform... Applications for one will not run on the Other. Each require their own compatible version.
